Situation Friendly Forces

16 August

Vigilantes and hunters attacked enemy camps in MADAGALI, MICHIKA and MUBI, MADAGALI LGA, ADAMAWA State reportedly killing up to 100 enemy, capturing 17 and freeing 280 women and children, 3 hunters were reportedly injured in the exchange

23 Armoured Bde has banned the use of motorcycles in all LGAs of ADAMAWA State

17 August

President BUHARI stated that 10,000 more policemen were to be recruited and that a Federal Anti Terrorism Multi Agency Task Force is to be established, whilst speaking at a National Security Summit organised by the NPF in ABUJA, FCT

500 IDPs from ADAMAWA, BORNO and YOBE have begun a training programme run by the UNDP Livelihood Support Scheme training them in computer studies, leatherworks, GSM repair, hair dressing, tailoring, knitting, catering and decoration and shoe making

TARABA State SEMA states that at least 25,000 people have been displaced by the communal clashes in the state

An Army Review Panel sitting in KADUNA, KADUNA State has screened and reinstated 102 officers and 2,500 Other Ranks court martialled or facing court martials in relation to Op Zaman Lafiya. The affected persons have begun training at the Nigeria Army Training Centre, KONTANGORA, NIGER State

Maj Gen Yusha’u Mahmood ABUBAKAR (ex Armoured Corps) has been named as commander Op Lafiya Dole, controlling 3 and 7 Div. He is the first Corps Commander in Army history

18 August

Elements of 26 Task Force Bde engaged a convoy of 7 pick up trucks and several motorcycles fleeing air strikes in the vicinity of GWOZA, GWOZA LGA, BORNO State, destroying the vehicles, capturing 1 vehicle and 1 motorcycle, 2 x AK 47 and a large quantity of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and 12.7mm ammunition

Vigilantes shot dead a Police Inspector in mufti on a motorcycle who refused to stop at a checkpoint in GANYE, GANYE LGA, ADAMAWA State in defiance of the state wide ban

The YOLA Electricity Distribution Company has restored power to MUBI, GOMBI and GARKIDA in ADAMAWA State.

19 August

The Commandant NIGERIA Army School of Military Engineering, MAKURDI, BENUE State, Maj Gen Bamidele OGUNKALE, apologised to the BENUE State Governor for the unruly behaviour of soldiers in NORTH BANK District of MAKURDI, on 15 August

Director Legal Services, NIGERIA Army Brig Gen Yusuf SHALANGWA stated that the soldiers who maltreated a civilian in MARARABA, NASARAWA State had been identified

DHQ has disputed assertions that 150 villagers died in KUKUWA GARI stating that soldiers and vigilantes ambushed the enemy between KUKUWATASHI and KUKUWA GARI killing 4 gunmen and losing 1 vigilante, capturing 2 x AK 47 an 2 x motorcycles

Security forces detained 2 suspected Boko Haram members in GEIDAM, GEIDAM LGA, YOBE State and captured 2 pick up trucks

The CAS AVM Sadiq ABUBAKAR has ordered the NAF to establish a Level 2 hospital will be set up for IDPs in DALORI Camp, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State and a borehole constructed

20 August

ADAMAWA State University, MUBI, MUBI LGA reopened after closing in October 2014 when the town was over run by Boko Haram killing 11 staff and 3 students. University authorities state that 95% of their students have resumed class and they have hired 80 vigilantes to protect the campus.

NEMA states that 22 suspected Boko Haram members were identified amongst the 12,000 Nigerian refugees returning from CAMEROUN

21 August

Elements of 7 Bde cleared GUDUMBALI Town, GUZAMALA LGA, BORNO State

Elements of 5 Bde, detonated IEDs in the vicinity of OLD MARTE and KERENOA Junction, MARTE LGA, BORNO State losing 2 killed and 2 wounded and a MOWAG APC destroyed

The NAF states it has increased ISR missions in the vicinity off DIKWA, GAMBORU NGALA, GUDUMBALI, ZARI, DAMASAK, GUBIO and MAGUMERI. Air strikes by Mi24 in the vicinity of TOKOMBERI and in SAMBISA Forest southwest of TOKOMBERI, destroyed enemy positions, air strikes were also conducted against enemy positions in GAZADURE Market, whilst Alphajets on armed recce patrols attacked enemy positions in GULUMBALI and Agustas observed and disrupted enemy smuggling activities.

22 August

The NAF has destroyed 2 trailers in the vicinity of BELEL, MAIHA LGA, BORNO State. The vehicles were spotted by Agusta Helicopters on armed recce along the NIGERIA- CAMEROUN border, which were then attacked and destroyed by MI 24 coordinated from a King Air 350i recce aircraft, one of ; the Mi24s was hit by ground fire, damaging a rotorblade. The aircraft successfully returned to base, has been repaired and returned to duty.

President BUHARI approved a 13 man committee led by AVM J.O.N. ODE (retired) to examine previous defence contracts from 2007 to date such as the $466.5m to arm 6 x SuperPumas, N3b to supply 6 x K38 patrol boats to PICOMSS, 200m Euros lost at PICOMSS and the purchase of 2 x executive jets, $9.3m seized in SOUTH AFRICA, $1b loan for weapons purchases, N7b military budget and irregularities in the rehabilitation of the Military Reference Hospital, KADUNA

The Governors of NIGER, KADUNA KATSINA, ZAMFARA, KANO, SOKOTO and KEBBI States met to review the security operation in KAMUKU and KUYANBANA Forests against cattle rustlers and other criminal elements

13 August

Gunmen mounted on motorcycles and a car attacked KUKUWA GARI, GUJBA LGA, YOBE STATE, allegedly causing fleeing residents to jump into a River leading to approximately 150 deaths

16 August

An audio recording purportedly from ‘Abubakar SHEKAU’ denied allegations by CHAD’s Idriss DEBY that he was dead or had been replaced. The message was addressed to Daesh leader Abubakar AL BAGHDADI

17 August

Gunmen mounted on trucks and motorcycles attacked AWONORI, MOBBAR LGA, BORNO State around 7.00am killing 7 people and stealing foodstuffs and livestock

18 August

Fighting in BISICHI Village, FORON District, BARKIN LADI LGA, PLATEAU State resulted in the death of 10 Birom (according to the Birom community leaders) or 7 Fulani (according to the Fulani Community leaders). Several Birom were injured and taken to PLATEAU Specialist Hospital and claim 30 houses were destroyed

20 August

Gunmen attacked IDPs camped in the vicinity of DIKWA, DIKWA LGA, BORNO State killing 5

21 August

Gunmen attacked KORTSE, GASSOL LGA, TARABA State killing 7 people as they were heading to their rice farm with small arms and bladed weapons. Survivors claimed the attackers came from the house of an individual named as Alhaji NYAKO

Gunmen attacked the advance team of Gen BURATAI’s convoy carrying as he travelled to GAMBORU NGALA, NGALA LGA from MAIDUGURI via 112 Bn at MAFA, MAFA LGA and DIKWA in the vicinity of FALJARI Village, DIKWA LGA between MAFA and DIKWA, killing 5 and capturing 5 for the loss of 1 friendly killed and 2 wounded. 4 suspected Boko Haram members were detained with a herd of cattle. An elderly herdsman claimed they had been compelled to take them along.

22 August

Suspected Fulani gunmen ambushed travellers heading to JOS, in the vicinity of BARKIN LADI, BARKIN LADI LGA, PLATEAU State killing 2 men

17 August

Gunmen attacked WAMBECHE MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region wounding a Camerounian soldier and a vigilante for the loss of 3 attackers

CHAD has charged 10 suspects including Nigerian Mahamat MUSTAPHA (aka Bana FANAYE) in N’DJAMENA, with murder using explosives, illegal weapons possession and criminal conspiracy for their alleged involvement in the June 2015 bombing

Gunmen attacked MAFOUROU and BEDA Villages, MAKARY Arrondissement, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region, CAMEROUN killing one person and burning several houses in MAFOUROU, displacing he population of AFADE and BLAME

20 August

The EU Instrument Contributing to Stability and Peace has budgeted 4.5m Euros for the second phase of their peace building and conflict prevention project in PLATEAU and KADUNA State. This phase is expected to last for 18 months and partners with 3 local NGOs, working in KAURA LGA, KADUNA State and RIYOM LGA, PLATEAU State

21 August

Military commanders from MJNTF states concluded a 2 day meeting in N’DJAMENA, CHAD in which the 3 sectors at MORA, GAMBORU and BAGA were identified and officers sent to check facilities

22 August

Gunmen attacked NGOUMOULDI, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region, CAMEROUN killing 4 people
