Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

29 January

Troops patrolling from BITTA, GWOZA LGA to YAMTEKE, ASKIRA UBA LGA, BORNO State detonated an IED losing 1 soldier killed and 4 wounded

Troops supported by BAMA CJTF and Camerounian forces defeated enemy fighters in GULUMBA, BAMA LGA, BORNO State capturing at least 1 x truck mounted with AAA gun, 1 x GPMG, 1 x FN FAL, 2 x AK 47, 3 x shotguns and an unspecified amount of 7.62mm (NATO) link

30 January

A pre teen female suspected attempted to infiltrate an IDP Camp in BANKI, BAMA LGA, BORNO State around 11.30am during a WFP feeding session but was spotted and shot by security forces

31 January

A young male PBIED attacked a mosque along MAIDUGURI- BAMA Road in DALORI, JERE LGA, BORNO State on the outskirts of MAIDUGURI around 5.20am killing himself and one of the civilian guards

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked a group of Bwatiye men fishing at a pond in GERENG, GIREI LGA, ADAMAWA State killing 1 and wounding 3

Gunmen ambushed a police convoy transporting a suspect from BIU Area Command to State CID, MAIDUGURI in the vicinity of KUBUWA, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State around 10.30am killing 1 policeman and wounding 9

2 x female PBIEDs approached a checkpoint near NNPC Mega Station along DAMBOA Road MAIDUGURI, BORNO State around 6.45am, upon challenge by NSCDC personnel they refused to stop and were fired upon, killing one, the second one surrendered. The devices were made safe by EOD. The captured suspect stated her name was Amina, an 18 year old allegedly abducted from MADAGALI and taken to SAMBISA Forest, she stated they were transported to MAIDUGURI by motorcycle over 3 days from GOBARAWA via DAMBOA, with N200.00 feeding money each and were told to detonate in the midst of a gathering and would automatically go to heaven. She stated she had been held by SHEKAU’s faction and that they had encountered the military en route and their handlers had fled.

01 February

Troops pursued enemy forces to DUSALA, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State killing 6 enemy and capturing 1 x light machine gun, 2 x RPG tubes, 1 x AAA gun barrel. Troops moved on, engaging enemy forces at BUK, DAMBOA LGA, losing 3 friendly soldiers killed and 5 wounded. 1 x 23mm ZSU-2 AAA gun , 9 x AK 47, 3 x FN FALs, 1 x RPG tube, 2 x Toyota Hilux, 1 x PKM machine gun and 1 x truck with AAA gun mounted, 1 x mortar tube and 1  x pick up mounted with an AAA gun were captured

 

A General Courts Martial sitting in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State sentenced Lance Corporal Hassan ADAMU to 7 years imprisonment for manslaughter for shooting a man in MAIDUGURI Monday Market on 23 December 2015. Another soldier was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment for going AWOL for 270 days from his post in GWOZA and not accounting for his rifle an ammunition

Elements of 25 TF Bde, conducted clearance operations in DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State, first clearing DULSA, where they killed 6 enemy and captured 1 x machine gun, 2 x RPG tubes and 1 x AAA gun barrel and then moving to BUK, where they defeated enemy forces killing 35 and capturing 9 x AK 47, 3 x FN FAL, 2 x RPG rounds, 1 x mortar tube, 1 x 23 x 2mm AAA gun, 3 x vehicles including 2 x Hiluxes and 1 mounted with an AAA gun, 3 soldiers were killed, 5 wounded and 1 x MRAP was damaged

02 February

MCCC Commander Gen IRABOR stated that 112 people died and 97 were wounded in the RANN IDP Camp airstrike

GOC 3 Div Maj Gen Peter DAUKE visited 29 TF Bde sub units, 154 TF Bn at ALAGARNO and 156 TF Bn at MAULI

Troops conducting a clearance patrol to TALALA/ AJIGIN detonated 2 x IEDs around 5.15pm, 8km from AJIGIN DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State killing 2 and wounding 4

Situation North West (Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States)

29 January

4x Armed robbers attacked the house of a businessman in YANDUTSE Village, BICHI LGA, KANO State around 4.30am stealing N750,000.00 and other items, the NPF responded killing 1 and arresting another. 1 X locally made pistol, N510,275.00, 1 x satellite decoder, 1 x wristwatch and some charms were recovered. Following up on information from the detainee led them to the alleged gang leaders house where they recovered 5 x local made pistols and 10 x cartridges

KADUNA State Police Command paraded 17 suspects arrested as part of the Fulani/farmer clashes in Southern KADUNA who were to be charged with inciting public disturbance, disturbing the peace, causing mischief by fire, culpable homicide, theft and unlawful possession of arms, also displayed were 29 improvised fire arms, one of the suspects Nelson PAUL confessed to having supplied the weapons to the suspects

02 February

KANO State Police Command conducted a special operation detaining 111 foreigners, 53 people from the North East of Nigeria, 67 young people, 112 prostitutes and 544 other adults with no form of identification following reports of infiltration from the North East

Police detained 2 suspected Fulani gunmen at SAMARU KATAF Roundabout, ZANGON KATAF LGA, KADUNA State around 7.30am heading to FADAN KARSHI, SANGA LGA with 2 x AK 47s and 2 x cutlasses. A letter written in Hausa had earlier been left in the community ostensibly on from the cattle breeders association warning of an attack

03 February

The KADUNA State Police Command paraded 5 suspected gunmen detained following a tip off they were planning to attack a village in ZANGON KATAF LGA, KADUNA State. Recovering 2 x AK 47, 1 x locally made improvised pistol and assorted charms

04 February

KADUNA State Government amended the 24 hour curfew in ZANGON KATAF LGA to 12 hours from 6.00pm to 6.00am

The COAS Lt Gen TY BURATAI laid the foundation stone for a new military barracks in KAFANCHAN, JEMA’A LGA, KADUNA State for a new battalion as part of 1 Div. He also laid the foundation stone for a FOB for 2 Bn in ZANGON KATAF LGA and visited the Emir of JAMA’A, Chief of KAGORO and 101 Special Force Bn deployed to NINTE Village

26 January

A delegation from the INDIANA National Guard led by Maj Gen Courtney P. CARR, the Adjutant General of the US State of INDIANA signed a long term security cooperation partnership agreement with Gen Seyni GARBA, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Nigerien Armed forces in NIAMEY, NIGER Republic as part of the US National Guard’s State Partnership Program

31 January

Mummuye youth attacked 2 Fulani villages BONJA and MAYO KUNGA in LAU LGA, TARABA State around 2.00am killing 6 people and 80 houses burnt. 24 people have been arrested

Gunmen abducted the Head of the Works Department of MOPA MURO LGA along KABBA-OBAJANA Road as she headed to a Staff Screening and Verification exercise in LOKOJA

01 February

Gunmen abducted 3 MOPA MURO Local Government workers around 9.45am heading from MOPA MURO LGA to a Staff Screening and Verification exercise in LOKOJA along KABBA-OBAJANA Road

A clash between illegal miners from GERO Village, GYEL District, JOS SOUTH LGA and MIANGO, BASSA LGA, PLATEAU State around 1.00pm resulted in 6 dead, after 2 people from GYEL were allegedly killed and then 4 from MIANGO in reprisal

Suspected Fulani gunmen attacked TSE KYANYION, TSE AZAKPA and TSE ORBIAM Villages, LOGO LGA, killing 1 person in TSE ORBIAM and burning over 100 properties, displacing inhabitants to UGBA. The police stated 4 people had been arrested

03 February

The NPF has deployed 5 extra MOPOL units to NIGER State to counter kidnapping and cattle rustling, in conjunction with the new unit deployed to KONTAGORA LGA

Elements of Op Safe Haven have arrested and paraded 8 suspects and captured 13 x fire arms in PASHO Village, BASSA LGA, PLATEAU State following the illegal miners clash in GYEL and MIANGO

Gunmen attacked the traditional ruler of OGANENIGU, DEKINA LGA, KOGI State with small arms and bladed weapons around 9.00pm

04February

A man was attacked and killed at GERO Village, JOS SOUTH LGA, PLATEAU State and robbed of his money and personal effects. It is unclear if it is related to the mining clashes

30 January

Gunmen attacked OURO MOUSSA KAMBO, FOTOKOL Arrondissement, LOGONE ET CHARI Department around 3.00am killing 1 man and wounding 3

31 January

Gunmen attacked a UN Technical Monitoring Team on the NIGERIA/ CAMEROUN Border demarcation in the vicinity of HOSERE JONGBI, near KONTCHA (between FARO and DEO), FARO ET DEO Department, ADAMAOUA Region around 2.00pm killing 3 Nigerians (including the TARABA State Assistant Surveyor General), a Camerounian and a Kenyan UN contractor adjacent to TOUNGO LGA, ADAMAWA State

3 x PBIED attacked a shepherd’s camp in DOUBLE, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region in the morning killing 1 other person and wounding 7

Media reports stated that up to 10 people died and 70 were hospitalised attempting selection to BIR after an 18 mile run with a pack

02 February

Brig Gen Valere NKA has been made acting commander of 4th Military Region (4RMIA) following the death of Gen KODJI. Gen NKA was previously the Camerounian Defence Attaché to NIGERIA and deputy Commander MNJTF

03 February

2 PBIEDs infiltrated KERAWA, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region, vigilantes detected them shooting one and pursuing the other who fled to KIRAWA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State and detonated
