Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

25 September

Boko Haram released a new 40-minute video in which ‘SHEKAU’ reappeared in rude health, speaking Hausa, Arabic, English and Kanuri disclaiming that he had been killed or wounded and identifying the date as 25 September and demanding release of his ‘brethren’ in return for the GSS CHIBOK abductees

An admin convoy from MAIDUGURI was ambushed with IEDs and small arms between MIYANTI and DARELJAMAL, BAMA LGA, BORNO State, the ambush was defeated with 3 enemy killed, 1 x machine gun, 1 x AK 47 and ammunition captured. 4 soldiers were killed, 16 soldiers and 3 vigilantes were wounded and 2 vehicles damaged

Gunmen launched a multiple wave attack on troops at LOGOMANI, NGALA LGA, along DIKWA-GAMBORU Road, BORNO State around 1.00am using small arms, hand grenades and RPGs but were defeated after an hour, losing 22 enemy killed, 2 x AK 47, 1 x FN FAL, 1 x G3 and several Type 36 HE hand grenades captured. 4 soldiers were killed and 2 wounded

Daesh/ Boko  Haram have released photos through Amaq News Agency of the aftermath of fighting with MNJTF forces, showing still photos of 1 x truck, 1 x Hilux, 1 x tanker, 3 x Army ID cards, 1 x drivers licence, 1 x PVC, 3 x other ID cards, 2 x operational medals and 3 x Code of Conduct booklets

200 MOPOL have been deployed to BAMA, BAMA LGA, BORNO State

26 September

The BORNO State Commissioner of Police Damian CHUKWU stated that NPF EOD had defused 67 IEDs in the Army Barracks in BAMA. He also stated there were police units in KONDUGA, NGANZAI, MAGUMERI, DIKWA and MAFA LGA

Gunmen attacked KUBURVWA Village, 10km from CHIBOK, CHIBOK LGA, BORNO State around 6.30pm burning the village.

Gunmen attacked KWANG Village, ASKIRA UBA LGA, BORNO State around 5.00pm but were repelled by vigilantes from DUGA, one of whom was wounded, troops responded later to pursue and exploit.

Gunmen attacked BOFTARI, CHIBOK LGA 15km from CHIBOK Town burning the village, troops from FOB CHIBOK responded and were ambushed in the vicinity of KUBURMBULA Village, which they cleared and then proceeded to clear BOFTARI, CHIBOK LGA.

27 September

BORNO State Governor Kashim SHETTIMA left BAMA, BORNO State for GWOZA, GWOZA LGA

28 September

COAS Lt Gen BURATAI states that the Army is due to launch Op Rescue Final to recover every Boko Haram abductee, he did not give a time scale or concept of operation

Patrolling troops engaged suspected enemy in the vicinity of BULABULIN, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State in a 1 hour firefight killing 9 enemy and wounding an unspecified number, 2 x AK 47, 2 x hand grenades, 5 x jerrycans of petrol and 9 x motorcycles were captured

Troops supported by vigilantes arrested 3 suspected Boko Haram members (Abba GO DALLAGIO, Abba FANNED and Alhaji NWARIYE) at the cattle market in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State who allegedly came with 200 cows for sale from MAFA for sale for Boko Haram, 23 of which had been identified and isolated, a suspected Boko Haram agent at the market Alhaji Ajid UMAR was also arrested

COAS Lt Gen BURATAI stated that he wanted the military to be involved in human Rights investigations whilst at a seminar on ‘Administration of Military Justice System’ and stated that the Army had established a human rights desk

Hunters engaged suspected Boko Haram members in LASSA, ASKIRA UBA LGA, BORNO State near the ADAMAWA State border, killing 24 and losing 4 killed

01 October

GOC 7 Div Brig Gen Victor EZUGWU presided over the handover of 348 (114 male, 107 women and 127 children) cleared Boko Haram suspect to BORNO Stated Governor Kashim SHETTIMA in Ramat Square Civic Centre, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State

25 September

Gunmen attacked elements of 1 Div, NPF and vigilantes in GODOGODO, KAFANCHAN LGA, KADUNA State, 4 vigilantes were killed and 9 wounded. 6 suspects arrested after the attack was defeated

26 September

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked DOGON FILI, GODOGODO Chiefdom, JEMA’A LGA, KADUNA State around 2.00am killing 2 people

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked DOGON DAJI, GODOGODO Chiefdom, JEMA’A LGA Village killing 3 people and wounding 6 and burning 2 houses in ANTANG

01 October

Elements of 1 Div, conducted aggressive patrols to DANDUME, KANKARA, SABUWA and SAFANA and a joint patrol with NPF to NASHAMBE Village near KAROKI, JIBIA LGA, KATSINA State arresting 3 suspected livestock thieves one of whom was shot and wounded recovering several empty cases of 7.62mm ammunitions, 2 x dane guns, 1 x cutlass, 1 x knife and amulets. 3 suspects were also arrested in JAJAIYE Village, SHINDIFA District, JIBIA LGA, whilst other suspects fled into the forest, 1 x dane gun, 1 x cutlass, 1 x sword, 1 x axe, arrows, 137 x goats and 157 x goats were recovered.

Elements of 1 Div detained several local vigilantes in ANCHAU and KUBAU LGAS, KADUNA State suspected of collaborating with armed bandits in the FALGORE Forest

26 September

Gunmen killed Tyoor Auha ALEV the Traditional Ruler of MBAYONGO District in his palace in VINGIR, KATSINA ALA LGA, BENUE State around 8.00pm

TARABA State has begun immunisation of children at military checkpoints following the discovery of polio in GWOZA and JERE LGA, BORNO State

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked OGEGE Village, OKPALE INGLE Ward, EDUMOGA, OKPOKWU LGA, BENUE State killing a man on his farm with bladed weapon

27 September

Several persons attempted to abduct a Primary Schoolgirl from St Michaels Nursery and Primary school ALIADE, GWER EAST LGA, BENUE State but she was rescued by Vigilantes, who captured one of the suspected kidnappers

28 September

The trial of Salami ABDULLAHI, Musa UMAR and KOGI University Lecturer Nazeef YUNUS on 8 counts of terror related offences was adjourned till 25 October to allow the judge to determine whether their statements were obtained voluntarily after the defendants lawyers stated they had been obtained by ‘oppression’

Suspected cultists killed 2 men at the entrance to BENUE State Polytechnic, UGBOKOLO, OKPOKWU LGA around 8.00pm

30 September

Media reports state that Proforce and DICON has begun production of 9 Ara (Thunder) MRAPs for the Nigeria Army

23 September

Vigilantes from KERAWA engaged suspected Boko Haram in the vicinity of KREDA WALLE between KIRAWA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State and DJIMINI, MAYO SAVA Department killing 2 enemy and capturing 4 and recovering 160 cows and 270 goats. Commander KERWA Vigilantes was killed

26 September

A US FBI team is conducting training on post blast scene investigations for 31 participants from the NPF, Army, Navy, NAF, ONSA and NSCDC

30 September

Gunmen attacked Camerounian military positions at night in the vicinity of DAMBORE-ARDEBE, 13km from FOTOKOL, LOGONE ET CHARI Department killing 1 soldier and wounding 2

01 October

The Nigerien Defence Ministry Spokesman Col Moustapha LEDRU stated that a joint op between CHAD and NIGER had killed 123 enemy since July for the loss of 14 own troops and 39 wounded
