Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

21 May

The Army reports that elements of 8 TF Div have conducted operations over the past 72 hours in the vicinity of CHIKUN GUDU, TUMBUMA KARAMI and TUMBUMA BABA, BORNO State killing 13 enemy and capturing 3 x AK 47, 1 x pump action shotgun, rifle magazines, 306 x assorted rounds of ammunition and 1 x Toyota Landcruiser. 1 x Toyota Landcruiser, 2 x motorcycles, 1 x Toyota truck and 6 c bicycles were destroyed

Elements of 242 Bn detained 6 x female and 4 x male Boko Haram suspected smugglers in MONGUNO, MONGUNO LGA and NOLWODO MALGORI, BORNO State capturing household items, food stuffs and N63, 060.00 cash

The new acting 7 Div GOC Brig Gen Ibrahim YUSUF, visited 21 Bde positions in MIYATTI, DAREJAMEL, WALASA, DANGARI and FREE TOWN with Brigade Commander Brig Gen AUDU. He also visited 26 TF Bde in GWOZA and its positions in BITTA, YAMTEKE, PULKA, NGOSHE and FIRGI.

NAF ISR aircraft identified a large structure with solar panels and enemy flags in the vicinity of PARISU, SAMBISA Forest, BORNO State

22 May

The NSCDC BORNO State Command deployed 50 armed personnel to UNIMAID in reaction to the recent PBIED attacks

NAF Mi 17 and Mi 35 attack helicopters were tasked to strike the suspected enemy structure in PARISU, BDA revealed fire and casualties

24 May

3 x suspected female PBIEDs detonated in the vicinity of MAMANTI Village, MOLAI Ward, JERE LGA, BORNO State around 5.55pm. The suspects were allegedly dropped off a motorcycle along MAIDUGURI-DAMBOA Road but were sighted by vigilante who attempted to intercept them and then they detonated their devices

BORNO State Governor Kashim SHETTIMA stated 156, 453 houses in the state had been destroyed by Boko Haram.

25 May

The Navy Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP) Rear Admiral Henry BABALOLA stated that Navy patrol teams from BAGA had improved security and enhanced commercial activities in the area.

270 refugees returned from CAMEROUN to NIGERIA via the SAHUDA Border Crossing to Burnt Bricks Transit Camp, MUBI SOUTH LGA, ADAMAWA State

Gunmen ambushed vigilantes who were conveying 3 x suspected criminals to UGWOLAWO Divisional Police Station in AHI Village, OFU LGA, KOGI State killing 3 vigilantes and freeing the detainees

The trial of Mohammed USMAN (aka Khalid AL BARNAWI), Mohammed Bashir SALEH, Umar Mohammed BELO (aka ABU AZZAN), Mohammed SALISU (aka DATTI), Yakubu NUHU (AKA Bello MAISHAYI), Usman ABUBAKAR and Halima HALIRU at the Federal High Court, ABUJA, FCT on 11 counts of terrorism was adjourned until 06 June 2017 due to the absence of lead prosecution counsel Shuaibu LABARAN who was reportedly indisposed. The defence counsel opposed the motion

Tiv and Jukun youths clashed in FEEDI Market opposite the NAF Base, MAKURDI, BENUE State around 7.00pm, following a disagreement between two drunk young men of each tribe, leading to 3 killed, 5 wounded and 40 houses burnt

2 x gunmen mounted on motorcycles attacked the Eche Anee Festival in IDARE District, OKENE, OKENE LGA, KOGI State killing a masquerade and 3 of his followers

24 May

Police in KOGI State paraded 6 people in LOKOJA arrested on suspicion of kidnaping 2 people in April 2017 and armed robbery. 17 others paraded were arrested on suspicion of armed robbery, also recovered were 2 x AK 47s, 1 x Beretta 9mm pistol, 1 x locally made firearm, 27 x 7.62mm (AK), 1 x Nissan Sunny and1 x Toyota Carina

NPF in BENUE State discovered an illegal firearms fabrication facility in TSE TYUNGU in KYADO District, UKUM LGA and arrested 3 3 suspects

25 May

Suspected nomadic gunmen killed 12 people in ACKA MBAMAR Village, YONNOW Ward, LOGO LGA, BENUE State

Elements of 31 Artillery Bde raided a suspected Boko Haram cell in GIDAN MAI Village along MOKWA-TEGINA Road, MOKWA, MOKWA LGA, NIGER State. 3 suspected leaders Mustapha MUHAMMED (aka Adam BITRI), Ali SALEH and Uba MOHAMMED were arrested. Mustapha MUHAMMED with one other named BUKURA is alleged to have abducted Alhaji Shettima Ali MONGUNO in MAIDUGURI on 13 May 2013. Soldiers recovered debit cards, Voter Registration cards, National Identity Cards, mobile phones and bank tellers

The NAF states it has acquired 20x counter IED sniffer dogs and trained 12 x NAF Air Provost dog handlers in SOUTH AFRICA and NIGERIA

27 May

A clash between 2 groups (Tor Abaji and 20:20) in TSE IGBE, ABAJI, KATSINA ALA LGA, BENUE State lead to 4 killed, several wounded and up to 30 properties burnt

2 x PBIEDs detonated in DOUBLE, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region, 1 other was shot by soldiers. Here were no other casualties

24 May

Gunmen abducted 1 woman and 3 girls from GAKARA and 1 woman at night from DOUDJE, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region and taken to KIRAWA, GWOZA LGA, NIGERIA

25 May

Gunmen mounted on 2 pickup trucks attacked a Camerounian Army outpost in BOUNGOUR in the vicinity of Lake CHAD, 20km from MAKARY, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTRME NORD Region, whilst soldiers from the Garrison were playing football. 1 soldier was killed and the military post burnt

26 May

1 x PBIED mounted on a bicycle detonated in KOLOFATA, MAYO SAVA Department killing only themselves and wounding several others around 9.00am

27 May

An IED detonated in the vicinity of HARDORI, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region around 12.30pm wounding 6 villagers from HOMAKA who were collecting straw to roof their huts
