Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

30 April

BORNO State Police Command stated they had arrested 9 suspected Boko Haram fuel suppliers, including Modu MAIDARA from NJIMTILO arrested 19 April 2017 who allegedly supplied fuel to insurgents in ALAGARNO, SAMBISA Forest

02 May

Gunmen attacked 27 TF Bn positions in the vicinity of MANGAZUM, BORNO State, the attackers were repelled with air support. NAF ISR then tracked the enemy to a village 3.42km northeast of MANGAZUM and then tasked 2 x Alphajets and 1 x F-7Ni to strike them.

GOC 8 TF Div Maj Gen Ali NANI stated that the ban on fish smuggling between BAGA, MONGUNO and MAIDUGURI instituted 22 November 2016 was still in place

03 May

3 x suspected female teenage PBIED were shot as they approached a 195 Bn checkpoint along MAIDUGURI-MAFA Road known as GUANTANAMO in MUNA Garage, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State around 10.00pm, one of their explosive devices detonated killing them all and wounding 1 soldier

Media reports state that an airstrike by 2 x NAF Alphajets on Friday 28 April in BALLA Village, BORNO State, 40km from DAMBOA on the periphery of the SAMBISA Forest around 1.00pm killed several key Boko Haram commanders including Abba MUSTAPHA (aka Mallam ABBA) and Abubaker GASHUA (aka Abu AISHA) and wounding several others including Abubaker SHEKA. The reports state that SHEKAU was allegedly taken to an undisclosed location to in the vicinity of KOLOFATA receive medical attention. 6 fishermen in revenge, accusing them of having provided information to friendly forces. Enemy fighters then slit the throats of SHEKAUS’s inevitable video denying the allegations has not yet been released.

04 May

Gunmen mounted on motorcycles attempted to infiltrate MAIDUGURI, BORNO State via the ALAU Dam, KONDUGA LGA but were defeated by friendly forces

Boko Haram JAS leader Abubakar ‘SHEKAU’ posted a 14 minute video, in which he sat flanked by 2 masked men, speaking in Hausa and Arabic. In which he mentioned the date and time (1.00pm on Thursday 04 May) and that he was not dead and the authorities would never know his location

A MAFA LGA Councillor Umar IBRAHIM and IDP Camp official Bulama Ali ZANGEBE were convicted by BORNO State High Court on 4 charges pertaining to conspiracy and misappropriation of 180 bags of rice donated to IDPs in MAFA LGA by the Danish Refugee Council. They were sentenced to 2 years in prison each and N1m fines. Another suspect at large Shettima Lawan MAINA was also convicted in absentia

2 x female PBIEDs infiltrated a IDP camp in MANDARARI Ward, KONDUGA LGA, BORNO State around 10.45pm, detonating and killing themselves and 5 others including 2 children and wounding 6 others

 

06 May

82 abductees from GSS CHIBOK were released by Boko Haram in exchange for at least 2 enemy prisoners. The exchange was negotiated by the ICRC, SWITZERLAND and a local NGO under DSS auspices.

The exchange took place in BANKI, BAMA LGA, with an ICRC convoy taking the girls to a helicopter pick up point in BANKI, where they were flown by 2 x MI 8 helicopters to ABUJA, FCT

Gunmen robbed vehicles along KADUNA-ABUJA Road killing 2 travellers in a commercial bus

02 May

KADUNA State Governor Nair EL RUFAI, lifted the curfew in JEMA’A and KAURA LGA following a meeting of the KADUNA State Security Council, consisting of Commander 1 Div Garrison Brig Gen Ismaila ISA, Commander 453 Base Services Group NAF, Air Commodore Idi AMIN, Commandant Navy School of Armament, represented by Capt SM OCHIDI, State Commissioner of Police Agyole ABEH, State Director of the DSS, Tijani Mohammed WAKIL and others

KADUNA State Police Command has deployed a special task force known as OP Restore Hope to KUYANBANA and KAUMUKU Forests in BIRNIN GWARI LGA t combat cattle rustlers, armed robbers, armed bandits and terrorists according to the State Commissioner of Police Agyole ABEH

A dispute between AFIZERE, JARAWA, JOS NORTH LGA), PLATEAU State and the ANAGUTA people over a sign for the ANAGUTA Paramount Chief that was allegedly removed by some AFIZERE people was averted by the intervention of the STF, NPF and NSCDC

Gunmen attacked TATI, TAKUM LGA, TARABA State killing 8 people, including 5 religious leaders. Locals allege the attackers are Boko Haram from YOBE or BORNO State

The OKENE High Court, sentenced 2 men to 28 years’ imprisonment and death by hanging after finding them guilty of 4 charges of criminal conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery, criminal conspiracy to commit criminal homicide and culpable homicide. The accused murdered a cattle rearer named HARUNA in December 2015 and stole his cattle

05 May

The Chief Magistrates Court, LOKOJA, KOGI State remanded Adamu Anas MOHAMMED (27 years old, JIMETA, ADAMAWA State) to KOTON KARFE Prison on charges of membership of Boko Haram and adjourned the case till 31 May 2017.MOHAMMED had been arrested on 06 April in OBAJANA, KOGI State

Gunmen attacked herdsmen in TAKUM LGA, killing up to 15 people and scattering their cattle with up to 150 missing

06 May

Gunmen abducted the mother and sister of the member of the NASARAWA State House of Assembly Kassim MOHAMED-KASSIM (APC-AKWANGA SOUTH), from his home in MOROA, AKWANGA LGA around 8.00pm. The kidnappers have reportedly requested a N30m ransom from the family

Gunmen attacked NDABA-BLAKOLDJI, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region, 12km from KOLOFATA, wounding 2 people and burning 3 houses

Gunmen attacked ACHIGACHIA, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region at night looting food stuffs and personal effects and burning houses.

05 May

US and UK Governments stated that Boko Haram was planning to abduct foreign workers along BANKI-KUMSHE axis in BAMA LGA, BORNO State

Gunmen attacked Chadian Army positions in the vicinity of KAIGA, LAC Region, CHAD on Lake CHAD early in the morning killing 9 Chadian soldiers and wounding 28, they were repelled allegedly losing up to 28 attackers

Gunmen attacked a Cameronian Naval position in KESSA, 7 km from FOTOKOL, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region and were repulsed after several hours
