Elements of 21 Bde, 7 Div, ambushed enemy gunmen in the SAMBISA Forest, in the vicinity of SABSAWA, NGANZAI LGA, BORNO State capturing 1 x Toyota Hilux, 2 x AK 47 and 37 x 12.7mm rounds. 1 solier was wounded

BORNO State Governor Kashim SHETTIMA has banned the sale of dried meat, importation of beef or cattle, slaughter of cattle by anyone except licensed butchers for 2 weeks

Gunmen attacked military positions in BAMA, BAMA LGA, BORNO State in the morning losing 5 killed and several wounded. Friendly forces captured 1 x vehicle, mounted with AAA gun, other vehicles and rifles

Cattle markets in DUSUMAN, JERE LGA, SHUWARI, and NGOM, suspected of contributing funds to Boko Haram have been shut down, a cattle market in GAMBORU, NGALA LGA, BORNO State was closed 2 weeks ago. The closures and ban on the sale of beef and dry meat has led to thousands of livestock dying from lack of water

05 March

Elements of 231 Bn, 331 Bn and Armed Forces Special Forces of 3 Div conducted an intelligence led raid on enemy positions in the vicinity of DOKSA, BIU LGA, BORNO State killing 2 x enemy, capturing 1 named as Musa ABDULLAHI and capturing 1 x GPMG, 1 x AK 47, 7.62mm link, 2 x Dane guns, 2 x pick ups, 25 x motorcycles, 30 x bicycles, large quantities of foodstuffs and grinding machines. Friendly forces cleared 2 x IEDs on their axis of advance. The enemy had also reportedly contaminated local water supplies

Elements of 121 TF Bn, 26 TF Bde conducted clearance ops in the vicinity of DURE 1, DURE 2 and JANGO DIBIYE, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State defeating the enemy after heavy resistance and capturing 2 x Motorola radios (1 of which was booby trapped), IED making materials and grain stored in underground caches. 3 soldiers were wounded by an IED strike

Gunmen abducted a Senior Director in the KADUNA State Ministry of Finance on his farm at KANGIMI, IGABI LGA, KADUNA State on KADUNA-JOS Road

28 February

Elements of the SOKOTO/ KEBBI/ ZAMFARA Area Command, NCS intercepted alleged rice smugglers at a checkpoint on ILLELA-GWADABAWA-SOKOTO Road, in the vicinity of ASARE Village near GWADABAWA Town, GWADABAWA LGA, SOKOTO State. One of the alleged smugglers was killed after an accidental discharge from a Customs Officer, leading to a violent protest by locals, who burnt 4 Customs posts and wounded 1 x Customs officer. The alleged smugglers state they were carrying 2 bags of rice from ILLELA to GWADABAWA for a function and were ordinary motorists

29 February

Commander 3 Bde, Brig Gen Hamisu HASSAN stated that 28 suspected terrorists had been detained in 3 Bde AO of JIGAWA (10), KANO (17) and KATSINA (1) States whist visiting KATSINA State Governor Aminu Bello MASARI. He also stated they had conducted 93 anti cattle rustling operations in RUGU Forest, KATSINA State and stated there needed to be more cooperation between the army and KATSINA, ZAMFARA, KANO, JIGAWA and BAUCHI State Governments in order to defeat cattle rustlers in RUGU and FALGORE Forests

8 gunmen abducted an Indian national in KANO, KANO state, using him to gain entry to his factory, break open a safe and steal N5m using a gas cylinder, the noise attracted a Police Patrol wo engaged the suspects, killing 3 and arresting 4. 1 reportedly escaped with wounds, 4 x factory security guards and 1 x policeman were injured. The Police recovered N3.2m in cash, 2 x laptops, 5 x mobile phones, 1 x revolver, 3 x AK 47, masks charms and ammunition

The CAS Air Marshall Sadique ABUBAKAR stated the NAF would deploy additional force to KANO State to secure airfields, whilst visiting KANO State Governor Abdullahi GANDUJE

Suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked villages and refugee camps in UKURA, GAFA, PER and TSE GUSA, UKEMGBIRAGHIA TWAREV Ward, LOGO LGA, BENUE State killing up to 40 people and displacing 2000. The issue was reportedly precipitated when local Tiv farmers surrounded a Fulani village to prevent a large herd of cattle entering their village

29 February

Suspected Fulani gunmen attacked ODUGBEHO-AGATU, AGATU LGA, BENUE State reportedly killing up to 50 people and burning the village

Approximately 10 x gunmen attempted to abduct a businessman from MAIHULA Village, BALI LGA, TARABA State around 3.30am but were engaged by local villagers in a 40 minute fight, whilst their target escaped through a fence

01 March

Vigilantes arrested 4 suspected Boko Haram members on suspicion of spying in ALKALERI, ALKALERI LGA, BAUCHI State, Abubakar SHETTIMA, Salisu Mohammed BELLO, Umar Sadiq MADAKI and Victor MOSES, they are currently being detained in SHADAWANKA Barracks, 33 Artillery Bde. They were caught when MOSES (allegedly a Christian from BENUE State) went to a mosque and aroused suspicion, he reportedly confessed to working for a cleric in GOMBE via SHETTIMA (in whose shop MOSES lived in JOS, PLATEU State) and to conducting reconnaissance on targets such as the Catholic Church, MADALLA, NIGER State in 2011

Suspected Fulani gunmen attacked OGUFA Village, LOKO Development Area, NASARAWA LGA NASARAWA State

The Army Council has reviewed the conviction of Brig Gen Enitan RANSOME KUTI by Special Courts Martial in October 2015 over the fall of BAGA. The Council confirmed his not guilty verdict on Count 1, confirmed the guilty verdict on Count 2 but commuted his sentence of dismissal, reabsorbing but demoting him to Colonel with 4 years seniority and acquitting him on the third Count and ordering his release from custody. The decision was taken on 22 February after a review of the sentence, with the circular by Col O.N. TAIWO on behalf of the COAS

Gunmen abducted a retired DSS officer Hosea DANJUMA, from his home in BAISA, KUMI LGA, TARABA State around 1.45am

02 March

The DSS arrested Musa Garba ABUBAKAR (aka Muhadis Musa BIN HADDAD) on suspicion of being a weapons manufacturer and arms dealer in North Central NIGERIA. He was detained with 2 x pistols and 80 rounds of ammunition and several sensitive documents. The DSS alleged that he had approached several foreign missions asking for finances and support to fight Boko Haram. Based on information obtained from ABUBAKAR, the DSS arrested Umar Khalil MUHAMMED in LAYIN OSCAR, JOS SOUTH LGA, PLATEAU State and Mohammed Yakubu TAHIR (aka Mallam YARO) in MISTA ALI Area, along JOS- ZARIA Road, BASSA LGA, PLATEAU State.

03 March

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development stated that The Army had deployed a unit from Enugu to restore order in AGATU LGA, BENUE State

The Inspector General of Police Solomon ARASE organised a Stakeholders Meeting in MAKURDI, BENUE State to discuss the Fulani/ Farmers crisis in AGATU LGA, BENUE State, with AGATU Community represented by Akpa IDUH and Ardo BODERI representing the Fulani community

BENUE State Police Commissioner Paul YAKADI stated that 7 villages in AGATU LGA (OKOKOLO, AILA, ADAGBO, AKWU, OMIKUIDI, OCHOLONYA and ODUGBEHO are occupied by armed men (reportedly Fulani) with up to 5,000 cattle. A reporter for RFI Hausa Service Ahmed ABBA was charged before a military court in YAOUNDE, CAMEROUN with ‘complicity in terrorism, failing to warn authorities of acts of terrorism and failing to denounce acts of terror’. The journalist who was arrested in July 2015, alleges he was tortured and denied access to lawyers and family. The trial was adjourned till 28 March

Defence Ministers from the G5 SAHEL countries (CHAD, NIGER, BURKINA FASO, MALI and MAURITANIA) met in N’DJAMENA, CHAD AND agreed to form special 100 man (Company strength )units to combat extremist militancy based on the model used by Spanish forces combatting ETA in Basque country. Training and support are to be provided by FRANCE and SPAIN. A Threat Analysis and Early Warning Centre and War College are to be set up in MAURITANIA, funded by the EU.
