Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

04 April

Elements of 22 Bde Garrison and Army HQ Strike Group, supported by CJTF vigilantes conducted a fighting patrol towards BOBOSHE, GARNA, KYARE, KADAWU, GINEBA and AJIRI, DIKWA LGA, BORNO State, capturing an abandoned IED factory in a primary School in BOBOSHE, recovering 8 x industrial cylinders, 5 x domestic gas cylinders, IED components and 1 x pick up truck. In KADAWU, 3 suspected enemy were captured and 4 x motorcycles, 3 x bicycles, 1 x solar panel and 2 x liquid herbicides were recovered. In GARNA, 3 suspected enemy were captured with 7 x dane guns

Elements of 152 TF Bn and Sector 1, MNJTF conducted clearance operations in the vicinity of MADAWAYA, BAMA LGA, BORNO State, clearing JERE, KARDILE, KOUJILI, NGENERE, MAKSAMARI, DOUSE, BEMBEM, ZOMBULUM and TARAJI Villages. At BULA UMARA Village an IED making facility was captured and 15 enemy killed, 1 x AK 47, 4 x AK magazines, 2 x generators, welding machines, batteries, solar panels and several vehicle and motorcycles were captured. 275 hostages were released, one of whom gave birth.

BORNO State NSCDC stated they had arrested 1 man for suspected electricity cable theft and another for theft and attempted murder in the JIDARI POLO Area of MAIDUGURI

The UN plans to move its Humanitarian Centre to MAIDUGURI, BORNO State from ABUJA, FCT

05 April

DHQ has established a rehabilitation camp for Boko Haram members who surrender. Named Op Safe Corridor, surrendered fighters will receive vocational training

06 April

The COAS Lt Gen TY BURATAI stated the NIGERIA Army Aviation Corps would be operational before the end of the current administration whilst at the 2016 First Quarter COAS Conference in ABUJA, FCT, with the first batch of 10 pilots completing training at the International Helicopter Flying School, ENUGU, ENUGU State in May 2016 and 20 aviation technicians had completed a 6month refresher course and stated they were assessing Mi 17 (Support), H -125 Fennec (Scout/light Attack), Rooivalk (Attack) and a wish list of Russian, American and Chinese platforms that had been presented to military authorities.

DHQ states that 11, 595 hostages have been rescued from Boko Haram in March 2016

DHQ states that up to 800 Boko Haram members have surrendered in the last 3 weeks

The NIGERIA Army Corps of Engineers unveiled the Rechargeable Blasting Device (a power source for controlled detonations of IEDs and UXO), made locally with local materials. R&D reportedly took 4 months and the production costs are N140,000, whilst the imported equivalent was N700,000.

08 April

2 x female PBIED approached a vigilante checkpoint in JIMINI- BOLORI Village, JERE LGA, BORNO State around 5.15am and refused to comply with instructions to halt and were shot and killed

Elements of 101 Bn acting on intelligence intercepted 2 suspected PBIEDs attempting to infiltrate through CASHEW Planation at MADIYARI Village, JERE LGA, BORNO State around 4.00am, 3 soldiers were wounded and 2 devices made safe

2 x women and 1 x 16 year old boy were arrested on suspicion of providing support to Boko Haram in NWAGAFETE Village, near MAIDUGURI, BORNO State

09 April

Media reports state that Boko Haram requested N10bn as ransom for the GSS CHIBOK abductees about 3 months ago and released a proof of life video showing 15 of the girls

The NDLEA seized 10.6kg of high grade heroin (valued at N200m) in Malam Aminu Kano Airport, KANO, KANO State that had been checked onto an Ethiopian Airline flight from MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE, hidden in 8 water pumps. They also seized 22kg of Methamphetamine (valued at N60m) and 71kg of Ephedrine (valued at N70m) hidden in cartons of irons, hair attachments and slippers destined for MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE at an unspecified date

02 April

KADUNA State Governor Nasir EL RUFAI stated that a new Islamic sect known as Gausiyya based in MAKARFI LGA, KADUNA State had been disrupted by the Security Forces

The IMN released a statement denying it planned to link up with Boko Haram to fight the Nigerian government

The IGP Solomon ARASE has order the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 7 (FCT, NIGER and KADUNA States) Ballah NASARAWA to redeploy to KADUNA State to address the rise in kidnappings

NPF in KADUNA State have freed two people who were abducted along KADUNA-ABUJA Expressway and the Anti Crime Patrol Team arrested 15 suspected kidnappers in KABALA WEST, KADUNA SOUTH LGA. One gang of 3 were arrested in GIDAN BUSA Village, JERE, KAGARKO LGA, KADUNA State who attempted to abduct a woman along the Expressway. One was arrested in relation to the abduction of a Director in the KADUNA State Civil Service. 2 x AK47, locally made weapons and ammunition, foreign and local currency were recovered

The KADUNA State Police Command declared a state of emergency in relation to the rise of kidnapping in the State

The KADUNA State Government has extended the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the IMN/ Army incident in ZARIA by 4 weeks at the request of the Commission Chairman in order to allow the IMN to submit its memorandum

06 April

Elements of 3 Bde on Op Salama intercepted and destroyed 80 bags of fish in HADEJA LGA, JIGAWA State, suspected to have been poisoned by Boko Haram in BAGA, BORNO State and brought into the state. 11 suspects were arrested, N80,000.00 and 11 mobile phones seized

07 April

112 cows and 33 sheep were recovered from a suspected rustler’s camp in ADO Village, along ABUJA-KEFFI Road on the NASARAWA/ KADUNA State

KADUNA State Police arrested 3 men suspected of kidnapping the TEKAN Pastors

4 gunmen abducted a singer Dauda Adamu KAHUTU (aka RARARA) near his house behind SAHAD Store, along ZOO Road, KANO, KANO State, stealing N2.8m and his car as ransom and abandoning him in TUDUN FULANI near DARMANAWA Quarters, KANO

Femi FALANA IMN Leader Sheik Ibrahim EL ZAKZAKY informed the press that his client had been severely injured during the raid on his compound and wrote a letter on 5 April demanding his unconditional release as he had not been charged to court

Vigilantes arrested a suspected Boko Haram member named NABA in KERAWA, MAYO SAVA Department in the morning

Camerounian forces from Sector 1, MNJTF supported by 152 Bn stated they have captured over 300 suspected Boko Haram and freed up to 2,000 attacked WALASSA, 35 km north of KUMSHE, in a 3 day operation clearing 17 villages, destroying a logistics and training facility.

The Chief of LTALAKOSSA, MAYO SAVA Department who was abducted by Boko Haram 30/31 March returned to his village

The UN Assistant Secretary and Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Sahel Region, Toby LANZER visited KONDUGA, KONDUGA LGA and BAMA, BAMA LGA, BORNO State and stated $200m had been allocated for development projects in the Northeast

3 x PBIEDs crossed the KOMADOUGOU River and boarded a bus heading to market near BOSSO, DIFFA Region, NIGER Republic detonating and killing 3 people and wounding several others.

09 April

Gunmen attacked a 42eme BIM position in the vicinity of TOLKOMARI, MAYO SAVA Department at night but were repelled

Gunmen attacked GOREALGOUTHOUN Village, HILE ALIFA Arrondissement, LOGONE ET CHARI Department at night killing 4 people, wounding 4 and burning the village
