The COAS has confirmed the Army has been placed on high alert following media reports of intelligence assessments that Boko Haram attacks are imminent, in the FCT, LAGOS, KANO, SOKOTO, KEBBI, IMO, BAUCHI, KATSINA, YOBE and BORNO States, targeting markets, schools, police stations and military installations as well as prison facilities in ADAMAWA State and newly reopened schools in BORNO and YOBE States

A detained Boko Haram suspect Lawan ABBAI provided information to troops or a route clearance operation in GOMBORI, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State in which 2 large pressure plate IEDs were found and neutralised. 4 suspects claiming they wished to surrender were detained however we’re identified by ABBAI as members of an IED cell. 5 women and a baby were also liberated during the operation

NEMA reunited 200 children aged 5-12, mostly from BAMA and BAGA LGA’s with their parents in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State. NEMA states that there are 165 unaccompanied children in 4 camps ADAMAWA State

13 August

Boko Haram has released a video showing at least 50 girls alleged to be the GSS CHIBOK abductees. A masked Hausa speaking gunman claiming to be SHEKAU’s successor asked the Federal Government to release Boko Haram fighters from prison and claimed some of the abductees had been killed in air strikes, 40 were married and others injured

93 NSCDC personnel completed a 2 week Army weapon handling course at MAIMALARI Cantonment, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State

The NAF element of Op Yaki in KADUNA State has recovered 665 cows and 141 sheep from cattle rustlers in KAMUKU Forest BIRNIN GWARI LGA

12 August

An intelligence led combined 35Bn, 3 Bde, 1 Div and NSCDC operation along TSAMBE-FAFARE ROAD, JIBIA LGA, KATSINA State as part of Op Sharan Daji engaged 3 motorcycle mounted gunmen were heading towards DUMBURU Forest in ZAMFARA State, with 1 killed and 2 escaping wounded, 1 x AK 47 with magazine and 2 x 7.62mm (AK) rounds were recovered. Another joint unit conducted raids along FASKARI-SHEME-MAIRUWA Road, FASKARI LGA, KATSINA State detaining 3 suspected cattle rustlers and recovering 49 cattle and 25 sheep

KADUNA State Government disbanded all vigilante groups in the state and brought them under a new vigilante Committee

Approximately 20 gunmen mounted in 6 x Toyota Hiluxes abducted a lawyer Terfa JIRGBA and 2 of his relatives from his house in BADAGRY Street, MAKURDI, BENUE State

The NPF state that the 2 Chinese workers abducted in NASARAWA State were released at 6.30pm, ‘due to pressure from SARS, MOPOL and vigilantes’ it is unclear if a ransom was paid

Gunmen attacked DIKKO Police Station, GAWO BABANGIDA LGA, NIGER State around 9.0pm killing 3 policemen and stealing 2 x AK 47s, 1 x pistol and 60 x rounds of ammunition

Youths protesting against the arrest of some of their kinsmen in UMOMI Village, OFU LGA, KOGI State after they were accused of cattle rustling as part of an ongoing dispute with herdsmen allege they were shot at by policemen from UGWOLAWO Division killing 2 youths

Senator Isa Hamma MISAU (APC, BAUCHI Central) stated that Boko Haram had set up a base in BURRA Forest in NINGI Emirate Council, NINGI LGA which links the FALGORE Forest in KANO State with SAMINAKA, KADUNA State and have been conducting kidnaps for ransoms of N3-5m.

Approximately 7 gunmen ambushed a vehicle carrying an APC politician from ABUJA along OKENE-LOKOJA-ABUJA Road, in the vicinity of OSARA, ADAVI LGA, KOGI State abducting him and 3 people in another vehicle. The politician’s driver was released

TARABA State Police Command stated that they had arrested 4 suspected cattle thieves and recovered 142 cattle and 26 sheep following a firefight during an intelligence led raid supported by The Tabital Pulaaku Vigilance Group in SERTI, GASHAKA LGA

The US pledged $37m aid for Boko Haram victims in the Lake CHAD Basin

The UK High Commission has warned against travel to BORNO, YOBE, ADAMAWA, BAUCHI and GOMBE States as well as KANO City, the riverine areas of DELTA, BYELSA, RIVERS, AKWA IBOM and CROSS RIVER State and the Nigerien border area of ZAMFARA State
