A male PBIED disguised as a beggar detonated at the entrance to the market in MORA, MAYO SAVA Department around 8.00am killing 3 people and wounding 5. He was spotted by vigilantes before entering and detonated when challenged

The MAIDUGURI-GUBIO-DAMASAK Road and MAIDUGURI-MUNGUNO-BAGA Road were declared open to public use since 2013 in a ceremony attended by Minister of Information and Culture Lai MOHAMMED, Defence Minister, Mansur DAN ALI and BORNO STATE Governor Kashim SHETTIMA

Troops deployed to FOB POTISKUM, POTISKUM LGA, YOBE State detained a suspected Boko Haram member Musa ABDULLAHI at FIKA, FIKA LGA,

Troops arrested 2 x suspected Boko Haram members in MAIDUGURI

2 x female PBIEDs attacked KASUWAN SHANU Cattle Market, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State around 8.30am. Upon challenge by CJTF ,  one PBIED ran and detonated, killing only herself, the second one was apprehended by surrounding citizens, unfortunately dying of her injuries, security forces conducted a controlled detonation on her device. Security forces state that they had reports that 5 suspected PBIEDs had infiltrated the city

3,000 IDPs returned to DAMASAK, MOBBAR LGA, BORNO State received by local elders, religious leaders, Civilian JTF and Local Government Officials

The COAS Lt Gen Tukur BURATAI celebrated Christmas with troops of 145 Bn in DAMASAK, MOBBAR LGA, BORNO State and stated that SAMBISA and ALAGARNO Forests would be turned into Training Areas for basic and advanced training up to Division level

Media reports state that over 40 foreigners were captured in the previous week in SAMBISA Forest

Media reports state that a French national was captured in the BAMA, axis of the SAMBISA Forest, who specialised in repairing armoured vehicles and other equipment

A 10 year old boy was abducted from Ben Kalio Estate, DAMATURU, YOBE State around 9.00am. The DSS rescued in POTISKUM, POTISKUM LGA around 7.20pm arresting 2 suspects including the boys’ mother

The ADAMAWA State Deputy Governor Martins BABALE stated that IDP camps in the state will be shut by 30 January

Boko Haram (JAS) released a 25 minute video featuring Abubakar ‘SHEKAU’ speaking in Hausa and Arabic denied they had been pushed out of SAMBISA Forest, stating the video had been made on 25 December

The ADAMAWA State Governor Muhammadu JIBRILLA warned that Boko Haram members were fleeing to the state

Troops deployed to CASHEW Plantation, JERE LGA, BORNO State on patrol in the vicinity of BALE SHUARI, JERE LGA intercepted 30 cattle around 10.30am, suspected to have been rustled at TASUMGANDU

Elements of 3 Bn and 112 Bn ambushed enemy forces armed with small arms and IEDs in the vicinity of RANN, KALA BALGE LGA, BORNO State around 6.03am, losing 15 enemy killed in a 3 hour firefight with 4 friendly wounded. 2 x AK 47, 1 x M21 rifle, 4 x FN FAL, 110 x 7.62mm (NATO) rounds, 20 x 7.62mm (AK) rounds, 40 x 7.62 (NATO) for the M21, 4 x FN magazines and 2 x IEDs

Troops detained a suspected Boko Haram member at GONI KALLA. Whilst being transported to DAMATURU, the suspect tried to escape and was shot and killed

Security services arrested a suspected Boko Haram commander in the home of MAFA LGA Caretaker Chairman Shettima Lawan MAINA in the 1,000 Housing Estate, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State. The suspect was allegedly recognised by a Councillor from the LGA who stated the suspect killed his father. The Vice Chairman of KAGA LGA was also detained on suspicion of collaboration

31 December

Media reports state that vigilantes have sighted suspected enemy in the vicinity of KALA BALGE Forest, KALA BALGE LGA

Troops conducted clearance operations in the vicinity of AIWA Village, MAFA LGA, BORNO State 25km from MAIDUGURI, clearing TAULA, MAJAJA, MAFAIDE, JAAJA, MASU KURA and AIWA Villages as part of the op, no enemy was encountered, although a screening of villagers in AIWA Village led to the arrest of a man accused by locals of assisting Boko Haram with food supplies

A female pre teen PBIED detonated at a tea sellers store opposite Sanda Kyarimi Primary School, CUSTOM District, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State around 9.30pm. Locals had noticed her suspicious behaviour and fled just as she detonated, killing only herself and slightly wounding one other

25 December

The KADUNA State relaxed the 24 hour curfew imposed on JEMA’A, KAURA and ZANGON KATAF LGA, to run from 6.00am to 6.00pm for the 25th and 26th December, the 2 hour curfew resumes on the 27th

KADUNA State Police Command launched Op Harmony in Southern KADUNA based in KAFANCHAN, consisting of MOPOL, CTU, SARS, Intelligence Response Team and the IGP Monitoring Unit, supported by a Police Air Wing Helicopter

Elements of 1 Div detained 2 men in KAGOMA Chiefdom, JABA LGA, KADUNA State carrying live ammunition in a maroon VW. Type and quantity were not specified

GOC 1 Div Gen Adeniyi OYEBADE deployed troops to NINTE, JEMA’A LGA, KADUNA State due to allegations that Fulani herdsmen were grazing crops on farms

Elements of Op Harmony in southern KADUNA State announced they had arrested 17 suspects with arms and ammunitions, capturing 6 x locally made AK 47 type firearms, 4 x pump action shotguns, 2 x revolvers, 1 x single barrel firearm, 75 types of ammunition and 13 x shotgun cartridges and N400,000.00

30 December

NDLEA SOKOTO State Command states that they have confiscated 2.5 tonnes of Rohypnol and other drugs worth N20m in the last 12 months including 200kg of cannabis, 450 kg of assorted cough syrups

The Defence Minister Mansur Muhammad DAN ALI laid the foundation stone for a new NAF unit the 207 Quick Response Group in GUSAU, ZAMFARA State. 207 QRG comes under the command of the Special Operations Command, headquartered in BAUCHI State

24 December

A clash between two gangs on in SABON GARI and OJIRA Area of OTURKPO, OTURKPO LGA, BENUE State led to 7 killed, NPF stated there were 3 dead, 3 wounded, 8 arrested and 4 locally made pistols recovered.

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked KAURE, AJATAN and KWAKI Villages, SHIRORO LGA, NIGER State killing 3 people, wounding several others and stealing livestock

25 December

The DSS states that it has apprehended 2 men along GOMBE-DIKKU Road, xx LGA, GOMBE State around 1.15pm with N2m allegedly for Boko Haram operations in YOBE and BAUCHI State, one of whom was shot and killed during the operation

Some of the passengers abducted from a commercial bus en route to ABUJA on 21 December were released. One of the abductees stated they were marched for an hour into the forest, into a camp with raffia huts, guarded by men armed with rifles with bayonets. She stated that they smashed her ankle with a rifle to prevent escape and used threats and beatings to intimidate them during the first 24 hours. She stated they demanded N5m ransom from their families, spoke mainly Fulani as well as Hausa and pidgin English, she also stated that a retired Army officer and a pregnant lady were abducted and brought to the camp on 22 December. She stated one of her fellow abductees and the pregnant lady were taken away on 23 December. She was released after an argument between the kidnappers with the elderly lady and retired officer

The GOMBE State Police Command stated they had deployed 2,000 officers to secure the state during the holiday period

The NSCDC detained 2 x suspected cattle rustlers and seized 294 rams following an alarm being raised by a member of the public in TUNGA WAWA, KONTOGORA LGA, NIGER State at around 11.30pm, some of the suspects escaped, whilst 2 were detained

The DSS arrested 2 suspected kidnappers Mohammed ALI and Sani DIGARU in the SILAS Area, GANJUWA LGA (?), BAUCHI State(?) along GOMBE-DUKKU Road. DIGARU attempted to escape back to their YUGA Forest hideout and was shot and fatally wounded in the leg. The other suspect was detained and N28,800.00, 3 mobile phones, 2 rings, tobacco, spectacles, wrist watch and lighter recovered.

26 December

BENUE State Police Command state they have arrested 24 suspects including Terkura AGWAZA, senior brother of Terwasa AGWAZA (aka GHANA) and recovered 20 firearms including 1 x G3 rifle and 4 x rounds of ammunition

27 December

Members of the ABUJA Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Marshall Guards arrested a man named USMAN in UTAKO Market, ABUJA, FCT at 4.30pm who they allege is a Boko Haram member who was proselytizing in the market. The suspect allegedly confessed to their being numerus Boko Haram members in ABUJA. Marshall Guards are a recently established private security outfit for AMAC

The OMU ARAN Community, IREPODUN LGA, KWARA State donated 3 x security posts along OMU-ARAN-IPETU-EKAN, OMU-ARAN-EKAN and OMU-ARAN-ILOFFA Road to the NPF

29 December

Gunmen attacked the convoy of a former APC Council Chairman in MALA Village, IBI LGA, TARABA State around 6.00pm, killing 1 and wounding 3

Up to 60 gunmen armed with AK 47s and bladed weapons raided DAN MAYANA and DOGON GONA, RAFI LGA, NIGER State killing 4 people, abducting up to 30 villagers, stealing livestock and raping women. The villagers complained that the attackers demanded between N2m-N3m in ransom.

30 December

Police in NASARAWA State have arrested 5 people suspected of the murder of 4 miners including a Chinese citizen on 28 November in WUGIBI Hills, NASARAWA EGGON LGA, 1 x AK 47, a military style uniform were recovered, the leader was named as Yahuza YAHAYA

Gunmen abducted a businessman from KANO State Alhaji Ismaila ZUBAIRU on the OKENE-AKURE Road in the vicinity of OKENGWE, OKENE LGA, KOGI State around 8.15pm

Troops supported by the NSCDC arrested Rabiu IBRAHIM, a suspected Boko Haram member in BAJOGA, FUNAKAYE LGA, GOMBE State who reportedly confessed to membership of the cult for 4 years and conducting attacks along DAMATURU-MAIDUGURI Road until military pressure caused him to flee

31 December

Over 30 communities in LANGTANG NORTH, LANGTANG SOUTH, MIKANG, QUA’AN PAN, SHENDAM and WASE LGAs in PLATEAU State signed a peace agreement entitled ‘The Southern Plateau Peace Declaration’ mediated by a Swiss mediation organisation Humanitarian Dialogue, witnessed by the US and German Ambassador, former EFCC chairman, the 6 LG Chairmen, PLATEAU State Governor Simon LALONG and NASS member for WASE Federal Constituency Idris MAJEJ

Gunmen abducted the Ohi of AJAOKUTA, Alhaji Isah ACHUJA from his vehicle along the LOKOJA-AJAOKUTA Road in the vicinity of LOKOJA, KOGI State. The kidnappers demanded N20m ransom.

The Pastor abducted from TCHAOUDE, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region, CAMEROUN ON 24 December has been found dead in NIGERIA

27 December

Nigerien Interior Minister Bazoum MOHAMED stated that 31 Boko Haram fighters had surrendered in DIFFA Region, NIGER Republic. He stated they had surrendered individually and were undergoing deradicalization


28 December

Gunmen attacked BAME, KOLOFATA Arrondissement, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region killing 2 civilians

The Nigerien Interior Minister Bazoum MOHAMED announced a DDR programme for surrendered Boko Haram fighters, guaranteeing them security and freedom from prosecution, with a deradicalization programme

31 December

Gunmen attacked Nigerien positions in the vicinity of BAROUA, DIFFA Region, NIGER Republic at night killing 3 and wounding 7 soldiers. 15 enemy were reportedly killed and 1 captured
