Situation Friendly Forces

13 December

Elements of 1 Div supported by MOPOL and armoured vehicles surrounded and then cleared several IMN sites in ZARIA, KADUNA State including IMNs HUSSEINIYA BAKIYATULLAH Complex in GRA, IMNs leader Ibrahim EL ZAKZAKY’s residence at GYELLESU, a site at DARUR RAHMA Complex along ZARIA-JOS Road and resource centre/ cemetery on DAMBO Road, DAMBO Village. EL ZAKZAKY was wounded and captured around 9.15am, IMN deputy Mohammed TURI, IMN spokesman Ibrahim USMAN, one of EL ZAKZAKYs wives (Zeenat IBRAHIM) and his sons HAMAD (18), ALI (16) HUMEID (13) and up to 60 others were reportedly killed. EL ZAKZAKY has reportedly been airlifted to ABUJA, FCT

14 December

GOC 1 Div Major Gen Adeniyi OYEBADE in a joint press conference with KADUNA State Commissioner of Police Umar SHEHU stated that leader of IMN Sheikh Ibrahim EL ZAKZAKY and his wife were in protective custody

Former NSA Col Sambo DASUKI (rtd), Shuaibu SALISU (former ONSA Director of Finance and Administration) was charged with 19 counts of fraud, money laundering and criminal breach of trust involving a total sum of N13.57bn ($68.2m) at ABUJA High Court, ABUJA, FCT. The charges alleges that at least N10bn was used to fund the Presidential campaign

Elements of 7 Div conducted a fighting patrol towards AULARI, BAMA LGA, BORNO State clearing enemy positions at FALDAN, KIIZIOMARI, KUROSHINI, KURUMARI and NGULDA killing 1 enemy and rescuing 31 people, crops and food stuffs were found in metal drums, sacks and buried underground, bicycles and motorcycles were also recovered along with a wooden rifle allegedly for training

Elements of 7 Div Garrison conducted 8 fighting patrols clearing KHADADAMAMARI, LADIN BUTA, HILMARI, KASHAURI, KESHAN NGALA, AIWA, MASU KURA, MABIRNI, GRZA 1, GRZA 2, MASHUARI, DUBENGE, TAUBA and MAIANDE in the vicinity of LEJE, MAFA LGA BORNO State, killing 2 enemy mounted on motorcycles and blocking enemy movements

Shia Muslims held a protest march in relation to the ZARIA incident around 12.00am from their MARKAZ Centre, returning at 4.00am. Another protest march left from around WAJE Mosque, FAGGE KANO and marched to the Emir of KANO’s Palace via KANTIN KWARI Market, KOFAR MATA, MURTALA MUHAMMED Specialist Hospital to KANO Central Mosque. Similar protests took place in KATSINA

The spokesman of the IMN Mallam Iro MUSA stated the Army refused to hand over bodies of their members for burial

COAS Lt Gen BURATAI ordered the arrest of soldiers who allegedly attacked an Hausa Community in MAKURDI, BENUE State for prosecution by the National Human Rights Commission

15 December

Former NSA Col Sambo DASUKI (rtd), Shuaibu SALISU (former ONSA Director of Finance and Administration), Bashiru YUGUDA (former Minister of State for Finance), Attahiru BAFARAWA (former SOKOTO State governor) and Dalhatu BAFARAWA (the ex Governors son) were charged with 22 counts of fraud, money laundering and criminal breach of trust involving a total sum of N13.57bn ($68.2m) at ABUJA High Court, ABUJA, FCT. The charges alleges that at least N10bn released between January and March 2015 was used to fund the Presidential campaign. All plead Not Guilty and were remanded in the custody of the EFCC.

Soldiers have reportedly set up checkpoints at DOGARAWA Village, ZARIA, KADUNA State leading to ZARIA

The Minister of Internal Affairs has tasked the Nigerian Human Rights Council (NHRC) to set up a panel headed by NHRC Chairman Chidi ODINKALU to investigate the ZARIA incident

16 December

SOKOTO State Police Command has warned against unauthorised processions by religious or other groups.

NEMA states it has received 1,187 refugees returning from CAMEROUN in FUFORE IDP Camp, ADAMAWA State since Monday 14th December

Leaders of IMN Abdulmumin GIWA (Media Forum Secretary) and Abdulrahman ABUBAKAR (Head of IMN YOLA branch) held a press conference in ABUJA, FCT requesting that their leader EL ZAKZAKY be handed over to them for medical treatment, release of their detained members, end to harassment of their members, release of their members bodies for Islamic burial, compensation for lost lives an properties and an investigation and prosecution of culprits.

IMN spokesman Ibrahim MUSA stated they had no confidence in the panel headed by the Area Police Commander as he was junior to many of the parties involved. They also requested that the corpses of their members be returned for proper Islamic burial

17 December

Maj Gen Yusha’u ABUBAKAR, Commander Op Lafiya Dole stated that friendly forces had cleared enemy camps in the vicinity of BAMA-PULKA and ALAGARNO in BORNO State.

President BUHARIs’ spokesman stated that NIGERIA had been invited to join the Saudi alliance but no decision had been made as to whether to join.

The Army stated that friendly forces killed 15 enemy in the vicinity of ALAGARNO, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State whilst along BAMA-PULKA Road 34 enemy were killed

18 December

The Joint Investigation Committee, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State cleared Abubakar SADIQ who was arrested and alleged to be number 28 of the 100 most wanted Boko Haram suspect, he was released to his family without charge and the DAGGASH family also cleared

DHQ has appointed Major General Hassan UMORU, (ex GOC 3 Div) as commander Op Lafiya Dole with Maj Gen Lucky IRABOR as deputy commander. He succeeds Maj Gen ABUBAKAR. Maj Gen Lamidi ADEOSUN (ex GOC 7 Div) has taken command of the MNJTF. New commanders for 3 Div and 7 Div have not been announced

The Minister of Information and Culture Lai MOHAMMED stated that Boko Haram are seeking to stage mass abductions of students

The NDLEA impounded a truck containing N15m worth of cannabis after it was involved in a Road Traffic Accident in ALUSHI Village, AKWANGA LGA, NASARAWA State killing 3 roadside hawkers. The vehicle occupants fled leaving behind mobile phones and other personal items

The Federal High Court, ABUJA, FCT granted DASUKI et al bail of N250m each, as long as they can produce a surety who is a serving or retired civil servant ranking no lower than Director

19 December

The Army has commuted the death sentences of 66 soldiers convicted of mutiny to 10 years in prison

Elements of 25 TF Bde conducted a fighting patrol along the DAMBOA-NJABE-BALE Road, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State, engaging the enemy in the vicinity of BULAYAGA, killing 3 enemy, including the local enemy Amir, who allegedly operated around BALE, WASS and MUFURUNDI Villages. Troops captured 1 x AK 47 with magazine, 43 x 7.62mm rounds, 1 x grinding machine, 5 x dane guns, 7 x motorcycles, 21 x bags of grain and 2 x enemy flags

21 December

The Federal High Court, ABUJA, FCT discharged the 5 policemen accused of extra judicially killing Mohammed YUSUF, former Boko Haram leader in 2009. ACP J.B. ABANG, ACP AKERA, ACP Adamu BUBA, CSP Mohammed AHMADU and Sgt Adamu GADO after their lawyer filed a no case submission due to lack of evidence. The Defence lawyer alleged that there were no witnesses and that the Investigating Police Officer did not visit the alleged scene of the crime

Gunmen mounted on motorcycles attacked KAMAWARA Village, ISA LGA, SOKOTO State around 8.00pm killing 2 people, wounding 2 others, burning several houses, stealing motorcycles, cows, sheep and donkey

11 December

Suspected Birom gunmen ambushed and killed 2 Fulani leaders in WERENG Village, RIYOM LGA, PLATEAU State

12 December

Suspected Fulani gunmen attacked a convoy of Birom villagers escorted by elements of Op Safe Haven in PLATEAU State. A soldier was killed

13 December

Suspected Fulani gunmen attacked KWATA Village, ZAWAN Ward, JOS SOUTH LGA, PLATEAU State around 8.00pm killing at least 14 people and destroying 6 houses

Gunmen mounted on bicycles and motorcycles attacked MANGARI, BIU LGA, BORNO State around 3.15pm killing at least 4 people, with 5 missing and burning the village, they then moved to WARAWARA, BIU LGA around 6.15pm, killing at least 20 people and burning the village and then to BURA SHIKA, BIU LGA where at least 6 people were killed

Suspected Fulani gunmen attacked MAKERA, RIYOM LGA, PLATEAU State

14 December

Gunmen attacked KWATA Village, ZAWAN Ward, JOS SOUTH LGA, PLATEAU State killing 2 people as they buried victims of the earlier attack

15 December

Gunmen attacked an Army convoy of 3 x Toyota Hiluxes travelling from MAIDUGURI to BAMA in between KONDUGA and BAMA, BAMA LGA, BORNO State killing a Lt Col and wounding several soldiers

Gunmen killed 2 Fulani along CHEDIYA-BORNON KURKU Road, BALI LGA, TARABA State

16 December

4 x female PBIED attacked a checkpoint at MAFA, MAFA LGA, BORNO State around 7.30am. 1 PBIED detonated a few metres from the checkpoint, the other suspects were shot. The group had apparently tried to evade the checkpoint by passing through a village path. 1 vigilantes was killed and 4 people wounded. The other devices were destroyed in a controlled detonation by the NPF EOD

17 December

Gunmen attacked KAMUYU, BORNO State with small arms and bladed weapons killing 14 people and burning the village

18 December

A mob led by the son of a District Head murdered 6 Tiv people in BELA Village BORNON KURKU, BALI LGA, TARAGA State, after 2 people were killed in an armed robbery along CHEDIYA-BORNON KURKU Road. The suspected killer has been detained in BALI Divisional Police Headquarters

19 December

Gunmen attacked a Triacta Construction Company’s compound housing foreign workers in GUBA SHANGO, GOMBE City, GOMBE LGA, GOMBE State around 9.00pm killing 3 policemen, 2 civilian guards and a generator technician after following them from a construction site

Gunmen attacked BURATAI, BIU LGA, BORNO State around 5.00am, 9 x vehicles from BIU counter attacked defeating the enemy

20 December

3 x suspected PBIED were stopped by vigilantes in BENISHEIKH, KAGA LGA, BORNO State around 8.30pm, 1 detonated killing 9 and wounding 24

2 x suspected female PBIEDs were killed by vigilantes using small arms and bow and arrow around 5.00am in KOLOFATA, MAYO SAVA Department EXTREME NORD Region. The first PBIED reportedly detonated after a vigilante shot at her with an arrow, the second was shot and killed by elements of BIR

15 December

Leila ZERROUGUI the UN Secretary Generals Special Representative on Children and Armed Conflict stated that many child PBIEDs are detonated by remote control

Shiites protested in front of the Nigerian Embassies in TEHRAN, IRAN and DELHI, INDIA

Iranian President Hassan ROUHANI called President BUHARI to discuss the ZARIA incident

The Pakistani Ambassador to NIGERIA Agha Umar FAROOK met the Minister of Defence Dan ALI stating PAKISTAN had been assisting with aircraft maintenance and supplying ammunition

16 December

US Ambassador James ENTWISTLE expressed concern on behalf of the US Government over the situation in ZARIA, expressing dismay over the multiple deaths, stating that he hoped that the Minister of Internal Affairs visit was hopefully the ‘first step in the timely, transparent investigation’
