Situation Friendly Forces

11 January

The CAS AVM Abubakar SADIQUE states the NAF plans to build a Regional Helicopter Maintenance Hanger for in MINNA, NIGER State

12 January

Policemen on escort duty encountered armed robbers along ZUBA-KADUNA Road around 2.00am, engaging them in a firefight, 2 suspects were killed whilst others escaped. Police recovered 3x AK 47, 104 x rounds of unspecified ammunition and 1 x Toyota Corolla

The Police in NIGER State arrested 10 kidnapping, armed robbery and cattle rustling suspects. 2 x AK 47s and 134x rounds of ammunition (type unspecified) were recovered and 2 suspects arrested in MASALACHIN ZALI Forest, MASHEGU LGA, 3 suspects arrested in SABON GADA, KATETREGI Forest, KATCHA LGA and 62 cattle recovered, while 2 suspected armed robbers were also arrested in the Forest with a locally made rifle and 21 x rounds of ammunition and a pistol

KANO State Police Command stated it had seized N1.2bn worth of illegal narcotics between 25 October and 31 December 2015, as part of Op Gida Gida in the state seizing 900 cartons of Tramadol, 48,000kg of Indian hemp, cocaine, cough syrup, Tutoline, Rohypnol, Parkalin etc as well as 500g of cocaine and heroin bound for SAUDI ARABIA. 5 suspects from IMO State and 1 each from ANAMBRA, KATSINA and EDO were arrested

The Minister of Health Professor Isaac Folorunso ADEWALE stated the Federal Government had set aside N1.5bn to upgrade health care facilities in BORNO, YOBE, GOMBE and ADAMAWA States

13 January

The COAS Lt Gen BURATAI stated the Army will expand to include 2 new divisions, with 8 Div in the North and 6 Div in the South South, increasing the Army to 200,000 in 8 years with 12,000 to be recruited in 2016 whilst delivering a lecture at the national Defence College, ABUJA, FCT on ‘Nigerian Army: Challenges and Future Perspectives’. The Special Forces Training Centre is to be sited in BUNI YADI, GUJBA LGA, YOBE State

14 January

President BUHARI ordered a new investigation into the GSS CHIBOK abductions, after a meeting with the Bring Back Our Girls pressure group

15 January

President BUHARI ordered the EFCC to investigate 38 former military officers and companies for alleged fraud in arms procurement between 2007 and 2015

16 January

The KADUNA State Government has announced the formation of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the clashes between the IMN and Army in December 2015 under Sections 2 of the KADUNA State Commission of Inquiry Law 1991. Chaired by Justice Mohammed GARBA (PORT HARCOURT Division Court of Appeal) with Professor Ibrahim GAMBARI (former Foreign Minister and UN Under Secretary General ), Dr Bala BABAJI (Director Centre for Islamic Studies), Professor Salihu SHEHU (Lecturer Bayero University, KANO), Professor Umar LABDO (Northwest University, KANO), Malam Salihu ABUBAKAR (former Director NAERLS) Professor Auwalu YADUDU (Law Professor), Mr Afakriya GADZAMA (former Director General DSS), Brig Gen Aminum-Kano MAUDE (rtd) (former Deputy Director Army Finance and Accounts), Dr Jibrin IBRAHIM (Ahmadu Bello University), Mrs Khadijah Hawaja GAMBO (Gender Rights activist), Mr Bilya BALA (Banker) and Maj Gen Alexander Anjili MSHELBWALA (former Military Secretary) its remit is to determine the immediate cause of the clashes, examine the historical circumstances and contributory factors of the clashes and report in 6 weeks.

Situation Enemy Forces

11 January

Gunmen attacked MADAGALI, MADAGALI LGA, ADAMAWA State around 12.30am walking through CHAKAWA, killing 7, with bladed weapons wounding 8 and burning the houses of 2 prominent people. Local people state the insurgents are in the vicinity of DABU Village

14 January

Fighting broke out between Fulani herdsmen and Agatu farmers in ODENI MAGAJI Village, NASARAWA LGA, NASARAWA State leading to 30 deaths

15 January

Dismounted gunmen attacked 120 TF Bn, 27 TF Bde positions in GONIRI, GUJBA LGA, YOBE State around 5.50am with small arms and IEDs from SHETIMARI but were defeated after a 4 hour firefight leaving one soldier dead. They retreated to TASHAN FULANI Village, TARMUWA LGA, YOBE State, 35km north of DAMATURU where 17 enemy were reported killed and 6 x AK47, 3 x IEDs, 4 x HE hand grenades, 1 x GPMG, 4 x magazines, 382 x 7.62mm NATO were captured. .

Gunmen mounted on motorcycles attacked CHUROKUSKO Village, TARMUWA LGA, YOBE State, 68km from DAMATURU but were repelled by friendly forces with casualties

16 January

An IED detonated against an Army convoy in the vicinity of SHANTUMARI Village, KONDUGA LGA, BORNO State in SAMBISA Forest, leading to a firefight in the vicinity of WALE Village.

08 January

Gunmen attacked FIMA Village, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region stealing 125 oxen and abducting 2 women

10 January

4 suspected Boko Haram fuel dealers were arrested by Camerounian forces in MINAWO Refugee Camp, MAYO TSANAGA Department, EXTREME NORD Region.

11 January

A PBIED detonated in the vicinity of TOLKOMARI, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region around 9.00am as he tried to get to KOLOFATA

12 January

Gunmen attacked KOUYAPE, KOLOFATA Arrondissement, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region killing 2 people

INTERPOL Secretary General Jurgen STOCK stated that the fight against Daesh, Boko Haram and other terror group is at a decisive stage, whilst addressing the Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTF) working group f the Global Counterterrorism Forum in THE HAGUE, THE NETHERLANDS

13 January

A PBIED detonated in a mosque in KOUYAPE, KOLOFATA Arrondissement, MAYO SAVA Department around 5.40am killing 13 and wounding 3.

14 January

A Short Term Training team of 35 soldiers from 2 Royal Anglian Regt deployed to NIGERIA to deliver COIN, command and leadership, infantry and Counter IED training to Nigerian troops

Gunmen attacked BAKARESSE, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region, near KERAWA but were driven out by the Camerounian Army

4 suspected Boko Haram gunmen were captured by elements of BTAP in the vicinity of ASHIGASHIYA, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region

15 January

Camerounian Communications Minister Issa Tchiroma BAKARY stated that 1, 098 civilians, 67 soldiers and 3 policemen had been killed in EXTREME NORD Region since 2013 by Boko Haram with 315 raids and 32 suicide bombings

An IED detonated against a MNJTF vehicle between LIMANI and BONDERI, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region wounding 2 soldiers

16 January

Vigilantes in BAME Village, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region arrested a suspected Boko Haram gunman with 2 weapons
