Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

18 December

1 x suspected female and 1 x suspected male PBIEDs attempted to attack a checkpoint along the DIKWA GAMBORU Road, in GELERI Village, 5km from MUNA Garage, JERE?? LGA on the outskirts of MAIDUGURI around 8.30pm. The female detonated upon being challenged killing the bearer and her companion and wounding 3 others. Her companion’s device was made safe by NPF EOD

Troops conducted clearance operations towards MASA, GULUMBA GANA, ARICINGORI and ZANGERI Villages, BAMA LGA, BORNO State, rescuing 67 women. 23 boys and 19 girls from MASA Village

Gunmen abducted fishermen in NGADIYA Village, BORNO (?) State, troops responded around 10.10am defeating the enemy and freeing 15 fishermen. 1 was killed and another abducted

2 x PBIEDs attempted to pass a checkpoint in MAFA, MAFA LGA, BORNO State and were shot when they refused orders to stop, with their devices detonating

19 December

Troops conducted an advance towards GULUMBA GANA, engaging the enemy, killing 15, capturing an unspecified number of weapons, 18 x motorcycles, 25 x bicycles, 4 x solar panels and 2 x spare tyres. 1 soldier was killed and another wounded

Social media reports state that an Agusta Utility helicopter took ground fire whilst resupplying one of the units in the SAMBISA Forest

20 December

70 soldiers detained in IKOYI and KIRIKIRI Prison, have written to President BUHARI via their lawyer Femi FALANA requesting a pardon

Troops deployed to ZABARMARI arrested a suspect from BURKINA FASO, Abdullahi YAKINE in DANGE, MAFA LGA

Troops deployed to MIYANTI conducted a patrol towards MIYANTI-BANKI Junction engaging the enemy at one of their crossing points at 5.30pm killing one and wounding one. 3 x bicycles, 1 x basket of kola nut, 2 x cartons of Omo detergent, 92 x sachets of Cowbell milk, 7 c cups of sugar, 15 x bars of duck soap, 10 x packets of matches and 7 x packets of Diclofenac tablets were recovered

21 December

Troops discovered 600 x 7.62mm (NATO) rounds in a plastic container buried in a river in GWANGE District, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State

Commander OP Lafiya Dole Maj Gen Leo IRABOR stated during his press briefing that between 14-21 December 1,880 civilians had been rescued, 564 Boko Haram suspects detained and 19 surrendered, 7 suspected kidnappers and 37 illegal foreigners arrested. He also stated the Army was constructing an earth road in SAMBISA Forest and complained about certain press reports of mutinies and dissatisfaction.

At the conclusion of a 2 day ambush operation at a suspected enemy crossing point troops captured 1 x suspect Ali BULAMA in the vicinity of MOMADU BUKUMIRI Village, KAGA LGA near MAINOK, KONDUGA LGA, BORNO State

22 December

Troops conducted a fighting patrol along the road to KATARKO, GONIRI, BULTARAM KURA, BULTARAM KWANA, MELERI NGAMMA and YURAMTI Villages, MAGUMERI LGA encountering 15 suspected Boko Haram members in the vicinity of YURAMTI Village who stated they were relocating from ZINDIYA and BUK Villages, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State to GONIRI

Media reports state that a ‘white man’ was arrested inside SAMBISA Forest. No nationality was given

23 December

Troops overran Camp Zero in SAMBISA Forest, BORNO State around 1.35pm

Troops conducted a fighting patrol to KALARI Village, MAFA LGA, BORNO State recovering 1 x HK 21 machine gun

Troops from MAULI, KAGA LGA, conducted an admin patrol to ALAGARNO, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State, detonating an IED around 8.45am followed by a small arms attack, losing 4 soldiers killed and 2 wounded and 1 x canter truck damaged

24 December

President BUHARI congratulated troops for ‘crushing’ enemy forces in SAMBISA Forest, claiming it was the last enemy stronghold

20 December

Protesters in KAFANCHAN, JEMA’A LGA, KADUNA State including topless women protested the killings in Southern KADUNA, demanding to speak to Governor EL RUFAI. At the conclusion of an interactive session with the Governor they allegedly clashed with his security detail and counter protestors, damaging some vehicles with an unspecified number were injured

20 November

The NAF Regiment Training Centre, KADUNA hosted a graduation ceremony for 209 trainees who had been mentored by the UK RAF Regiment from the British Military Advisory Training Team on the Basic Regiment Officers Course, Basic Regiment Airmen/ Airwomen Course Riggers Course for Paratrooper Instructors and a Rappelling Course

21 December

The KADUNA State Government imposed a 24 hour curfew on ZANGON KATAF, KAURA and JEMA’A LGA’s in southern KADUNA

The NIGER State Commissioner for the Environment Dr Aliyu TANGWAGI stated that 500 forest guards had been employed to patrol forests in the State

The KADUNA State Governor Nasir EL RUFAI stated that additional military units were to be based in the state in FADAN KARSHI, SANDA LGA, KAURA LGA, BIRNIN GWARI and KUBAU LGA to provide extra security in Southern KADUNA, 2 MOPOL squadrons had also been deployed

22 December

The KADUNA State NSCDC Commandant Alhaji Modu BANA stated that 3,000 personnel will be deployed to secure the Christmas festivities

24 December

Gunmen attacked GOSKA KANIKON Village near KAFANCHAN, JEMA’A LGA, KADUNA State around 6.00pm with small arms killing up to 10 people, wounding several others and burning down several buildings

The SOKOTO State NPF and NSCDC deployed 3,700 personnel to secure the state for the holidays

Situation North Centre (Abuja FCT, Bauchi, Benue, Gombe Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Taraba States)

18 December

Suspected Fulani attacked Tivs in DAN ANACHA (KWARARAFA) Village, GASSOL LGA, TARABA State murdered up to 18 early in the morning with bladed weapons, 4 were killed on the BORNO-KRUKU Road, 2 on their farms and the rest in their homes. 18 other people were reported injured in what is believed to be a reprisal attack, approximately 10,000 people were subsequently displaced

19 December

Gunmen attacked IJORKYA 1, IJORKYA 2, IJORKYA 3 and TSE MCHIAMINE, SALON GIDA Ward and NONGUKU and CHIA Villages, NANGURU Ward, GASSOL?? LGA, TARABA State

22 December

Gunmen attacked travellers in a Toyota jeep, on MANGU-BARKIN LADI Road in the vicinity of MANGU HALLE, JOS SOUTH LGA, killing one, wounding one other, robbing his companion and stealing the vehicle around 7.30pm, another man was shot and wounded

23 December

NASARAWA State NPF state they have deployed 5,000 policemen to secure the state for the holidays

24 December

Suspected nomadic gunmen abducted 3 females from a commercial vehicle travelling from LAGOS to ABUJA, they waylaid in KWALI Area Council, ABUJA FCT, demanding ransoms of N10m and N5m from the families of the victim

A clash between two gangs on in SABON GARI and OJIRA Area of OTURKPO, OTURKPO LGA, BENUE State led to 7 killed, NPF stated there were 3 dead, 3 wounded, 8 arrested and 4 locally made pistols recovered.

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked KAURE, AJATAN and KWAKI Villages, SHIRORO LGA, NIGER State killing 3 people, wounding several others and stealing livestock

Situation External (Rest of the World).

18 December

The German Defence Minister Ursala VON DAR LEYEN met with the Minister of Defence Mansur DAN ALI in ABUJA FCT and stated GERMANY would provide 4.2m Euros for the procurement of surveillance equipment, mobile and other support medical equipment through the German Technical Advisory Group Agreement between 2017-2020. So far NIGERIA had received 180 x Vallon mine detectors and other EOD equipment and training. GERMANY had also donated 3 x mobile Tactical Ground Surveillance Radar systems and 2 x mobile medical facilities.

19 December

Camerounian forces began a large scale operation against Boko Haram forces in NIGERIA

24 December

Gunmen abducted a Pastor from TCHAOUDE, WAZA Arrondissement, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region

The security forces detained a suspected Boko Haram member in IKORODU, LAGOS State
