Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

01 October

NEMA has released 80,000 bags (200 tons) of rice, maize, beans and sugar, 2,100 cartons of seasoning cubes and 2,400 cans of cooking oil for distribution to 1.6m IDPs in MAIDUGURI Metropolitan Centre and JERE LGA, BORNO State in October and November

02 October

Gov Kashim SHETTIMA visited DAMASAK, MOBBAR LGA, BORNO State

The NAF has begun air interdiction operations to degrade enemy capabilities in SAMBISA Forest called Op Forest Storm in order to restrict enemy freedom of movement and neutralise enemy attempts to interfere with friendly movement

A suspected Boko Haram member Adamu NUHU was arrested in KWAYA KUSAR LGA, BORNO State following a tip off. 3 suspected wives of Boko Haram members were arrested in MIRINGA Market, BIU LGA by vigilantes around 5.45pm

05 October

Commander MCCC, Maj Gen Lucky IRABOR stated that the Army was consolidating around MALLAM FATORI, ABADAM and GASHIGAR

Senator Bashir GABAI proposed a motion to investigate potential corruption in the relief efforts in North East Nigeria

06 October

CJTF Vigilante detained a suspected cattle rustler Abur Modu MAGAJI at KASUWAR SHANU Cattle Market, MAIDUGURI. He allegedly stole 25 cows from a man with 20 other suspects, of whom he reportedly identified 7 other suspects at MAFA Road Checkpoint, 3 of whom were identified as Boko Haram suspects whilst 4 others as his customers

CJTF vigilantes and troops detained 3 suspects at a VCP on MAIDUGURI MAFA Road who allegedly confessed to cattle rustling

Elements of 195 Bn arrested suspected 2 x cattle rustlers and Boko Haram members from BAMA around 5.00pm at Cattle Market, MAIDUGURI

3 x suspected female PBIEDs approached a military position in GWOZA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State from the direction of PULKA, in bulky hijab, with an awkward gait, arousing the suspicions of a vigilante, the suspects reportedly attempted to rush the position but were stopped, a third ran into the bush but as pursued. 1 soldier was wounded. It is not clear if the soldier was wounded by the first 2 or the third and if the third escaped

A suspected male PBIED attempted to enter MAIDUGURI, BORNO State via ALIDAWARI Village 4km from JIDARI POLO around 6.30am, when he refused to obey commands to stop he was shot. The device was made safe by Army and NPF EOD

Situation North West (Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States)

03 October

KADUNA State Police Command has arrested 3 people in HAYIN LIMAN Village behind ABU Main Campus, ZARIA, ZARIA LGA suspected of kidnaping Fatima INUSA on 19 September 2016 in ZARIA and the suspected killers of an NSCDC personnel on 08 September 2016 between BAKIN KASUWA and SABON GAYAN, CHUKUN LGA, KADUNA State were arrested and his motorcycle found in their possession

Approximately 6 x gunmen abducted a former Minister of Environment Mrs Laurentia MALLAM, her husband Pius MALLAM and their driver between BWARI and JERE along ABUJA-KADUNA Expressway, KADUNA State around 7.00pm, the driver was later released

04 October

The abductors of Mr and Mrs MALLAM requested a N10m from their families

05 October

Elements of 1 Div based in ANCHAU KUBAU LGA, KADUNA State detained 2 suspected kidnappers as they were allegedly on their way to collect a ransom in DUTSEN WAI from a victims family, soldiers chased them in an unmarked car, engaging in a pursuit which passed through police checkpoints at SOBA and MAIGANA until they were apprehended in ZARIA recovering 1 x mobile phone, 4 x SIM cards, 1 x micro SD card, 1 x INEC voters card, 1 x Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria ID card, 1 x UBA Debit Card, 1 x Keystone Bank Debit Card, N12,710.00 and a notebook with names of victims and families

Mr and Mrs MALLAM were released by their abductors after an undisclosed ransom was paid by the family

The KADUNA State House of Assembly has set up a fact finding committee to investigate the violence in Southern KADUNA State

The Islamic Movement of NIGERIA (IMN) has claimed that the Army abducted one of its members Sanusi HARUNA from DUTSIN MA, DUTSIN MA LGA, KATSINA State on 03 October and a teenager Aisha ATTAH from KATSINA City on 04 October as she came from an Ashura ceremony. No comment from the Army

06 October

The KADUNA State Executive Council has declared the IMN to be an unlawful society after deliberating upon the findings of the Panel f Inquiry

Gunmen abducted a Bayero University, KANO, KANO State lecturer Saminu Aliyu KIRI and 2 others after flagging down his vehicle in BIRNIN GWARI, BIRNIN GWARI LGA, KADUNA State, travelling from OYO State. A N1.5m ransom had been requested

07 October

Elements of 223 Bn, 1 Bde, 1 Div on patrol in GOBIRAWAN KWACHA, DANSADAU Emirate, MARU LGA, ZAMFARA State engaged suspected armed bandits destroying 4 motorcycles and then raided their camps at TSANNU, BIRNIN MAGAJI LGA and RUGGA Villages, ZURMI LGA, killing 2 suspects and recovering 1 x military style uniform, 1 x motorcycle, 1 x dane gun and 1 x solar panel. Another raid in DUMBURUM Forest, ZURMI LGA resulted in 1 suspect killed, 15 x 7.62mm (NATO) rounds and 3 x dane guns recovered

Saminu Aliyu KIRI, the abducted Bayero University KANO lecturer was released by his kidnappers. It is not clear if a ransom was paid

08 October

IMN spokesman Ibraheem MUSA stated the organisation would challenge the KADUNA State ban through legal means.

02 October

Gunmen mounted on motorcycles attacked Police Divisional HQ, IGUMALE, ADO LGA, BENUE State around 12.30am, killing 2 policemen, wounding 2 others (who subsequently died) and stealing an unspecified amount of weapons. The attackers withdrew towards OKPOGA via ADIGA

Elements of 33 Bde patrolling Mai Hari Village, ALKALERI LGA, BAUCHI State engaged suspected kidnappers and armed robbers killing 2 after a firefight and rescuing 4 women and a child

Elements of 33 Bde patrolling from FOB NINGI, engaged suspected kidnappers in a firefight in DUTSEN MAKURDI, NINGI LGA, BAUCHI State around 1.30pm, killing 5 suspects, recovering 3 x dane guns and 1 x bow and arrows

03 October

Commander Op Safe Haven Maj Gen Nicholas ROGERS launched Op Motorcycle Battalion in RIYOM LGA, PLATEAU State. The unit was to be deployed to BARKIN LADI, MANGU, WUSE and RIYOM LGA

A book launched in ABUJA, FCT entitled ‘Muhammadu BUHARI: The challenges of leadership in NIGERIA’ by Prof. John PADEN states that Boko Haram demanded 5bn Euros from the Government as a ransom for the GSS CHIBOK abductees

DHQ has designated a special Task Force named Op Accord to attend to the herdsmen related violence in the North Central Zone BENUE State

05 October

Youths allegedly burnt down police post at AWAJIR, KONSHISHA LGA, BENUE State after a policeman allegedly shot a motorcyclist at a VCP

BIR is to recruit an additional 1,800 soldiers between 07 January and 16 February 2017

05 October

The trial of Camerounian RFI journalist Ahmed ABBA on charges of failing to report acts of terrorism resumed in YAOUNDE, CAMEROUN, he was arrested on 30 July 2015 in MAROUA and the trial started 29 February 2016. The journalist pled not guilty and the case was adjourned to 19 October 2016

06 October

Gunmen attacked SAGME, FOTOKOL Arrondissement, LOGONE ET CHARI Department at night, killing a policeman and wounding 5 soldiers. One attacker was killed

The Camerounian government has stated that at least 500 teachers haven’t reported for duty in EXTREME NORD Region

07 October

A German Delegation visited the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning in ABUJA, FCT and stated GERMANY would donate 47.6m Euros to support the resettlement of IDPs and support the Green Innovation Centre for Agriculture and Food Sector
