Situation Friendly Forces

30 November

The EFCC has arrested several individuals in relation to the alleged $2bn arms deal, including Shuaibu SALISU former Office of the National Security Advisors (ONSA) Director of Finance, Aminu Baba KUSA (aka ABK) formerly of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed BABA-KUSA (son of ABK and former Executive Director at NNPC). Others held on charges including criminal conspiracy, theft, forgery, diversion of public funds and money laundering include Abba M.T. USMAN, Evegny KUNDAEV, Attahiru MACCIDO, Salisa Umar GARU, Oyinmiebel BRIBENA, Olukoya Olusegun GODWIN and Olukayode RAIMI. The EFCC also arrested Bashir YUGUDA former Minister of State for Finance for alleged transfers of large sums of Nigerian and foreign currency from the Office of the NSA between December 2014 and May 2015

The Leader of IMN Sheikh EL ZAKZAKY claimed that the KANO PBSIED attacks on his followers were not by Boko Haram, claiming they were ‘contractors’. It was not clear if he had specific suspects or was engaging in generalist comments

The COAS Lt Gen BURATAI stated there was ‘no safe haven for human rights violators’ in the NIGERIA Army, whilst addressing the NIGERIA Bar Association in MAIMALARI Cantonment, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State

01 December

Elements of 7 Div detained an 11 year old boy Usman Modu TELLU at DALORI IDP Camp, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State who is suspect 82 on the 100 most wanted list on suspicion of being a potential PBSIED. The suspect states he is from BAMA Town and that he and 4 other children had been trained in suicide bombing, he also alleged a senior Boko Haram member Alhaji Kerewu ABUBAKAR was in the camp

Former NSA Col Sambo DASUKI (rtd) has been arrested at his home in ABUJA, FCT by the DSS on charges related to authorising up to $2bn worth of allegedly fraudulent contracts

The COAS visited 243 Bn, 5 Bde in GAJIGANA, MAGUMERI LGA, BORNO State with the Theatre Commander, Acting DMI and Acing Provost Marshal (Army) and remonstrated with them for their poor performance in the previous weeks attacks

Former SOKOTO State governor Attahiru BAFARAWA was detained by the EFCC in relation to the alleged $2bn fraudulent defence contracts for allegedly receiving N100m from ONSA. Also arrested in a separate operation was the owner of DAAR Communications Raymond DOKPESI for allegedly receiving N2.1bn from ONSA

BORNO State Governor Kashim SHETTIMA has set up a 7 man fact finding committee to report on the reported abduction of an unspecified number of girls from BAM BURATAI, BIU LGA on 28 November to report back on 4th December.

The Minister of Interior Lt Gen Abdulrahman Bello DAMBAZAU (rtd) received the Israeli Ambassador Uriel PALTI in ABUJA, FCT for discussions on Internal Security

 02 December

Prisoners rioted in JALINGO Prison, JALINGO, TARABA State around 7.00am complaining about poor conditions in the jail. The prisoners allegedly attempted to force open the gates, 2 were shot dead and 2 wounded

The Minister of Interior Lt Gen Abdulrahman Bello DAMBAZAU (rtd) received the US Ambassador James F. ENTWISTLE and the Israeli Ambassador Uriel PALTI in ABUJA, FCT where they pledged assistance is supporting Nigeria’s internal security apparatus. Mr ENTWHISTLE stated that the first US Training Teams would arrive in January 2016 under the US Government Security Governance Initiative

04 December

100 hunters from KADUNA State have volunteered to go to BORNO State to fight insurgents

Elements of 28 TF Bde arrested a suspect Abdullahi ABUBAKAR SADIQ in UBA Town,, ASKIRA UBA LGA, BORNO State who is allegedly number 58 on the 100 most wanted list and the chief cameraman for Boko Haram. 4other suspected Boko Haram were arrested at RUMIRGO and KILAKASA, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State

The NDLEA in ADAMAWA State stated it had seized 905kg of Tramadol tablets and 23kg of Pentazocin injections after raiding a store in JIMETA Modern Market on 28 November

05 December

The Army states it has advanced deep into SAMBISA Forest clearing enemy camps at SHUARI, ADEMBE, YERIMARI KURA, YERIMARI GANA, GONIN KURMI, KORE, MAINYA KORE and LOPERE, supported by rocket artillery and NAF air strikes. Rocket artillery bombardments on DURE, DURE KORE and JOKWA Camps were reported with unspecified numbers of motorcycles, military type uniforms, weapons, IED materials and flags. Also recovered were 2,000 cattle and an unspecified number of abductees (mainly women and children). 1 soldier sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, an unspecified number of enemy were reported killed and captured at YERIMARI GANA. 3 x IEDs were discovered to the enemy camp at NEFARI, 3 soldiers and were killed and 3 wounded in the firefight. DHQ also reports enemy camps destroyed in BULAGAIJE and DISA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State capturing motorcycles, dane guns and ammunition.

The DSS states it has arrested 9 suspects in the past month who had allegedly infiltrated the capital. The agency gave a chronology of arrests:

  • 29 October: Muhammed Hassan IDRIS (NIGER Republic) and Baba Abdul MAINA arrested in PANTEKA Area, APO, ABUJA, FCT . Sanni MOHAMMED (aka KAKASE from POTISKUM, YOBE State) suspected of participating in PBSIED attacks in YOBE, PLATEAU, KANO and KADUNA States and Ahmed UMARU (aka Mallam, Mallam Hamdi GARNE, Ahmed DAUBI) in LAFIA, NASARAWA State.
  • 19 November: Mohamed Shiwar ABUBAKAR (a taxi driver from BORNO State) and Musa TA’ADA (a suya seller at APO Primary School , KABUSA Road from GWOZA LGA, BORNO State) at SHOPRITE Junction, APO, ABUJA, FCT.
  • 22 November: Bulama Ali arrested in KARU, NASARAWA State
  • 23 November: Ahmed HASSAN (from KATAGUM, BAUCHI State) arrested at a ‘high profile hotel’ on suspicion of conducting hostile surveillance disguised as a beggar
  • 01 December: Hassan ABUBAKAR and Mohammed Gwale MOHAMMED (allegedly a Federal civil servant from NIGER State) were arrested in GWALE’s house in MADALLA, SULEJA LGA, NIGER State, after allegedly conducting a successful reconnaissance of targets in ABUJA

Situation Enemy Forces

29 November

Gunmen mounted in 3 vehicles attacked GULAK, MADAGALI LGA, ADAMAWA State around 7.00pm, killing 1 soldier and briefly occupying and burning the town for several hours until defeated by friendly forces from SHUWA and MADAGALI, MADAGALI LGA, who killed 3 enemy, captured 1 x Toyota Hilux, 1 x PKM machine gun, 1 x GPMG, 3 x AK47, 1 x RPG tube and 1 x RPG round, 1 x charger, 7 x boxes of 7.62mm link, 1 x GP340 Radio, 6 x boxes of 7.62mm (short)20 rifles and a large quantity of ammunition and explosive, 3 x anti riot grenades, 30 x cleaning kits, 2 packets of artillery primers and 97 x Zela fuses.

01 December

Gunmen mounted in vehicles attacked GAMGARA Village, ABADAM Village, BORNO State around 8.30pm and murdered 6 men after going house to house. Several others were injured, whilst livestock and foodstuffs were stolen

A group of Herdsmen attacked POLALIDO KANDILAN Village, BILLIRI LGA, GOMBE State killing 1 person, wounding 4, burning 40 properties, destroying foodstuffs, economic trees crops and livestock and displacing 200 people. The attack allegedly came after the herdsmen grazed their cattle on a farmers land and then beat him to death after he complained

A suspected male PBSIED attempted to attack a Filling Station in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State. The suspect allegedly attempted to stab a staff member in order to gain access to the station, during the fracas the device on his person was spotted and he was grappled and detained by the CJTF

04 December

1 x male PBSIED mounted on a motorcycle detonated just outside the market at KIMBA, BIU LGA, BORNO State around 8.30am killing 2 people and wounding 2 others

2 x male PBSIED detonated at a checkpoint in SABON GARI, BIU LGA, BORNO State around 12.00pm, killing 3 people including 2 vigilantes and wounding 4 alighting from a bus to be searched. Earlier a female PBSIED had detonated after being shot after refusing a search. The vigilantes allegedly had prior intelligence about the attack

Situation External Forces

30 November

Camerounian forces arrested 10 Boko Haram suspects in MANAWATCHI I and II, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region.

A suspected Boko Haram courier was arrested at a Gendarme checkpoint in WAZA, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region, with 11,500 Euros. He allegedly worked for Alhaji MUSTAPHA, one of the released Boko Haram commanders

01 December

2 x female PBSIEDs detonated in PLATARI and WALASA Districts, WAZA, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region around 8.00pm killing 6 vigilantes. A third female PBSIED was shot before she could detonate.

The US Department of the Treasury placed economic sanctions on senior Boko Hara leaders Mohammed NUR and Mustapha CHAD, freezing any of their assets under US jurisdiction and forbidding any US person to transact with them

02 December

The Camerounian Minister of communications stated the MNJTF killed several Boko Haram and captured 5 people, 1 of those killed was the alleged Boko Haram EXTREME NORD Region Commander Alhaji GANA

Elements of 42 BIM escorted approximately 1,250 former Boko Haram abductees in 5 trucks to MAROUA, DIAMERE Department, EXTREME NORD Region

04 December

2 vigilantes were arrested in FOTOKOL, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region, for allegedly supplying phones and fuel to Boko Haram

04 December

The US Embassy warned that extremists might be planning to attack hotels favoured by Westerners

05 December

3 x female PBSIED detonated on KOULFOUA Island, LAC Region, CHAD killing 27 people and wounding up to 130. The first 2 PBSIEDs detonated in the centre of the market, the third detonated as people fled

Gunmen attacked MJNTF positions in the vicinity of WAMBACHE, MORA Arrondissement, MAYO SAVA Department, around 6.00pm, but were defeated with no friendly losses
