Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

04 December

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked LAWARU and DONG Villages, DEMSA LGA, ADAMAWA State around 5.00am, killing several people and burning both down. The attackers then moved to KIKAN, NUMAN LGA

Troops patrolling in the vicinity of MIYANTO DAREL, BAMA LGA, BORNO State engaged suspected enemy forces killing 5, recovering weapons, machetes, knives and N5,000.00

The BORNO State Governor stated that 500 vigilantes would b recruited to enhance security in BIU, BIU LGA

05 December

The NAF has deployed ISR platforms, an Alphajet and EC 135 to ADAMAWA State for operations in NUMAN and DEMSA LGAs

The IMN has filed a suit in the Federal High Court against the KADUNA State Governor Mallam Nasir EL RUFAI, the State Attorney General, Commissioner for Justice, Commissioner of Police, DSS Director General, Inspector General of Police and Chief of Army Staff, stating that the order banning the organisation was unconstitutional and violated the African Charter on Human Rights

Situation North Centre (Abuja FCT, Bauchi, Benue, Gombe, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Taraba States)

03 December

An allegedly intoxicated policeman shot and killed a young man in AJAOKUTA LGA, KOGI State at an APC political rally for an LG Chairmanship

Gunmen reportedly abducted 3 people along OKENE-LOKOJA Road, consisting of an APC politician and former Senator Ayo ARISE, his driver and personal assistant in KOGI State near the ONDO, KOGI, EDO and EKITI State border as he travelled to ABUJA FCT from EKITI State. The kidnappers have allegedly requested a ransom of N80m from his family

Gunmen abducted ambushed a vehicle along AKWANGA- KEFFI-ABUJA Road around 5.30pm in the vicinity of MANDARA Village, KOKONA LGA, NASARAWA State abducting several people. Ransoms of N10m have been demanded for at least one of the abductees

04 December

The NAF stated that it had activated 1 x Bell 412 helicopter and a second would be completed before the end of December 2017. 1 x Mi 35P had been reactivated to become operational in January 2018, 2 x Mi 35P had undergone test flights in RUSSIA and would be operational in NIGERIA in February 2018. Periodic Depot Maintenance of C 130 aircraft was being undertaken and the service life of NAF 913 had been extended

The NPF stated that gunmen had attacked policemen based in KUDERE Village, AKWANGA LGA, NASARAWA State near GUDI along the AKWANGA-KEFFI Highway killing 2 people. Elements of SARS, MOPOL and local vigilantes responded and are combing the forest

06 December

Gunmen ambushed a vehicle on the KADUNA-ABUJA Road, in the vicinity of KURMI JIBRIL, KAGARKO LGA/ JERE- GARKAWA, JERE LGA, KADUNA State abducting 4 people including a former Minister of sports Damishi SANGO, his driver, his son and his police orderly as he travelled from JOS to ABUJA

07 December

The kidnappers of Damishi SANGO have demanded a N100m ransom from his family

A 5 year old boy was abducted in WASE Town, WASE LGA, PLATEAU State. The kidnappers requested N20m ransom from the boys father Alhaji IBRAHIM

08 December

A suspect in the kidnap of Master IBRAHIM in WASE, was arrested by the NPF and elements of Op Safe Haven, the boys corpse was recovered from an uncompleted building

The abductors of Damishi SANGO have reduced his ransom to N40m

Up to 5 suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked OGABIFO Village, OMALA LGA near AGBENEMA, KOGI State with AK 47s after an alleged altercation with a farmer on whose land they were grazing. 10 people were killed. Armed herdsmen also grazed their cattle on a rice farm in OMI, YAGBA WEST LGA, displacing the farmers family

The NPF announced the arrest of 28 suspected armed robbers and kidnappers who operated along the KADUNA-ABUJA Road in TAFA LGA, NIGER State, in a week long operation. 5 abductees were rescued and 1 x KIA Saloon car, 1 x Mercedes Benz Saloon car, 2 x AK 47, 3 x pump action shotguns, 1 x revolver and 1 x Beretta, 1 x single barrel firearm 133 x 7.62mm (AK), 50 x shotgun cartridges, 20 x 9mm, 4 x sets of military style uniform and 3 x badges of rank (Major, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant) were recovered

Gunmen attacked a village, MUNYA LGA, NIGER State along KADUNA- SARKI PAWA Road killing 3 and abducting 10

Gunmen abducted an aide to APC Senator Shehu SANI (KADUNA) Bashir AHMED in TUDUN WADA, KASUWAN BARCI, KADUNA SOUTH LGA, KADUNA State

09 December

Herdsmen entered DUDUGURU Village, JANKWE Community, OBI LGA, NASARAWA State to allegedly recover an axe seized from a herdsman several weeks ago by farmers. The refusal of the farmers to release the axe led to a clash, in which 1 was killed and several injured

03 December

Gunmen attacked TCHEBE TCHEBE Village, MAYO MOSKOTA Arrondissement, MAYO TSANAGA Department EXTREME NORD Region, in the evening killing 2 soldiers and 2 vigilantes and abducting 10 civilians, a BIR unit, responded but lost a vehicle to an IED

The US and UK Government issued travel advisories for ABUJA FCT, BAUCHI, BORNO, GOMBE, JIGAWA, ADAMAWA and YOBE States. The threat appears linked to the festive period rather than a specific plot
