Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

09 December

Gunmen ambushed a 6 vehicle convoy in the vicinity of BULABULIN Village, BORNO State killing 2 soldiers

10 December

Gunmen ambushed a military convoy in the vicinity of SANDIYA, KONDUGA LGA on the border of KONDUGA and DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State, killing 6 friendly and wounding several others, several pieces of equipment were captured

Gunmen ambushed a military convoy with small arms, IEDs and crew served weapons in between NYENERI and FALAWANI Villages in the vicinity of DAMBOA, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State, killing 4 soldiers and wounding 12

11 December

An explosion at the entrance to IDP Camp 4 in PULKA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State around 11.00am killing a female and 3 other people and wounding 7. The military is unclear whether the explosion was caused by a mortar round or a suspected female PBIED

The Op Lafiya Dole Air Component Commander has been replaced with a Commander Air Task Force Air Vice Marshall Idi LUBO, as part of the reorganisation 3 Division Air Liaison Officers (DALO) have been appointed as well as an Air Liaison Officer to the Theatre Command

Social media reports state that gunmen accused 2 elderly men of being spies in the vicinity of MOLOTA, BORNO STATE and murdered them with bladed weapons. They also abducted 5 girls and 2 boys

2 x female PBIEDS attempted to infiltrate a crowded public space in the evening in PULKA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State, 1 was shot and killed, whilst the other escaped to a residential area where she detonated killing herself and 2 other people and wounding several others

A military vehicle on a friendly patrol on MAIDUGURI- DAMBOA Road detonated an IED killing 2 soldiers

12 December

The NAF commenced Op Ruwan Wata 3 in Northern BORNO and the SAMBISA Forest area, ISR having previously identified KOLARAM, 37km east of MONGUNO to be an active enemy launch point, 2 x NAF Attack helicopters conducted a pre dawn raid followed by 4 x Fighter Ground Attack (FGA) aircraft. Several structures were destroyed and burnt. In a follow up air strike an NAF helicopter and FGA struck a settlement to the south east of KOLARAM destroying several structures. Enemy were detected retreating north to JUBILARAM, 38km north east of MONGUNO, 4 x NAF FGA conducted air strikes on the settlement

13 December

Gunmen mounted in 8 x pick up trucks and several motorcycles attacked friendly forces in MAINOK, KAGA LGA, BORNO State around 6.00pm, approaching via the bush from the direction of BUNI YADI, GUJBA LGA, YOBE State. They were defeated after an hour long firefight and friendly reinforcements arrived, losing 14 enemy killed and 2 x pick up trucks captured., as they were pursued to ZARI Village, MOBBAR LGA. Two civilians were injured. Media reports state that the attackers crossed several main roads but did not molest civilians, media reports also claim that 6 soldiers were killed and 9 wounded

UNHCR began distributing ID cards to IDPs in BORNO State beginning the process in DALORI Camp

14 December

The NPF is to create new Area Commands in MONGUNO, BENISHEIKH and UBA in BORNO State increasing the number to 6. New Divisional offices are to be opened up in LG Headquarters

State Governors voted to release $1bn from the Excess Crude Account to fund the war against Boko Haram

The NPF has arrested a suspected Boko Haram commander Ibrahim DIYE (aka ROMEO) in BORNO State around 2.00pm.

15 December

Brigadier General Gbenga Olusegun ADESINA presiding over a General Courts Martial sitting in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State sentenced a Lance Corporal John GODWIN to Death for the murder of 5 rescued hostages in YAMTEKE, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State. Sergeant Innocent OTOTO was given a life sentence for manslaughter for the torture and murder of a 13 year old boy he claimed had stolen his phone in ZAMANBARI District. Lance Corporal OSAGE and Private ONWE were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for manslaughter and illegal possession of firearms.

The Army stated that troops deployed on Op Lafiya Dole had been on the offensive for the past 2 weeks in the Lake Chad Islands with coordinated air and artillery support, killing several insurgents and capturing 167. In the past 2 months troops had also conducted long range patrols and ambushes in and around suspected enemy hideouts in SAADA and JUWEI in Northern BORNO State, detaining 53 suspected enemy as well as taking the surrender of 15 suspected enemy who had wearied of the conflict

16 December

Gunmen ambushed a UN World Food Programme Convoy heading to LOGOMANI in the vicinity of MUSUNI Village on the DIKWA-NGALA Trans Sahara Highway, 35 km south west of NGALA, NGALA LGA, BORNO State killing 4 drivers and 2 others, abducting 3 and stealing several trucks. 6 enemy were killed and 3 x AK 47, 3 x locally improvised weapons, 4 x magazines and a 7.62mm belt were captured

Situation North West (Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States)

14 December

Youth Leader and aide to Senator Shehu SANI, Bashir AHMED who was abducted in TUDUN WADA, KADUNA, KADUNA State on Friday 8 December was freed in KADUNA State. It is unclear if a ransom was paid for his release

NDLEA JIGAWA State Command announced that they had arrested 6 suspected drug dealers and seized 1,000.64Kg of various drugs between 9 and 11 December. 2 suspects were arrested on KANO- GUMEL Road with cannabis and 4 in GURI, DUTSE and HADEJIA LGAs with 900g of Tramadol

16 December

Several hundred youths known as ‘yan Shara’ rampaged along KATURU Road,  BADARAWA District, KADUNA, KADUNA State attacking traders and peaceful civilians with knives and clubs and robbing them. 11 suspects were arrested.

Situation North Centre (Abuja FCT, Bauchi, Benue, Gombe, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Taraba States)

10 December

Up to 10 Gunmen abducted 2 people from ZAZZAGA Village, MUNYA LGA, shooting one person who tried to stop them and 2 girls from MASUKU Village, SHIRORO LGA, NIGER State

5 abductees consisting of former Minister of Sports and current PLATEAU State PDP Chairman Damishi SANGO, his son and 3 others were released.

11 December

A farmer killed a Fulani herdsman he accused of destroying his crops in MAI ZAGGA Village, BAGUDO LGA, KEBBI State. The State Governor BAGUDU intervened to stop a reprisal, paying the slain man’s family compensation

12 December

IMN members began a 2 day memorial in ABUJA, FCT for members that were killed during the ZARIA Incident in 2015

The NIGER State Police Command stated it had rescued 2 abducted girls in MUSUKU Village, SHIRORO LGA

Gunmen attacked a house on a farm belonging to the EFCC Chairman Ibrahim MAGU in KARSHI, ABUJA, FCT around 10.00pm after overpowering and detaining a policeman on guard and a civilian and beating them. The policeman subsequently died of his injuries. The attackers stole 5 cattle and some sheep

Gunmen attacked the residence of an official of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) in KARU LGA, NASARAWA State who had allegedly informed the Police about the activities of a criminal gang operating in KEFFI and KARU LGA, in the vicinity of the KEFFI-KARU-ABUJA axis, abducting and murdering him

14 December

Elements of the NPF attempted to dislodge illegal miners in MAYO SINE, MAMBILLA, SARDAUNA LGA, TARABA State who were occupying a concession of a mining company following a 48 hour eviction notice. The miners refused to disperse and attacked the police who opened fire killing up to 10.

15 December

The NPF in BENUE State arrested 35 suspected members of the Black Axe Confraternity. 26 of whom were detained whilst travelling from OGBADIGBO to MAKURDI and 9 who were detained in LESSEL, USHONGO LGA. Apparently the intent was to create havoc in the NORTH BANK Area in MAKURDI

16 December

A clash in OGOBIA Village, UGBOJU District, OTURKPO LGA, BENUE State resulted in 4 people killed. The origins of the violence appear to be an apparent retaliation for an incident in August 2017 between two brothers who are members of different political parties that resulted in 4 deaths

11 December

A PBIED detonated in the Abdoulaye Mosque in KERAWA, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region around 5.45am killing themselves and 1 other person

A truck driver was abducted on Route National 1 in the vicinity of GOULMA between DABANGA and TILDE, MAYO SAVA Department

12 December

A PBIED detonated around 7.00pm in MATAKAYA, AMCHIDE Arrondissement, MAYO SAVA Department killing themselves and one other

13 December

The UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) stated that seizures of the opioid Tramadol have increased from 300Kg in 2013 to 3 tonnes a year in the Lake CHAD Basin area.

14 December

Gunmen abducted a farmer in TOLKOMARI, MAYO SAVA Department
