Situation Friendly Forces

08 November

A suspected Boko Haram member Chindo BELLO was detained by Aviation Security at NNAMDI AZIKIWE International Airport, ABUJA, FCT, as he attempted to board an Aero Contractors flight to LAGOS, LAGOS State

Lt Gen BURATAI and Theatre Commander Maj Gen Yushau ABUBAKAR visited several units in BORNO State. First 113Bn at GUBIO, GUBIO LGA and then 118 Bn as they advanced towards DAMASAK, ABADAM LGA, leaving them at KARETO, 13 km from their objective and then joined 23 Bde in JAKANA, KAGA LGA, BORNO State as they conducted a night clearance operation in the JAKANA-GUBIO axis

Elements of 25 Bde conducted clearance and presence operations in the vicinity of BALE, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO state along BITTA and DAMBOA axis capturing grinding machines, Dane guns, and bicycles

The BORNO State Police Commissioner Aderemi John OPADOKUN launched a monthly Police-Vigilante Youth Groups and Civil Society Organisations Monthly Meeting, where the Vigilante Youth Vanguard (CJTF) requested they be issued with firearms. The request was declined

09 November

Elements of 23 Bde captured Ishaku WARDIFEN, a Camerounian Boko Haram suspect (number 22 on the list of 100 Boko Haram suspect) at a checkpoint at MAIHA, MAIHA, LGA, ADAMAWA State.

10 November

Elements of 115 Bn, 7 Bde, MNJTF conducted a clearance patrol between BAGA, KUKAWA LGA and GUDUMBALI, GUZAMALA LGA, BORNO State capturing 5 enemy suspects and an alleged enemy Amirs ‘wife’ and 4 children

Elements of 5 Bde cleared enemy camps in the vicinity of KERENOWA, MARTE LGA, BORNO State and conducted IED clearance operations along the NEW MARTE-DOGONGIDA-KERENOWA Road

11 November

Friendly forces engaged Gunmen in a firefight in the vicinity of NGUMNARI, MONGUNO LGA, BORNO State round 3.30pm near MONGUNO Town, killing 2 enemy and capturing 1 x AK 47, 1 x Dane gun and several motorcycles captured

Elements of 26 Bde cleared enemy camps in TRIPKWOPTA and GIDAN GACHI, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State, one of their vehicles detonated an IED in the vicinity of BALAZALLA DURE, with no reported casualties. They also captured a truck carrying IEDs at UYOLE which was destroyed in a controlled detonation

Elements of 31 Artillery Bde cleared a cattle rustlers camp in BAGABAGA Village, RAFI LGA, NIGER State within the ALAWA Forest capturing 70 x 7.62mm rounds, 19 x shotgun cartridges, 1 x locally made pistol, 1 x empty AK 47 magazine, 3 x mobile phones, 1 x motorcycle and 100 cows and 92 sheep. The cattle rustlers escaped.

12 November

Friendly forces cleared GUDUMBALI, GUZAMALA LGA, BORNO State killing 10 enemy

Elements of 112 Bn and 7 Div Garrison conducted a fighting patrol to BUSHESHE, MAFA LGA, BORNO State near DIKWA and engaged enemy forces, capturing 2 x Buffalo APCs, 2 x Toyota Hiluxes, 2 x AAA guns, 3 x 81mm mortar tubes, 101 x 60mm mortar bombs, 20 x boxes of 12.7mm, 21 x RPG rounds, unspecified large amount of 23mm rounds, and unspecified large amount of 7.62mm ammunition

Elements of 25 Bde cleared enemy camps in the vicinity of NWALEMER, MALLEMIRI and BALE, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State

Elements of 28 Bde supported by the NAF conducted a clearance operation between BITTA and DAMBOA, DAMBOA LGA clearing 3 enemy camps at MODUPE 1, MODUPE 2 and MODUPE 3. Rescuing 61 people.

Elements of 28 Bde engaged enemy forces in the vicinity of LANGARAN FULANI, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State killing 4 enemy, capturing 1 and 2 x dane guns

The Army has published the Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct for internal security and counter insurgency operations

NAF Alphajets, F-7Ni and Mi 24 have conducted 6 air strikes on enemy positions in the vicinity of DAMASAK, MOBBAR LGA, BORNO State

118 Bn cleared 2 enemy checkpoints as it advanced towards DAMASAK

Security forces detained 14 Boko Haram suspects in KATARKO, GUJBA LGA, YOBE State

13 November

Soldiers arrested a Boko Haram suspect Mallam Ali LOKOJA around 10.20am in GEIDAM, GEIDAM LGA, BORNO State

The DSS arrested a suspected terrorist Danladi ABDULLAHI in MODUGANARI Area, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State. ABDULLAHI is alleged to be Nos 26 on the recent list of 100 Boko Haram suspects

Soldiers arrested a suspected Boko Haram spy Madu ABUBAKAR in AWANDARI Village, GUZAMALA LGA, BORNO State near GUDUMBALI, the suspect was shot and killed while trying to escape during interrogation.

Friendly forces destroyed suspected enemy food dumps in the KUKAWA-GUDUMBALI axis

Friendly forces attacked GASARWA, NGANZAI LGA, between MAIDUGURI and MONGUNO killing 18 enemy and capturing 2 x AK 47, 1 x GPMG, 1 x RPG7 round, 1 x box of 7.62mm and an unspecified amount of 7.62mm link

President BUHARI visited troops in YOLA, ADAMAWA State awarding ‘Purple Heart’ medals to 3 soldiers and Lafiya Dole Operational medals to 4 others. The President also visited MAKHIO IDP Camp in YOLA

Soldiers arrested 5 suspected Boko Haram members and rescued 9 women and 6 children in GIDAN BLOCK Village, ASKIRA UBA LGA, BORNO State, 6km from YAMTEKE

08 November

Gunmen attacked people and buildings in WUKARI, TARABA State around 1.00am after the State Governors Election Petition Tribunal decided against the incumbent Governor, killing 7 and wounding 15 and burning some properties, the attack was apparently in relation to the Election Tribunal annulling the victory of the last gubernatorial elections

10 November

Gunmen launched rockets (type unknown) towards MAIDUGURI, BORNO State from BULABULIN BALGAWE AJIRI around 10.00pm, but were defeated by a friendly counter attack supported by artillery

13 November

Gunmen attacked Army positions in KARDEWA Village, xxx LGA, BORNO state but were defeated losing 25 motorcycles, 40 enemy flags, 10 grinding machines and an IED factory I the counter attack

08 November

Gunmen attacked KERAWA, KOLOFATA Arrondissement, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region but were repelled by Camerounian forces

2 x PBSIEDS attacked NGOUBOUA, LAC Region, CHAD killing 3 people and wounding 4

09 November

2 x female PBSIEDs detonated near a LA GRANDE MOSQUE GONI MOUSTAPHA, FOTOKOL, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region. 1 detonated killing 3 other people and wounding 20, whilst the other was shot dead by security forces

CHAD declared a state of emergency in LAC Region, restricting freedom of movement

10 November

Gunmen attacked MAVARE, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region 2km from KERAWA, abducting an unknown number of people. The Deputy Director of Assessment and Technical Assistance of the UN Counter Terrorism Committee Hassan BAAGE estimated that Boko Harams estimated budget was $10m per annum.

Camerounian security forces reportedly killed an enemy Amir known as ‘Lieutenant’

Gunmen attacked KOSSA, MORA Arrondissement, MAYO SAVA department, EXTREME NORD Region killing the son of the towns Lamido

11 November

Gunmen attacked BOSSO, DIFFA Region, NIGER Republic killing 5 civilians but were repelled by Nigerien forces who reportedly killed 20 enemy

Nigerien security forces confiscated 620 packets of unspecified explosives, 41 detonators and 310 electrical cables (or maybe det cord?) from a bus in AGADEZ, AGADEZ Region, NIGER Republic. In a separate operation in the Region 6 suspected bandits were arrested with an unspecified number/ type of firearms, a rocket (type unspecified) and military style uniforms

12 November

Gunmen attacked AMCHIDE, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region where they were engaged by BIR deploying from LIMANI

Gunmen attacked ASHIGASHIYA, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region at night killing 4 children and abducting 8 girls and stealing 2 trucks of foodstuffs

The ICC Office of the Prosecutor released a Preliminary Examination Report on Nigeria identifying 8 possible cases of crimes against humanity under Articles 7 and 8 by both the government and insurgents in the North East. Boko Haram was accused of indiscriminate attacks on civilians, illegal detentions, attacking protected facilities (i.e. schools), use of chid soldiers, deliberate attacks on females and attacks on places of worship. The Nigerian security forces were accused of illegal detention, torture and extrajudicial killings and attacks on civilians as well as the CJTF recruiting child soldiers.

A German military advisory team led by Col. Thomas BRILLISAUER visited Defence Headquarters, ABUJA, FCT to discuss new ways to assist NIGERIA’s fight against insurgency

13 November

14 November

Gunmen attacked CHARLES, EXTREME NORD Region but were repelled by Camerounian forces losing 5 enemy killed
