Situation North East (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States)

06 March

The BORNO State Government stated it had employed up to 4,300 health workers including 158 doctors, 1,094 nurses and midwives, 29 laboratory scientists, 150 lab technicians, 250 community health assistants and 12 pharmacists

The NDLEA arrested 13 suspected drug dealers in BORNO State IDP Camps

07 March

Gunmen attacked BITA, GWOZA LG, BORNO State around 11.30pm with small arms, but were repelled after a prolonged firefight lasting till the next day with support by NAF aircraft.

A suspected Boko Haram member Umaru MUKTAR (22 years old, GONGE, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State) was paraded by police in SARS, MAGBON, ABEOKUTA, OGUN State. He was arrested in KARA MOWE, OGUN State on 25 February after escaping from BORNO State

08 March

Gunmen attacked 121 TF Bn positions in PULKA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State, they were defeated losing 17 killed and 12 x AK 47, 1 x GPMG, 1 x 50cal Browning HMG, 1 x Toyota Hilux, 1 x 60mm Mortar, 4 x 60mm mortar bombs, 1 x 12.7mm ammunition belts, 9 x 12.7mm (NATO) ammunition belts, 3 x hand grenades and 7 x boxes of 12.7mm ammunition.

Gunmen attacked GAMBORU, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State but were repelled

Gunmen attacked 114 TF Bn in the vicinity of BITA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State from SAMBISA Forest along the DAMBOA-TOKUMBERE-PULKA axis losing 2 killed and several wounded

Brig Gen MSA ALIYU 3 Div GOC and Chief of Army Training and Operations Maj Gen Yusha’u ABUBAKAR, were in a road traffic accident along MAIDUGURI-DAMATURU Road, Gen ABUBAKAR was killed and Gen ALIYU was injured.

Elements of 121 TF Bn supported by NAF Mi 35 AH following, Alpha jets air strikes cleared enemy camps in IZA, BAMA LGA, BORNO State. A Beechcraft provided ISR overwatch and communications.

09 March

A Vigilante Commander in ADAMAWA State Young MORRIS has been arrested in NGUORE Village, YOLA SOUTH LGA on suspicion of gun running, following a Police undercover operation, in which a female gun runner in TARABA State identified MORRIS in NUMAN and one other in GANYE LGA as illegal arms dealers. MORRIS claims to have been selling captured ammunition in order to maintain his s operational vehicle

The World Food Programme intends to give 70,000 IDPS food and cash transfers over the next 6 months in BORNO State

Gunmen attacked 26 and 28 Bde positions in PULKA and BITA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State near the SAMBISA Forest losing 16 killed, friendly forces captured 1 x prisoner, 11 x AK47, 3 x GPMG, 1 x 50cal Browning HMG, 2 x Toyota Hilux, 1 x 60mm mortar, 7 x boxes of 12.7mm rounds and 1 x belt of 12.7mm rounds. No friendly casualties were reported

10 March

1 x male PBIED disguised as a welder detonated in KATARKO Town, GUJBA LGA, YOBE State around 12.45pm wounding 3 soldiers from 27 TF Bde and 2 civilians. The susect was reprtedly recognised by local vigilantes

Elements of 7 Bde (MNJTF) QRG and 118 TF Bn ambushed an enemy supply route in the vicinity of DABAN MASARA, KUKAWA LGA, BORNO State fatally wounding a gunman suspected of being number 95 on the wanted list. Also captured were 7 x 30 litre jerrycans of petrol, motorcycles, arms and ammunition and foodstuffs

The BORNO State NSCDC seized a fuel tanker containing 60,000 litres of petrol and 225 x 25 litres of petrol in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State

Soldiers freed 67 hostages (1 man, 22 women and 44 children) and took them to KUKARETA Village IDP Camp, DAMATURU LGA, YOBE State

11 March

Elements of 118 TF Bn, 7 Bde engaged gunmen in MA’ALA Village, KUKAWA LGA, BORNO State killing 1 x Boko Haram member and capturing one other and rescuing a 3 year old girl. Also captured were 1 x AK47, 3 x AK 47 magazines, 1 x HP Laptop, 2 x Externa hard Drives, 1 x pair of military and NPF uniform, 1 x Camelbak, 3 x mini solar cells, assorted charms, fishing nets and soldering irons

Elements of 7 Bde QRF conducted a fighting patrol towards DABAN MASARA and KEKENO, KUKAWA LGA engaging the enemy mounted on 3 x motorcycles, killing 2 and capturing 2 x AK 47, 3 x motorcycles, 1 x tear gas grenade, 4 x mobile phones, bathroom slipprs, food flasks, plastic cups and other sundry items

12 March

DHQ states that elements of 81 Bn ambushed the enemy at a suspected crossing point from SAMBISA Forest near KOMALA and MUSAFANARI Villages, BORNO State. The enemy abandoned 1 x Toyota pickup and 28 x bags of groundnuts

DHQ states that elements of 115 TF Bn and CJTF Vigilantes conducted a patrol in the vicinity of DOGWABA, DUTSE, MAYOLARDE and MUSA A, B and C Villages, ADAMAWA(?) State without making contact with the enemy

DHQ states that elements of 117 TF Bn conducted a patrol in the vicinity of MIDO, VAPURA, SHELMI, GUBLA, DAR and HYAMBULA Villages, MADAGALI LGA, ADAMAWA State rescuing 27 people from MAYO ALI Villages

DHQ states that elements of 7 Div. Garrison and CJTF Vigilantes arrested Mallam Ashiru ZARAMI at MAINOK, KAGA LGA, BORNO State, on suspicion of being a Boko Haram logistician, he has been handed over to the Joint Intelligence Processing Centre

DHQ states that a suspected Boko Haram member Mallam Abubaker KIME surrendered to soldiers and CJTF vigilantes in BENISHEIKH, KAGA LGA, BORNO State. He claimed to have escaped from KALMARI Village near ALAGARNO Forest

DHQ states that Elements of 7 Div Strike Group were ambushed en route to BANKI, BAMA LGA, BORNO State, which they defeated killing 4 enemy, capturing AK 47s, 2 x mobile phones and 1 x IED contained in a 23mm shell case.

DHQ states that elements of 151 TF Bn cleared IZA and 8 other villages in GWOZA LGA, BORNO State

DHQ states that Elements of 113 Bn conducted a fighting patrol in the vicinity of DUNGA, GUBIO(?) LGA, BORNO State destroying an enemy camp in ALAJERI, GUZAMALA LGA, BORNO State killing 40 enemy capturing 1 x GPMG, 1 x RPG7 round, 6 x AK 47, 2 x FN FAL, 10 x magazines, 188 x 7.62mm NATO rounds, 64 x 7.62mm (AK), 3 mobile phones, 6 x Qurans and 20 x motorcycles.

DHQ states that elements of 114 TF Bn conducted a patrol in the vicinity of BITTA-PRIDANG-MANAWASHE , GWOZA LGA, BORNO State and rescued 95 hostages who reportedly escaped from MADUBE and SHUWARI area

13 March

A fight between two factions loyal to Mohammed TOLA and Mohammed YAKI, the Sarkin Bakan GOMBI of the CJTF at ceremony for two Amalgamated Union of Nigerian Hunter officials in GOMBI, GOMBI LGA, ADAMAWA State led to 7 dead and 19 wounded.

Situation North West (Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States)

06 March

Gunmen abducted 9 Fulani women from DOGUWA and TUDUN WADA LGAS, KANO State and reportedly taken to the FALGORE Forest

Gunmen abducted Hajiya Hafsat ABUBAKAR, the stepmother of a KANO State House of Assembly Member Alhaji Salisu IBRAHIM from her home in RIRIWAI TOWN, TUDN WADA LGA, KANO State near the FALGORE Forest and demanded N50m ransom. The Police state that 4 people have been arrested

07 March

NEMA SOKOTO State Zonal Office states that between November 2015 and January 2016, cattle rustlers have killed 76 people in TSAFE, BUNGUDU and MARU LGAs, ZAMFARA State

11 March

Elements of 1 Div, killed 2 x suspected armed robbers in PANBEGWA, LERE LGA, KADUNA State recovering 1 x Toyota Hilux, 1 x pump action shot gun, 14 x shotgun cartridges, 1 x mobile phone and N310, 000.00

12 March

Director Army Public Relations states that elements of Op Sharan Daji in ZAMFARA State killed 4 suspected cattle rustlers wounded 16, arrested 3, destroyed 7 camps, captured 2 x machetes, 3 x AK 47, 4 x AK47 magazines and 486 livestock. In KATSINA State, 1 soldier was injured, 5 suspected rustlers killed and 2 captured. 5 camps destroyed, 1 x AK47, 5 x locally made firearms, 12 x machetes captured and 116 livestock recovered. In KADUNA State, 2 x suspected rustlers were killed, 7 arrested and 6 camps destroyed, 2 x locally made pistols, 3 x bow and arrows and 4 x machetes were captured and 305 livestock recovered, in DOGUWA Forest, KANO State; 1 x suspected rustler was killed, 1 x camp destroyed and 126 cattle 331 sheep, 10 donkeys and 3 camels recovered.

Security forces arrested Liman MUHAMMAD, a suspected armed robber (accused of cattle rustling in ZAMFARA and KADUNA State) in KETERINGI Village, BIDA LGA, NIGER State.

Situation North Centre (Abuja FCT, Bauchi, Benue, Gombe Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Taraba States)

07 March

Defence Minister Mansur Dan ALI met South African Minister of Defence Nosiviwe MAPISA-NQAKULA and signed a bilateral agreement on Special Forces training. SANDF Chief Gen Zakaria ‘Solly’ SHOKE visited the CDS Gen OLONISAKIN in ABUJA, FCT, reportedly responding positively to requests for further Special Forces training and equipment.

Former CDS Air Marshall Alex BADEH was charged at Federal High Court, ABUJA, FCT with 9 charges of fraud, criminal breach of trust and money laundering of N3bn. He is alleged to have used the funds to buy property, including land, shopping malls and houses. He denied the charges.

09 March

Suspected Fulani gunmen attacked TSE CHIA, TSE NHUMBE, DEGHKIA and NGORUKGAN Villages, LOGO LGA, BENUE State around 2.00am killing up to 8 people and burning the villages

Senator Emmanuel BWACHA (PDP-TARABA) alleged that the attacks in AGATU LGA, BENUE State were being carried out by displaced Boko Haram fighters.

10 March

Op Safe Haven has opened a new base with 60 soldiers under a Lieutenant, in Sector 7, GASHISHI, BARKIN LADI LGA, PLATEAU State

Gunmen attacked MBANYAGBE and MBAANYO Villages, TSEDEV Community, TARKA LGA, BENUE State from across River BURUKU killing 3 people and burning several houses

11 March

The NDLEA paraded Samuel AGU, Village Head of KOJE, EGGON LGA, NASARAWA State who was arrested with 12kg of cannabis hidden in cement sacks that he grew on his farm on Friday 4th March

12 March

Approximately 50 suspected Fulani gunmen attacked TARKA LGA, BENUE State killing 6 people

The Federal Government has reportedly approved the deployment of additional troops to BENUE State

13 March

The Mue Ter Turan Zaki Yalu AGBO of the Turan community and Yakubu ABUBAKER of the Fulani community in KWANDE LGA, BENUE State have signed a peace deal after Fulani herdsmen reportedly chased away inhabitants in MOON and MBAIKYO Ward, KWANDE LGA in 2013

Gunmen attacked KERAWA, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region in the morning, but were pushed back into KIRAWA, GWOZALGA, NIGERIA. 1 x vigilante was killed

Gunmen attacked BAME, KOLOFATA Arrondissement, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region at night killing 4 civilians

08 March

Gunmen attacked EMCHOUKOULI, FOTOKOL Arrondissement, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region at night killing 1 villager and stealing livestock
