Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

14 May

Elements of 233 Bn, 27 TF Bde from FOB POTISKUM arrested a suspected Boko Haram commander Abubakar ADAMU aka PEPPER (35 years old from YERIMARA, POTISKUM LGA, YOBE State) in the vicinity of NEW PRISON Area, POTISKUM, YOBE State.

The military paraded a 14 years old suspected female PBIED, they state was captured with 3 others in the vicinity of JAKANA, MAIDUGURI. The suspect claimed to have been abducted with her father from GWOZA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State in 2013 and selected for the attack because she refused to marry 3 different Boko Haram commanders

Elements of 231Bn and 331 Bn countered an armed robbery attempt in CHANCHARA Village, SHANI LGA, BORNO State recovering 1 x AK 47, 1 x machete and assorted ammunition

15 May

3 x female PBIEDs detonated in a SHUWARI BURI Village (a Shuwa Arab settlement) in MANDARARI Ward, KONDUGA LGA, BORNO State around 9.30pm. The group had asked for shelters pretending to be travellers but had been refused. 2 then ran into a hut detonating and killing 2, the 3rd detonated amongst rescuers wounding 7.

16 May

The BORNO State Governor Kashim SHETTIMA stated that the closure of IDP camps scheduled for the end of May 2017 would be put on hold due to Boko Haram activity

Soldiers patrolling in DIKWA LGA, BORNO State detonated an IED, wounding 2 soldiers

A 15 year old girl named as Mariam MOHAMMED-ISA who was formerly a JSS 1 student in GSS CHIBOK escaped from captivity after 3 years

17 May

Elements of 125 TF Bde supported by CJTF vigilantes raided an IDP Camp in DAMBOA LGA following reports that the perpetrators of an attack on SABON GARI, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State, in which 6 soldiers were killed and several wounded were hiding there. 126 suspected Boko Haram members were arrested in the camp, capturing one suspect who had the ID card of a fallen soldier in his wallet.

Troops detained a suspected Boko Haram food supplier in YUNUSARI LGA, YOBE State with 270 x 25kg bags of rice and cans of oil

The BORNO State Governor visited DAMASAK, MOBBAR LGA where he stated the State Government had rebuilt 1,600 mud houses, 450 block houses and 16 public buildings. He also stated that 101,000 out of 150, 585 homes had been destroyed in MOBBAR LGA

A female PBIED detonated near a military checkpoint in MASHIMARI, KONDUGA LGA, BORNO State around 7.30pm killing herself and 2 soldiers. The attacker had allegedly attempted to befriend a soldier

NAF ISR aircraft conducted a confirmatory ISR mission on the outskirts of the SAMBISA Forest where a black vehicle and suspected Boko Haram dismounts were spotted the previous day, an air strike was called destroying what was assessed to be a logistics centre

18 May

The University of MAIDUGURI has hired 50 hunters to guard the university

3 x male PBIED attacked University of MAIDUGURI, BORNO State. One was intercepted around 11.50pm detonating near the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. 2 hours later another detonated at the entrance to the female BOT Hostel and detonated killing himself and wounding 2 security guards and 2 vigilantes, the other detonated near a construction site in the university

BORNO State Governor Kashim SHETTIMA stated that 10,500 refugees had been forcibly repatriated from CAMEROUN to BAMA

19 May

Elements of 3 Bn, 22 Bde supported by CJTF vigilantes conducted an intelligence driven fighting patrol in the vicinity of NGALA, NGALA LGA. Troops made contact in NDUFU, defeating the enemy and then clearing MUKTU and MUZURI. 9 enemy were killed and IED making facility destroyed. 125 civilian were liberated at NDUFU, 802 at MUKTU and 71 at MUZURI. Troops also vaccinated all children under 5 against Polio and captured 1 x AK 47 and magazine 4 x motorcycles, 2 x solar panels, 2 x IEDs det cord and IED components and 2 x Boko Haram flags

20 May

Gunmen mounted on motorcycles captured 6 vigilantes from  group of 12 who were hunting near DALORI 1 IDP camp, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State. 6 escaped and raised the alarm and 4 were found with their throats slit by the river bank

Gunmen attacked villages in MUSSA District, ASKIRA UBA LGA, BORNO State around 10.00pm killing 7, wounding 46, abducting an unspecified number and stealing foodstuffs on 4 motorcycles

A suspected male PBIED detonated in the vicinity of UNIMAID Children’s Secondary School, MAIDUGURI around 10.00am. the PBIED had hidden in a ditch near the school after being challenged and then detonated as they approached. There were no other casualties

Gunmen attacked MUSSA District, ASKIRA UBA LGA, BORNO State with small arms from KILIRKASA Axis around 7.15pm killing 1 civilian and wounding up to 40

19 May

The COAS Lt Gen BURATAI commissioned Fort Muhammadu BUHARI FOB in DAURA, LGA, KATSINA State

20 May

The COAS Lt Gen BURATAI launched Op Harbin Kunama 3, a ‘Brigade Training Exercise’ in FALGORE Forest, DOGUWA LGA, KANO State Governor

Situation North Centre (Abuja FCT, Bauchi, Benue, Gombe, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Taraba States)

14 May

Gunmen attacked a village, GIREI LGA, TARABA State killing 30 people including a DPO

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked GAZABU, TUKUN RUWA, UTSUA DAA, KUNGANA and KPENKPEN, BALI LGA, TARABA State killing 3 people, wounding several and displacing 1,765 others

Gunmen abducted the Permanent Secretary of the ONDO State Hospital Management Board Dr Niran IKUOMOLA and his driver along the LOKOJA-ABUJA Expressway in KOGI State

Suspected Fulani gunmen attacked the mosque in ETOGI Village, GBARA Ward, MOKWA LGA, NIGER State around 5.00am, killing all 21 people there including the Imam, 3 drowned whilst fleeing, 15 were wounded (3 fatally) with 5 missing. The gunmen also stole money from houses and villagers. The attack was allegedly a reprisal for an incident in which a Fulani man allegedly reneged on an agreement to pay for land and was killed in the fracas. Police have arrested 3 suspects

A disagreement led to a Fulani herdsman stabbing and killing a youth in the market in TUGAN MALAM Village, PAIKORO LGA, NIGER State. Locals retaliated killing 4 Fulani herdsmen. 3 suspects have been arrested

15 May

A clash between locals and Fulanis in ADIKO, OBI LGA, BENUE State led to 3 deaths, after a disgruntled herdsmen allegedly murdered a lady on ADIKO-ADUM ROZD apparently to cause a problem between local Fulanis

The BENUE State Police Command stated they had arrested 8 x Fulani herdsmen on suspicion of murdering 15 people in TSE AKAA, MBA’ABAJI and TSE ORLALU in UGONDO MBANAR District, LOGO LGA

The abductors of Dr Niran IKUOMOLA have demanded a N70m ransom

A community clash in OGBAI, AGATU LGA, BENUE State led to 3 deaths after a youth leader was allegedly told that some youths had stolen cattle from Fulani herdsmen, when he went to remonstrate with the youths he was murdered

Gunmen attacked a police post along OKENE-OGORI MANGOGO- LAGOS Road in OGORI MANGOGO LGA, KOGI State killing 2 and stealing 2 x AK 47

16 May

Youths attacked a Fulani settlement in OTOKWE, ADUM EAST, OBI LGA killing 3 people and 3 cattle

18 May

TARABA State Governor Darius ISHAKU, stated that Boko Haram members were fleeing from BORNO State to the SUNTAI DAAJI Forest in BALI and DONGA LGA and GASHAKA/ GUMTI National Park

19 May

The KOGI State Governor Yahaya BELLO presented 10 x pick up trucks and 260 x motorcycles to local vigilantes in the state in LOKOJA

Dr IKUOMOLA was released by his abductors. It is not known if a ransom was paid

14 May

Gunmen abducted 4 women from LDAOUTSAF Village, VREKET, MAYO MOSKOTA Arrondissement, MAYO TSANAGA Department, EXTREME NORD Region as they went to fetch water

15 May

The University of DIFFA, DIFFA Region, NIGER Republic began a 3 day international symposium on de radicalisation and reintegration of Boko Haram militants

16 May

Gunmen abducted 3 women in the vicinity of VREKET, as they went to fetch water and took them into NIGERIA

17 May

The Israeli Ambassador set up a football league for 225 IDP children in ADAMAWA State using funds for the Embassy’s Independence Day Celebration

19 May

2 x PBIEDs attacked WALLANDE, MORA, MAYO SAVA Department around 6.00am, they were challenged by vigilantes and fled into a house and detonated killing themselves and a civilian and wounding 3, 2 other suspected PBIEDs are being sought
