23 January

39 cattle rustlers who operated in FALGORE and GOMO Forests surrendered their arms at GOMO Village, SUMAILA LGA, KANO State at a reception held by Gov GANDUJE in return for an amnesty

Villagers from BABBAN GIDA, TARMUWA LGA, YOBE State spotted suspected militants at SASSAWA in the afternoon

24 January

DIG Sotonye WAKAMA visited the MOPOL Training Camp at GWOZA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State, in preparation for a relief in place of 143 Ranger Bn

Elements of 3 Div conducted a 5 hour operation in SASSAWA Forest in the vicinity of CHROKUSKO Village, TARMUWA LGA, YOBE State killing 14 enemy and capturing 2 enemy, 6 x AK 47, 2 x G3, 1 x FN FAL, 1 x GPMG, 2 x RPG, 3 x IED and 382 x rounds of ammunition

BENUE State Police Command broke up an illegal arms manufacturing group in KWANDE LGA, BENUE State. The police captured 17 different types of firearms

25 January

7 officers appeared before a General Courts Martial in LAGOS, LAGOS State. Gen K.O. KOMOLAFE, Cols. I.B MAINA and I.A.ABOI, Lt Col N.N. OROK, C.A. MAGAJI, A.O. AGWU and O.O. OBOLO were charged with desertion and cowardice when 21 Artillery Bde was attacked at BAMA on 2 September 2014, an unnamed Other Rank also appeared. The cases of 14 other officers had reportedly concluded

President BUHARI stated that he planned to map out grazing areas to prevent clashes between farmers and herdsmen

26 January

The NAF announced that it has added locally fabricated weapon delivery systems to 2 x Alphajets purchased in 2015. Group Captain A.K. FAMUYIWA NAF Director of PR stated that the works cost N400,000.00 to do locally

27 January

The ADAMAWA State government has begun a public awareness campaign in English and Hausa on the radio and TV on how to identify possible suicide bombers

The wife or President BUHARI, Hajiya Aisha BUHARI visited wounded soldiers at 44 Army Reference Hospital, KADUNA, KADUNA State accompanied by the wife of the COAS and other senior officers

The NAF carried out airstrikes on enemy positions and concentrations in MOBBAR LGA, BORNO State

The NDLEA stated it had arrested 286 suspects (4 females and 282 males) and confiscated 1,614.529kg (8,400ml x codeine cough syrup, 1,320.129kg x cannabis, 44.278kg x Diazepam, 161.215kg x Tramadol and 0.0014kg x cocaine) of illicit drugs in NIGER State in 2015, which it is seeking a court order to destroy.

28 January

GOC 3 Div Brig Gen ALIYU stated the 130 km DAMATURU- BIU Road was ready to reopen to civilian traffic, escorting journalists as far as KATARKO-GUJBA Bridge, 22km from DAMATURU and handing over liberated communities to the NSCDC, NPF, Nigeria customs Service, DSS, and other agencies for routine duties.

The NAF Regiment completed the British Military Advisory Training Team 3 week Capacity Building Training with an exercise at KADUNA International Airport from 25-28 January on Airfield defence and protection of critical assets.

The EFCC has arrested former CAS AVM AMOSU for his links to the purchase of 2 x helicopters in 2015 which were allegedly unserviceable, leading to the crash of 1 and the death of 2 NAF servicemen. The EFCC claim to have identified 9 x luxury homes associated with the former CAS

Kabiru UMAR (aka Kabiru SOKOTO) the convicted Boko Haram bomber has filed a notice of appeal with the Court of Appeal, ABUJA, FCT, accusing the Comptroller General and Attorney General of the Federation of frustrating his attempts at Appeal

30 January

The Governors of KADUNA, ZAMFARA, SOKOTO, KANO, KEBBI, KATSINA and NIGER States held a Joint Security Operations meeting in KADUNA, KADUNA State to review anti-crime operations in their states. Governor Aminu MASARI of KATSINA State stated that up to 30,000 cattle in KAMUKU Forest

Op Lafiya Dole Deputy Theatre Commander Air Operations AVM Isiaka Oladayo AMAO stated that the NAF had conducted 286 sorties in the AO, since 25 December at a media briefing in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State. He equated this to 536 hours, 21 minutes of flying, 316, 637.5 litres of aviation fuel

Situation Enemy Forces

24 January

Suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked KOH, DEMSARE, TABONGO, FAWURE, NOYINE and NDIKAJAM Villages, GIREI LGA, ADAMAWA State with small arms, bladed weapons, bows and arrows around 5.30am killing 30 people, including a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) looting livestock and foodstuffs and burning the villages, reportedly in revenge for the murder of a young Fulani boy. The villages are populated by Bata and Fulanis. The DPO Okezie OKOROAFOR of VUNOKILANG Division, reportedly tried to negotiate with the attacking herdsmen but was murdered after his escorts left with his vehicles, the 8 policemen and a herdsman have been arrested

Gunmen killed 2 Mobile Policemen at a checkpoint at NIMBIA Village, JEMA’A LGA, KADUNA State around 10.30am bordering RIYOM LGA, PLATEAU State

Gunmen mounted in Hiluxes and motorcycles attacked BABBAN GIDA, TARMUWA LGA, YOBE State around 1.45am killing 1 man and burning his hut and a mobile phone mast, they then dismounted and attacked the police station on foot stealing 2 vehicles but were repelled

25 January

Gunmen attacked 15 firewood traders in JAWU, KONDUGA LGA, BORNO State 8km from AUNO murdering 5 with small arms and bladed weapons and burning their vehicle, 8 escaped, 1 of whom suffered a gunshot wound, 2 are still missing

27 January

At least 3 x PBIED attacked CHIBOK, CHIBOK LGA, BORNO State around 12.54pm killing 12 people and wounding 30. The first male PBIED detonated at a checkpoint entering the town, killing a soldier, a female PBIED detonated in the centre of the market and a second at the exit as people fled

29 January

2 x PBIED attacked the grain market GOMBI, GOMBI LGA, ADAMAWA State around 12.00pm killing 20 people and wounding up to 17. A young male (approximately 10 years old) PBIED disguised as a female detonated in the market. 1 x suspected PBIED was allegedly captured and stated that 5 were deployed for the attack with 2 detonating and 2 others in hiding

30 January

Gunmen mounted in 2x VW Golfs and several motorcycles attacked DALORI, JERE LGA, BORNO State 5km south east of MAIDUGURI around 7.00pm with small arms, IEDs and PBIEDs in a 4 hour attack killing up to 105 people and wounding 100. The attackers approached through YALE, and opened fire, as people were fleeing 3 x female PBIEDs attempted to infiltrate DALORI IDP camp but were repelled and detonated amongst the crowd. The attackers set fire to the village before being defeated

A CJTF Toyota Hilux detonated IEDs in the vicinity of BUMA Village, KAGA LGA, BORNO State, 15km from NGAMDU around 8.30am killing 5 and wounding 4

23 January

Gunmen engaged Camerounian forces in the vicinity of ASHIGASHIYA, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region losing 2 killed and 1 wounded

24 January

Camerounian forces recovered the bodies of Ousmaila SAGOU, Police Chief of DABANGA and retired Police Inspector Adam HASSAN in NIGERIA

Elements of BIR conducted a 2 day clearance operation in the vicinity of ASHIGASHIYA, LOGONE ET CHARI Department and GAKARA, NIGERIA, to destroy enemy logistics and IED networks, killing 17 enemy, capturing 9, AK47s, detonators, a herd of cattle, spears, axes, knives, ammunition and destroying 3 x armoured vehicles. 3 Camerounian soldiers were reported wounded

25 January

4 x PBIEDs attacked BODO, MAKARY Arrondissement, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region killing 32 people and wounding 86. 2 x PBIEDs detonated in the central market, whilst the other 2 detonated at a bridge near the Army camp

26 January

An ammunition bunker in MNJTF Sector 1 Base, MBARMA, MORA, EXTREME NORD Region exploded around 1.20am destroying at least 4 buildings and some vehicles

Gunmen attacked MADINA, MAKARY Arrondissement, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region near BODO, burning up to 60 properties and looting foodstuffs

Villagers accuse Camerounian forces of allegedly killed up to 40 Nigerians as they pursued Boko Haram to GWADALE Village, BORNO State

27 January

Camerounian artillery fires targeted retreating enemy gunmen in WUMBI, NIGERIA, destroying farms and buildings

Gunmen attacked KERAWA, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region killing one vigilante

Gunmen attacked KODOUGOU, KOLOFATA Arrondissement, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region at night losing 1 x enemy killed and 1 x vigilante

2 x suspected PBIEDs were arrested in KERAWA in the morning including an alleged wife of a senior Boko Haram leader in KIRAWA, NIGERIA

28 January

2 x PBIEDs attacked in an IDP camp in a school in KERAWA killing 6 attackers and wounding 19. 1 other suspected PBIED is being sought

EXTREME NORD Region Governor Midjiyawa BAKARIS, states that most markets along the CAMEROUN/ NIGERIA Border are to be closed

29 January

1 x PBIED detonated at the entrance to TOLKOMARI, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region killing 1 person

2 x PBIED detonated at BARGARAM, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region killing the 3 x attackers, 2 x villagers and 1 x vigilantes and wounding 11

The Camerounian government denied reports that their troops attacked Nigerian villages

30 January

Gunmen attacked MADAKAR, MAYO MOSKATA Arrondissement, MAYO TSANAGA, EXTREME NORD Region killing 3 villagers

The State of Emergency in DIFFA Region, NIGER Republic has been extended by the Nigerien Parliament
