Approximately 20 gunmen mounted on bicycles attacked SHAWA Village, ASKIRA UBA LGA, BORNO State with small arms around 4.00am stealing 6 bicycles and burning the village

UNHCR and American University of NIGERIA has trained 450 IDPs in BORNO State under a skills acquisition scheme

23 August

Troops based in DARUL  JAMEL, BORNO State were ambushed in the vicinity of BANKI Junction, BAMA LGA. Gunmen later attacked DARUL JAMEL around 10.00pm with small arms and RPGs losing several killed reportedly including commanders and 1 x PKM, 1 x AK 47, 1 x RPG round, 395 x 7.62mm (NATO) and 15 x 7.62mm (AK) ammunition

24 August

An explosion in DAMATURU, YOBE State killed a welder and wounded a soldier and civilian. The soldier (from 27 TF Bde in GONIRI) had brought a pipe to be welded onto his vehicles radio antennae when the explosion occurred. NPF EOD are investigating the cause.

25 August

The NSCDC arrested a man in DALA, MAIDUGURI for allegedly kidnapping raping a 13 year old IDP from CHIBOK from DALORI Camp in a reported 2 day attack

IDPs protested in MAIDUGURI over lack of food, drugs and clothing

27 August

Gunmen attacked elements of 153Bn patrolling in the vicinity of ALA LUMSHE, MARTE LGA, BORNO State, 4km from MARTE, the attack as repelled with support from NAF Alphajets

21 Bde, has set up a temporary school in BAMA, BAMA LGA, BORNO State for 3,000 pupils based in 6 x military tents, with soldiers and IDPs acting as teachers. UNICEF donated 2 further tents and school bags

Gunmen murdered a man inn LIGALI, near GONIN-GORA Village, CHIKUN LGA, KADUNA State around 2.00am

21 August

The SOKOTO State Government is to partner with the US Government to expand access to education and promote SMEs

Suspected nomadic gunmen murdered a RCCG Pastor in UNGUWAN ANJO Village, near GODOGODO, JEMA’A LGA, KADUNA State, whilst he was returning from GOLKOFA Village on a motorcycle

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked NINGON 6km from GWANTU, SANGA LGA, KADUNA State killing 2 men and wounding 1 around 8.45pm

22 August

A mob attacked a student of ABDU GUSAU Polytechnic, TALATA MAFARA, TALATA MAFARA LGA, ZAMFARA State, who was accused of blasphemy. The student was rescued by a good Samaritan who infuriating the mob who burnt his house killing the student and 7 other people. A 7.00am – 7.00pm curfew has been imposed

The DSS stated it had arrested several suspected terrorists. On 8 July Mukhtar TIJANI, Isiaku SALIHU, Abdullahi ISAH and Hindu ISAH were arrested in KINKINAU, UNGUWAR MU’AZU, KADUNA, KADUNA State whilst allegedly conducting hostile reconnaissance for attacks in the state. On 17 July Mudaisiru JIBRIN (aka NAMAKELE/ ALARAMA) was arrested in KANO, KANO State who allegedly planned the attack on GSS MAMUDO, POTISKUM LGA, YOBE State in 2013. On 12 August 3 suspected Ansaru members Usman ABDULLAHI, Abdulmumuni SADIO and Ahmad SALIHU from a cell in KOGI State were arrested in AUCHI, ETSAKO WEST LGA, EDO State allegedly preparing to attack targets in EDO and KOGI States and then flee to Daesh in LIBYA. The DSS stated that they arrested a suspected cattle rustler Abdullahi HARUNA (aka DOUGLAS) on 13 August in HAYIN BUBA, GUSAU LGA, ZAMFARA State. The suspect was allegedly spying on the security forces whilst disguised as a bread seller for a wanted cattle rustler known as ‘BUHARI GENERAL’. On 29 July The DSS arrested a suspected member of the gang Hafizu SANI who was allegedly spying on security forces in ZAMFARA State who led to the arrest of Hussaini Alhaji SULE (aka YELLOW) in ALIERO, ALIERO LGA, KEBBI State. The ‘BUHARI GENERAL’ gang allegedly operated as cattle rustlers and kidnappers in KADUNA, KATSINA and ZAMFARA State.

23 August

Gunmen mounted in a Toyota Sienna abducted Ibrahim SAMAILA/ISMAIL (the member for TUDUN WADA Constituency, KANO State House of Assembly) from his house in ABAPKA, KADUNA NORTH LGA, KADUNA State around 9.00m, subsequently requesting N70m in ransom from his family

20 August

TARABA State Police Command arrested 4 suspected armed robbers who were apprehended by vigilantes along SANSANI-NAFADA Road, BALI LGA. 2 x single barrel weapons were recovered.

21 August

Elements of 33 Bde conducted a fighting patrol to DUTSEN MAIRAMA, in the vicinity of DOGON RUWA in the LAME/ BURRA Forest, TORO and NINGI LGA, BAUCHI State engaging suspected kidnappers, killing 3 and destroying their camp.

22 August

The DSS stated they detained 3 members of Terwase AGWAZA’s (aka GHANA) gang (Terfa JIRGBA Terzungee KWAGHAONDO and Mathias AENDE) at BADAGRY Street, MAKURDI, BENUE State on 8th August on suspicion of kidnapping and other crimes, another alleged AGWAZA accomplice was arrested in PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS State on 16 August who allegedly negotiated for a N4m ransom for 2 Indian nationals abducted on 29 July in MAKURDI and allegedly murdered a man in GBOKO on 1st August

23 August

A demonstration by final year students at the FIDEI Polytechnic, GBOKO, GBOKO LGA, BENUE State over exclusion from exams due to non payment of fees was disrupted by policemen with small arms and tear gas who allegedly opened fire killing 1 and fatally wounding another student. The students and suspected thugs allegedly from the ‘Shawa’ gang retaliated wounding 2 policemen and leading to the deaths of 2 students and 2 policemen and the wounding of 1 student. The institutions bakery, bursary, ranch and pen house were damaged as well as 5 vehicles and one police vehicle. 21 people have reportedly been arrested

24 August

Elements of 33 Bde from FOB TORO, TORO LGA, BAUCHI State arrested 2 suspected kidnappers in BADIKO Village along GUMAU Road TORO LGA, recovering N439,000.00 in suspected ransom. Another suspect was detained at MAGAMA Village, TORO LGA, who had allegedly escaped from JENGE in the LAME BURRA Forest following military operations there. Soldiers at a checkpoint known as KANO 2, in the vicinity of DURUM, BAUCHI LGA arrested a suspected armed bandit with 8  x 7.62mm (AK) rounds, 2 x mobile phones and amulets

BENUE State Security Council has announced a N5m reward for anyone with information leading to the arrest of former Amnesty Committee Chairman Terwase AKWAZA (aka GHANA) who is wanted for kidnapping, armed robbery and murder

25 August

The NIGERIA Prisons Service Comptroller General Ja’afar AHMED stated that the NPS had reopened satellite prisons in ALKALERI, BURRA, DARAZO, KATAGUM, SHIRA, TAFAWA BALEWA and TORO in BAUCHI State on 15 August. An 8th unnamed prison was also opened and a 9th in GAMAWA was still undergoing renovation

27 August

Approximately 3 gunmen attacked a house in TAURA Village, DINYA, GASSOL LGA, TARABA State around 7.30pm with small arms shooting 7 people from the same family

Commander Op Safe Haven has banned the use of commercial tricycles from 9.00pm to 5.00am due to an increase in crime in JOS, PLATEAU State and to banning the use of motorcycles in JOS completely

A male PBIED mounted on a motorcycle detonated in the market in MORA, MAYO SAVA Department killing 4 and wounding 24

23 August

US Secretary of State John KERRY arrived in NIGERIA, meeting President BUHARI, praising military successes but cautioning against a purely military solution. Further military cooperation was discussed with ‘strong commitments’ of further military aid reportedly made by KERRY. President BUHARI thanked the US for assistance with intelligence, training and equipment. He then visited the Sultan of SOKOTO Muhammadu Sa’ad ABUBAKAR III, in SOKOTO, SOKOTO State (who is also the President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs) where he urged Nigerians to transcend ‘religions, ethnicities and all kinds of moral codes’ by practising tolerance and acceptance’

Approximately 40 gunmen attacked TCHAKAMARI, MAYO SAVA Department but were defeated by Camerounian forces who lost 1 dead

24 August

A 16 year old suspected Boko Haram member was arrested by vigilantes in TOLKOMARI Village, MAYO SAVA Department he was allegedly a native of the town who had joined Boko Haram 2 years ago

27 August

An IED detonated under a Chadian military vehicle in the vicinity of KAIGA KINDJI, CHAD near the Nigerien border killing 4 soldiers and wounding 12
