Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

11 September

CJTF Vigilantes in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State captured 2 suspected Boko Haram members from NGURU SOYE, BAMA LGA who allegedly confess to having taken part in the 2014 capture of BAMA and the murder of 35 civilians

A suspected female PBIED approached a VCP at KARA Cattle Market, DIKWA, in the vicinity of ANTUL and MUKDALA, DIKWA LGA, BORNO State and upon refusing to respond to challenges, claiming to be coming from MONGUNO to see her parents in DIKWA, the sentry engaged her and the device detonated killing the bearer and wounding 2 soldiers and a vigilante

UNICEF has brought in $1.3m worth of supplies for IDPS in the North East including essential medicines, health supplies, water purification and female sanitation kits, freight was donated by UNICEF

The BORNO State NSCDC Commander Ibrahim ABDULLAHI stated 800 personnel had deployed to BAGA, DAMBOA, MUNGUNO, DIKWA, MAFA, KONDUGA and NGANZAI LGAs

12 September

13 September

SHEKAU’s Faction of Boko Haram (Jama’atu Ahlus Sunnah Lidda Awati Wal Jihad (JASAWJ)) released a 12 minute 59 second video showing an Hausa speaking presiding over Eid Prayers for a large number of people in a mosque, the unidentified speaker references an absent SHEKAU several times as their leader, threatening President BUHARI, COAS, LT Gen TY BURATAI and Army Spokesman Lt Col SK USMAN

BORNO State Government has awarded a N1.6bn contract for the construction of 9 mega primary schools to provide education to up to 49,000 IDPs

CJTF vigilantes captured an alleged Boko Haram member who had been allegedly extorting money and collecting motorcycles

14 September

Elements of 27 TF Bde conducting a fighting patrol engaged enemy forces mounted on motorcycles in the vicinity of JORORO and TOMBAEJI Villages, GEIDAM LGA, YOBE Sate in a 15 minute firefight early in the morning killing 4 and capturing 1, 2 x PKM, 2 x AK 47 and 144 x 7.62 (AK) rounds were captured as well as 2 x KASEA motorcycles

Ali Sanda Umar KONDUGA (aka AL ZAWAHIRI) former Boko Haram spokesman who was released after completing a 3 year sentence has been rearrested after allegedly attempting to gain entrance to the residence of Senate Majority Leader Mohammed Ali NDUME in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State allegedly to apologise for implicating him as a Boko Haram sponsor. He was denied entry by the gateman, beaten and arrested by the police. His family claim he is mentally unstable and authorities have taken him to a psychiatric hospital

15 September

Gunmen attacked DAMARAM Village, NGANZAI LGA, BORNO State abducting 1 man. Police and CJTF Vigilantes pursued the attackers, freeing the abductee after a firefight recovering a GPMG and 3 x rounds of ammunition. The same unit recovered 150 cattle from cattle rustlers who had attacked GAJIRAM, NGANZAI LGA

DHQ has dismissed the recent Boko Haram video as a ‘desperate and diversionary attempt to remain relevant’ claiming that footage was lifted from a video clip released in 2014

16 September

7 Div has released 366 babies, 149 mothers and 62 youths believed to be family members of insurgents to the BORNO State Governor Kashim SHETTIMA in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State

NAF F-7Ni and Alphajets conducted air strikes on suspected Boko Haram targets in the vicinity of TUMBUN GINI and TUMBUN KAYEWA, ABADAM LGA, BORNO State following intelligence from ISR platforms

Soldiers supported by CJTF Vigilantes conducted an intelligence led search operation in BULABULIN NGARNAM, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State on the outskirts of MAIDUGURI, recovering 3 x boxes of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, 3 x jerrycans of assorted ammunition, 5,998 x 7.62mm (NATO) rounds contained in 2 sacks, 1,760 x 5.56mm rounds, 5 x AK 47 magazines and 1 x FN FAL magazine.

Information Minister Lai MOHAMMED stated that President BUHARI is ready to swap prisoners for the GSS CHIBOK abductees and there had been 3 previous attempts

17 September

The NAF has paraded 6 men accused of stealing weapons at 37 Base Services Group, YOLA, ADAMAWA State, an FN FAL, Tavor, Browning 9mm, double barrel shotgun and 37 x 9mm rounds were recovered.

Maj Gen Lucky IRABOR conducted the first 7 Div, Town Hall meeting in MAIDUGURI, in which he suggested that a Truth and Reconciliation Commission should be set up to review the issues in the North East

Situation North West (Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States)

11 September

Gunmen attacked GOLKOFA Village, GODOGODO District, JEMA’A LGA, KADUNA State killing a man who had returned to the village from GIDAN WAYA (where all the townspeople fled after earlier attacks) to tend to his livestock

An alleged kidnapper known as DAN NA’ALA who was allegedly  responsible for the death of a vigilante in KAKURI was arrested in NYANYA, ABUJA, FCT and brought back to MAKERA, KAKURI, KADUNA SOUTH LGA, KADUNA State where he was attacked by an angry mob, unfortunately dying from his injuries

14 September

Elements of 223 Bn, 1 Bde, 1 Div raided a suspected bandits camp in DUMBURUM Forest, ZURMI LGA, ZAMFARA State, killing 7 suspect in a firefight and recovering arms and ammunition and military style uniforms.

Troops cleared suspected bandit camps in the vicinity of BAGEGA, ANKA LGA, ZAMFARA State as well as BARUBA Village, BUKKUYUM LGA killing 8 in a firefight and occupied KALGO, MARU LGA in order to pursue bandits who attacked the village

15 September

KANO State Police command arrested 2 suspected armed robbers along ABDULLAHI BAYERO Road, KANO with 2 x knives and mobile phones

Situation North Centre (Abuja FCT, Bauchi, Benue, Gombe Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Taraba States)

14 September

NPF BENUE State arraigned 3 suspects at MAKURDI Upper Area Courts with criminal conspiracy, kidnapping and robbery

5 suspected armed robbers attacked SENGA Village, KATSINA ALA LGA, BENUE State. 2 of the robbers were apprehended and lynched by local villagers as well as a lady who allegedly harboured them, 3 escaped to GBISHE Village, from where they returned but were reportedly unable to regain entry so laid ambush at the next village KAVENGER murdering 10 people and wounding 5

11 September

A Camerounian military vehicle on routine patrol detonated an IED in the vicinity of DJIBRILI, MAYO TSANAGA Department wounding 6 soldiers

12 September

Gunmen ambushed Nigerien forces in the vicinity of TOUMOUR Village, DIFFA Region resulting in 5 friendly and 30 enemy killed, 6 friendly wounded and 2 enemy captured

Nigerien and Chadian troops began operations between GUESKEROU and TOUMOUR in DIFFA Region, NIGER Republic

14 September

Nigerien and Chadian forces completed operations in the vicinity of GUESKEROU and TOUMOUR claiming 38 enemy killed and 2 friendly wounded.

Gunmen attacked FUESKEROU, DIFFA REGION, 30km from DIFFA at night stealing food and medicine and burning houses

Rosoboronexport has announced it will deliver 12 x MI 35 Attack Helicopters to NIGERIA by 2018

15 September

Gunmen attacked SANDA WADJIRI, MAYO SAVA Department at night wounding 2 civilians and abducting 2 others

Approximately 30 gunmen from KALABALGUE (KALA BALGE LGA, NIGERIA??) attacked GOULMA and KABO Villages, LOGONE ET CHARI Department along Route Nationale 1, killing 4 civilians, stealing 2 bags of rice and burning 2 trucks and wounding one soldier who reportedly singlehandedly defended the convoy killing 1 attacker ones

17 September

The 2 abductees from SANDA WADJIRI were found dead in the morning in ZAMGA, MAYO TSANAGA Department
