Situation Friendly Forces

30 August

The DSS states it has arrested the 9 man IED cell responsible for attacks in POTISKUM, KANO, ZARIA and JOS. The cell was led by Usman SHUAIBU (aka MONEY) who was arrested on 8th of July in GOMBE State allegedly en route to BAUCHI State, he claimed to deployed from SAMBISA Forest with his team, have financed with N500,000.00 given to him by his Amir; Isa ALI. He also claimed to have taken part in the attack on GWOZA in 2014. Ahmed MOHAMMED (aka ABUBAKAR), is alleged to be the IED maker assisted by Adamu ABDULLAHI (aka BABA), ISSA conducted recces on the JOS targets, Mustaqa YUSUF (aka Mohammed SANNI/ MUDTAKA), stated that the attacks were ordered by an individual named Aliyu GOMBE based in the SAMBISA Forest 4 became PBSIEDs. One named SULE and his wives (number unknown) attacked JOS.

11 other suspects were detained including Ibrahim MUSA, Bakura MODU arrested 20 July in KARA, ISHERI BERGER, IKEJA LGA, LAGOS State, Mustapha Ali JAMNERI arrested 24 July in GOWON Estate, EGBEDA, ALIMOSHO LGA, LAGOS State, Abuyi SHERIFF arrested 7 August in EBUTTE METTA, LAGOS MAINLAND LGA, LAGOS State, Babagana ALI and Babagana KOLOYE arrested 7 August in ERIC MOORE, BODE THOMAS Street, SURULERE LGA, LAGOS State, Abba Modu SAGMA arrested 9 August in IJORA BADIYA, APAPA LGA, LAGOS State, Grema ABUBAKAR and TIJANI BAGUDU arrested 10 August in AMUKOKO, IJORA BADIYA, APAPA LGA, LAGOS State, Baba ALHAJI and Abbas IBRAHIM arrested 10 August at ALABA International Market, ALABA, OJO LGA, LAGOS State, Ibrahim AUDU arrested on 19 August at NEW ARTISAN Market ENUGU, ENUGU State, Ibrahim HARUNA from KANAWA Village, SUMAILA LGA, KANO State arrested 21 August in KWOMI Village, KWAMI LGA, GOMBE State, Mallam Ali MOHAMMODU arrested 22 August at IBRAHIM TAIWO Road, FAGGA LGA, KANO State, Adam Wakil Abdul JILBE arrested 23 August in ATUASHE Estate, GBAGADA, KOSOFE LGA, LAGOS State and Mohammed USMAN

31 August

Elements of 1 Bde engaged cattle rustlers 30 km from TURETA Town, in GIDAN KARE Forest, TURETA LGA, SOKOTO State killing several and recovering 84 x cows, 6 x camels and several hundred goat and sheep.

At least 4 suspected Boko Haram ‘wives’ surrendered to the CJTF in ASKIA, ASKIRA UBA LGA, BORNO State after they claimed to have been abandoned by their ‘husbands’.

A militant Terwase AKWAZA (aka GHANA) has surrendered himself and 84 weapons to the BENUE State Government. A total of 135 rifles and 770 rounds of ammunition have been collected and the amnesty extended to the end of September according the BENUE State Governors Special Advisor on Security Col Edwin JANDO (retired)

Elements of 7 Div cleared GAMBORU NGALA, NGALA LGA, BORNO State

 

The General Courts Martial of Brig Gen EA RANSOME KUTI sitting in Army HQ Garrison, ABUJA, FCT, heard testimony from Maj Gen MY IBRAHIM former GOC 7 Div. who stated that the 3 MBTs based at BAGA deployed in 1998 and were unserviceable and the artillery pieces lacked certain critical parts

Former NSA, Col Sambo DASUKI (retired) plead not guilty to charges of illegal weapon possession at Federal High Court, ABUJA, FCT and was granted bail on his own recognisance and his passport returned. The case was adjourned to 26 October

Op Safe Haven have declared Aminu HANBANE wanted on suspicion of cattle rustling, arms dealing and planning attacks in BARKIN LADI and RIYOM LGA, PLATEAU State in relation to the BISICHI incident.

8 more Boko Haram wives surrendered in MUSSA District, ASKIRA UBA LGA, BORNO State around 4.00pm, claiming that their ‘husbands’ abandoned them in NGULDE Village, DAMBOA LGA. They were handed over to the military who moved them to MUBI, ADAMAWA State

02 September

Nigerian forces met Chadian and Camerounian troops on the EL BEID Bridge between GAMBORU NGALA and FOTOKOL

NAF Alphajets attacked targets in the vicinity of NGOSHE and PULKA LGA, BORNO State in support of ground forces, destroying several solar panels

NEMA officials state that 9,500 refugees have returned through the SAHUDA Border Post, ADAMAWA State

03 September

The Army has pardoned and reinstated 3,032 soldiers dismissed in summary courts martials

A suspected PBSIED was detained at a Motor Park in BAUCHI, BAUCHI State around 6.00am

04 September

7 Div has banned the use of horses in BORNO State

2 x suspected female PBSIEDs were arrested in KIRAWA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State by vigilantes and local residents shortly after Juma’at prayers

05 September

Elements of 313 Air Defence Regiment, 31 Artillery Bde, have detained 3 suspected cattle rustlers in SARKIN PAWA, MUNYA LGA, NIGER STATE. Also recovered were 97 cows and 41 sheep. The suspects and livestock were handed over to the police

Elements of 7 Div destroyed over 2,000 cartons of dried fish and meat reportedly worth N50m captured from Boko Haram. The items had allegedly been stolen or illegally taxed from fishermen and traders in BORNO State

30 August

Gunmen attacked HAMBAGDA Village, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State around 2.00pm killing 7 and wounding 5, with small arms at the mosque

Gunmen came into the market in NGUBALA, MAGUMERI LGA, BORNO State and purchased foodstuffs. There were no reported casualties

31 August

Gunmen mounted on horses attacked KOLORI, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State with small arms and IEDs around 5.30pm, killing 18 people and then stealing foodstuffs. They then attacked BA’ANA Village, DAMBOA LGA around 6.45pm, killing 7 people and stealing food and livestock

Unconfirmed reports state that large numbers of gunmen mounted on horses were sighted in between DAMBOA and KAGA LGA’s near GONERI Village, GUJBA LGA, YOBE State

Approximately 100 gunmen mounted on horses attacked FATAWE Village, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State near GWOZA around 10.30am, tying them up and slitting the throats of dozens of villages

Suspected Fulani gunmen attacked a group on their way to market in MAI KATAKO, BOKKOS LGA, PLATEAU State with small arms and bladed weapons, murdering 5 people and injuring a 3 month old baby

Suspected Fulani gunmen killed 4 youths at KURA FALLS, BARKIN LADI LGA, PLATEAU State

Approximately 25 gunmen disguised as policemen attacked the BENUE State High Court, MAKURDI, BENUE State around 4.00am, beating up the security guard and stealing or destroying documents related to the 2 election tribunals being held there. They also stole the generator

Gunmen attacked MAINARI, KONDUGA LGA AROUND 7.30pm with small arms killing 5 people and wounding 6. Friendly forces aided by vigilantes defeated the attackers in an hour long firefight

Gunmen attacked NGUBALA, MAGUMERI LGA, BORNO State forcibly recruiting young men after an enforced ‘preaching session’

Gunmen attacked KIRAWA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State with small arms and petrol bombs killing 53 people and wounding over 100

A male PBSIED detonated his device hidden in a wheelbarrow in the market in LIMANKARA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State, around midday killing up to 30 people

30 August

11 Boko Haram suspected members were arrested in BODO, MAKARY Arrondissement, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region, CAMEROUN following information from the populace.

The Camerounian Red Cross reports that 7,744 Camerounians had been displaced from their homes to KOUSSERI, EXTREME NORD Region, CAMEROUN.

NIGERIA based Camerounian journalist Simon ATEBA released by Camerounian authorities

The US is to provide a grant of N176m ($801,000.00) to assist IDPs in JIMETA and YOLA, ADAMAWA State via the American University of NIGERIA, YOLA who provide education services to IDPs. The US Charges d’Affaires Maria BREWER stated that this brought US AIDs contribution to $901,000 in total

2 x female PBSIEDs detonated in KERAWA, KOLOFATA Arrondissement, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region. The first detonated around 9.45am in the market killing 31 and wounding 36, the second detonated in the vicinity of the BIR Infirmary killing 7 people and wounding 105

Gunmen attacked MASTAFARI Village, MORA Arrondissement, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region around 2.00am killing 4 shepherds

The CDS Gen Gabriel OLONISAKIN is attending an AU CDS and Ministers of Defence meeting in BAMAKO, MALI as part of the African Peace and Security Architecture in th Sahel- Saharan Region to enhance the multinational approach to fighting terrorism
