Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

10 April

Elements of 115 TF Bn patrolled towards NIMILA Village, BORNO State rescuing 14 hostages, recovering 3 x dane guns, 3 x motorcycles and 2 x mobile phones

11 April

BORNO State government stated it had produced a post conflict plan for the Civilian JTF, including 500-1,000 as Fire fighters, 500 as Vehicle Inspection Officers, whilst graduates absorbed into the Civil Service and a large proportion recruited into the Army

12 April

Elements of 152 TF Bn and 155 TF Bn with Camerounian elements of Sector 1 MNJTF, conducted clearance operations in the vicinity of NBAGA, BULA, DABUBE YBIRI, BULLA JAJA, BULA BURRA, SHATTE, GREYA and SUDUWA Towns, BAMA LGA, BORNO State killing 22 enemy and capturing 3 Amirs named as Lawa ABBA (SHATTE), Mallam HISNA (BULLA JAJA) and Mallam GANA (BULA BURRA). 1,275 hostages were rescued by 152 TF Bn

13 April

Boko Haram released a 2 minute video featuring 15 of the GSS CHIBOK abductees. Prompted by the cameraman they introduce themselves ‘by names their parents would know’. Parents of the girls identified 3 of them, the video was allegedly produced 25 December 2015. One of the children at the end made a request for the government to negotiate

14 April

Camerounian media state a Nigerian military vehicle detonated an IED along the KUMSHE- BANKI Road killing 10 and wounding 11 soldiers

15 April

Gunmen mounted on 5 x trucks and motorcycles attacked 121 TF Bn positions in the vicinity of PULKA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State with 2 x VBIEDs and small arms from SAMBISA Forest, the attack was defeated killing 7 enemy, capturing 4 x AK 47, 3 x AK 47 magazines, 92 x 7.62mm (NATO) link no friendly casualties.

Elements of Army HQ Strike Group and the CJTF conducted a fighting patrol towards WULGE and WALAMARI, BORNO State based on intelligence from a suspected Boko Haram spy captured near 3 Bn HQ in GAMBORU NGALA, NGALA LGA, BORNO State who stated he was sent from WULGE. The patrol cleared 12 enemy camps killing 27 enemy, capturing 5 motorcycles an 8 bicycles, 1 x AK 47 and 1 x Dane gun. 455 IDPs were rescued and 1 x vigilante killed

Elements of 103 Bn ambushed the enemy at MAIRIMRI Village, BORNO State killing several enemy, capturing 15 bicycles and foodstuffs

16 April

Elements of 7 Div Strike Group Team B and 22 TF Bde raided suspected enemy bases in BIGGORO, WARPAYA and AURA to the north of KUMSHE, BAMA LGA, BORNO State at dawn, discovering treetop OPs and underground food storage facilities. 2 enemy were killed, 1 x AK 47, 1 x G3, 1x PK, 3 x AK 47 magazines, 2 x G3 magazines, 2 x HE grenades, ammunition and 2 x motorcycles recovered. 2 children were rescued.

The Director Defence Information Col Rabe ABUBAKAR stated that a rehabilitation camp for repentant Boko Haram members had been opened

The COAS Lt Gen TY BURATAI declared the 132km DAMATURU-BIU Road open after 3 years at a ceremony at BUNI YADI, GUJBA LGA, YOBE State

Situation North West (Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States)

11 April

Media reports state that 3 NIGERIA Immigration Service (NIS) Air Border Patrol Division ISR aircraft had been abandoned in KADUNA, KADUNA State. 1 x Dornier Do228 (5N AUW), was last declared airworthy in 2013 and has not flown since, another Do228 (5N-AUZ) equipped with Long Range Observation Systems and Thermal Imaging. A third Do228 (5N-AUY), had apparently had is ISR equipment removed. No official explanation has been given as to why the aircraft were abandoned.

The Secretary to the KADUNA State Government Balarabe LAWAL testified that 347 people were killed during the clashes between IMN and the Army in ZARIA, KADUNA State and buried in mass graves on 14 December 2015 in the MANDO Area of ZARIA, at the Public Hearing of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry. 191 corpses were taken from the NIGERIA Army Depot, ZARIA in 3 military trucks and 156 from AHMADU BELLO University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), ZARIA in 5 Mercedes trucks. IMN responded by stating that the numbers only amounted to half of their missing members.

12 April

2 men were arrested at NGWAN SUNDAY, CHIKUN LGA, KADUNA State after allegedly trying to kidnap a minor

13 April

A man suspected of trying to abduct a 4 year old boy in BARNAWA, KADUNA SOUTH LGA, KADUNA State by allegedly putting him in a sack on his tricycle was burnt alive by a mob

Elements of 1 Div on Op Sharan Daji cleared bandit camps in RAFE and AJAH Forest, GUSAU LGA, ZAMFARA State killing 4 suspects and capturing 5 x AK 47, 11 x AK 47 magazines, 205 x 7.62mm (AK) and 25 x 7.62mm (NATO). In a joint operation, elements of 1 Div arrested 17 suspected cattle rustlers who allegedly escape from ZAMFARA State were arrested in FASKARI LGA, KATSINA State, with 930 cattle, 210 sheep and 20 machetes captured

14 April

KADUNA State Police arrested a suspected cattle rustler Tukur USMAN recovering 71 cattle and 38 sheep

15 April

KADUNA State Police stated that 458 suspected criminals had been arrested in the state in the last 10 days, including 27 suspected kidnappers, including the suspected kidnappers of the TEKAN pastors

 

KADUNA State Police have detained 6 suspected kidnappers in RIGASA, IGABI LGA and captured a dane gun and several rounds of ammunition, 1 in KAFANCHAN, JEMA’A LGA,, with a locally made pistol, 3 others in MARABAN JOS, IGABI LGA, 1 in JERE LGA, 3 caught in the act in SABON TASHA and 8 in relation to the abduction of the TEKAN Pastors and another 3 in relation to the abduction of the Director of Dangote Group. Recovered were 1 x AK 47, 16 x rounds of ammunition, 1 x motorcycle, 3 x photos of the victims and Nigerian and foreign currency

16 April

IMN members held coordinated processions in KANO, KANO State, AZARE, BAUCHI State, GOMBE, GOMBE State, GUSAU, ZAMFARA State, BIRNIN KEBBI, KEBBI State and KADUNA, KADUNA State demanding the release of their leader and other members.

Situation North Centre (Abuja FCT, Bauchi, Benue, Gombe Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Taraba States)

10 April

2 gunmen killed an Okada rider in MAKURDI, BENUE State and stole his motorcycle

Approximately 20 suspected Fulani gunmen attacked DORI and MESUMA Villages, GARBABI Ward, GASHAKA LGA, TARABA State around 11.00am killing 8 people in DORI and 7 in MESUMA, burning several properties, causing locals to flee to MAYO SELBE and SABON GIDA Villages. 40 MOPOL were deployed from YOLA, ADAMAWA State, arresting a suspect Ardo Ayba ILIYASU, who was accused of gathering people prior to the attack at GARBABI Village

11 April

The ONSA launched the ‘De radicalisation Programme Guide’ which emphasised a ‘soft approach’ to COIN derived from the Countering Violent Extremism programme. The programme is part of the EU Technical Assistance to NIGERIA’s Evolving Security Challenges. The EU Delegation Deputy Head stated that 67m Euros had been allocated to the rehabilitation and reintegration of captured Boko Haram suspects

Suspected Fulani gunmen attacked ANGAI and NDOLE Villages, GASHAKA LGA killing 44 people and some livestock

12 April

Amnesty International has called for the protection of the mass burial site of people killed in the ZARIA Incident and a full forensic investigation.

13 April

The DSS states it has arrested Bello DANHAJIYA (ZAMFARA State), reportedly an associate (and/ or second in command) of Khalid AL BARNAWI. DANHAJIYA allegedly undertook gun running, cattle rustling and other crimes on behalf of AL BARNAWI. When and where he was arrested was not specified

3 people were killed and 1 injured in a and dispute between 2 families in ANGWAN MAMMAN and DADERE Village, OBI LGA, NASARAWA State over farmland

Armed robbers attacked a house in OKABO Village, OFU LGA, KOGI State, the police responded killing 2 and recovering 4 rounds of ammunition, an unknown number escaped

14 April

Maj Gen Tagbo UDE, Commander Op Safe Haven addressed a meeting of community leaders from RIYOM, BARKIN LADI, JOS SOUTH and MANGU LGA and stated that movement of cattle after 7.00pm in PLATEAU State is now banned

The TARABA State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association stated 50 of its members had been killed in conflict between Ndoro and Fulani in GASHAKA LGA, TARABA State and that 3,000 cattle had been killed

16 April

NASARAWA State Police arrested 2 suspected cattle rustlers, recovering 3 x AK 47, 127 x rounds, 2 z military type uniforms, 2 x masks, 11 x mobile phones, 2 x motorcycles, charms, cutlasses, 106 cattle and 20 sheep in AWE LGA, NASARAWA State following tip off. 4 x suspected armed robbers were arrested robbing people along JOS-AKWANGA Road, recovering 30 x SIM cards, 2 x mobile phones, 2 x machetes , 1 x iron cutter and 15 x wrappers worth N90,000.00. A 6 person gang operating along KEFFI-ABUJA Road was also arrested.

Situation External (Rest of the World)

11 April

Camerounian soldiers and vigilantes conducted clearance operations in SARARAM, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region killing 2 enemy capturing 2 x motorcycles and 9 x bags of millet

A suspected Boko Haram member Mahamat BOUKAR was arrested in MINAWO Refugee Camp, after being identified by Nigerian refugees

13 April

Vigilantes from GOREE, ALGOUTHOUN and BARGARAM, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, report that suspected Boko Haram fighters are concentrating in KAMOUNA and MOURDASS, HILE ALIFA Arrondissement, LOGONE ET CHARI Department arriving by canoe and then motorcycle from SAGUIR, NIGERIA

15 April

The UK government will donate £32m through the UN, ICRC and other humanitarian organisations to deliver assistance to 7m people.

16 April

A suspected Boko Haram member was arrested by Camerounian Police in MINAWAO Refugee Camp after being recognised and was taken to MAROUA
