09 August

The Nigerian Red Cross Society has trained at least 20 people from CHIBOK, DAMBOA, JERE, KONDUGA, BAMA, GWOZA and MAIDUGURI in psychological support after a 3 day course in ABUJA, FCT.

President BUHARI’s spokesman states the President will launch a thorough investigation into previous weapon contracts

10 August

NEMA has begun the evacuation of 12,000 returnee refugees from CAMEROUN from MUBI, MUBI NORTH LGA, ADAMAWA State to 3 camps in YOLA (NYSC Camp, MALKOHI and FOFURE), majority of the returnees state they are from NGALA LGA

The former GOC 81 Div Maj Gen Tamunomeibi DIBI stated that ‘many’ Boko Haram suspects had been arrested in LAGOS State the previous 18 months whilst handing over to his replacement Maj Gen Isidore EDET including a suspected female PBSIED who allegedly detonated near the This Day LAGOS office, and a PBSIED who attempted to attack MURTALA MOHAMMED Airport, LAGOS

11 August

The Nigeria Army stated that the soldiers photographed maltreating a suspected armed robber in MARARRABA, NASARAWA State would face disciplinary action

Media reports state that the NIGERIA Army has received a batch of 500 Beryl M762 assault rifles from Fabryka Broni Lucznik, POLAND as part of a $500,000.00 contract for 500 7.62mm assault rifles and 10 x Mini Beryl M556 5.56 rifles.

12 August

The NAF has launched a ‘See something, Say Something’ anti terrorist public awareness campaign

6 suspected PBSIEDs were detained in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State, by CJTF members. They were allegedly masquerading as patent medicine sellers and were en route to attack the Monday Market

13 August

PLATEAU State Police Command stated it had recovered 42 of the 500 cows stolen from KADUNUNG Village, MANGU LGA as well as 40 sheep

The PLATEAU State Government imposed a 6.00pm to 6.00am curfew on RIYOM and BARKIN LADI LGAs

President BUHARI swore in the new Service chiefs and gave them a 3 month deadline to end the conflict

7 Div. medical staff have started providing free medical care to IDP’s in KONDUGA LGA. 7 Div Director of Medical Services, Brig Gen Ikechukwu OKEKE, stated they had treated 750 people thus far

KADUNA State Government states that the security forces operating in the KAMUKU and KUYANBANA Forests in BIRNIN GWARI LGA, recovered 1,232 cows, 295 sheep and 14 donkeys

14 August

The NSA, the IGP and Service Chiefs visited MAIDUGURI, BORNO State for an assessment of the military effort

The NAF states it has deployed more platforms to Op Lafiya Dole such as the F 7Ni, Mi 24/ 35, Agusta 109, Super Puma and ATR 42. It is not clear where the new aircraft are to be based

The BENUE and TARABA State governments exchanged people who had been abducted from either state during communal clashes in MAKURDI, BENUE State. 3 people from TARABA were exchanged with 2 from BENUE

15 August

The NAF launched air strikes with F7s, Attack Helicopters and Alphajets against enemy positions in SAMBISA Forest after weeks of reconnaissance by ISTAR platform the ATR 42

The IGP decorated 9 policemen for gallantry and posthumously promoted 3 policemen killed by a PBSIED, offering their children university scholarships, whilst visiting YOBE State Polive Command for an assessment of the security situation

15 August

Nigerian SF supported by air strikes engaged enemy forces in the vicinity of KALA BALGE, KALE BALGE LGA, BORNO State, reportedly inflicting 24 casualties

The NSA, Service Chiefs and IGP visited DAMATURU, YOBE State inspecting Army HQ Logistics Base and 3 Div Tac HQ

Gunmen attacked BISICH Village, BARKIN LADI LGA, PLATEAU State, killing an elderly man

08 August

Cult groups clashed in WELFARE Quarters, MAKURDI, BENUE State resulting in 3 dead and 6 wounded, including local vigilantes who tried to intervene. One group fled to a bar along MAKURDI OTURKPO Road but were pursued by their adversaries who opened fire killing one and wounding a foreigner

09 August

Gunmen attacked the premises of Duwan, an explosives storage company near MISTA ALI, BASSA LGA, PLATEAU State, killing 2 private security guards. NPF Anti Bomb Squad personnel also on duty at the site repelled the attackers

Gunmen attacked a vehicle in the vicinity of BARKIN LADI, BARKIN LADI LGA, PLATEAU State between HEIPANG and KASSA, shot and their bodies mutilated

Gunmen ambushed motorists in a VW Golf travelling from DAMBOA to BIU, in the vicinity of NWAJURKO Village near SABON GARI, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State around 9.30am killing 1 person, wounding 3 and abducting 2 passengers

10 August

3 gunmen mounted on a motorcycle killed 3 people and injured several others in KENDEV Village (near ZAKI BIAM), UKUM LGA, BENUE State. The gunmen attacked the house of a politician (Douglas BERGHA, APC) killing him and wounding his 12 year old son, and shot and killed a motorcyclist and wounded his passenger before stealing his machine and escaping

Gunmen attacked KADUNUNG, MANGU LGA, PLATEAU State killing 2 people and stealing approximately 500 cattle

11 August

Gunmen attacked BALE MAMMAN Village, JERE LGA, BORNO State (5 km south east of MAIDUGURI), around 6.30pm killing 4 men and 2 children people, abducting 4 women and stealing livestock and foodstuffs before being repelled by troops supported by artillery

Gunmen attacked KAYAMULA Village (5km from MAIDUGURI), JERE LGA, BORNO State

4 civilians were killed by an IED in a booby trapped building in SUWARASA, BAMA LGA, BORNO State

Gunmen attacked BISICH Village, BARKIN LADI LGA, PLATEAU State, wounding 6 people including an NAF officer attached to STF Sector 7. The attackers reportedly infiltrated the previous night and hid in a maize field, from where they attacked. They were repelled by STF troops

Gunmen attacked SHUWARI, JERE LGA, BORNO State

A disagreement over the location of grinding machines in KADUNUNG, MANGU LGA, PLATEAU State with a man from DORONG Village, BARKIN LADI LGA, led to a fight and the killing of his 2 sons

An IED contained in a Herbicide sprayer detonated in JEBO Cattle Market, SABON GARI, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State around 1.30pm killing 50 people and wounding 51.

3 letters reportedly written in Hausa by Boko Haram, were found in SABON GARI, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State at the scene of a previous attack, threatening residents with more attacks if they did not join them

Gunmen ambushed cattle herders in the vicinity of KASSA Village, BARKIN LADI LGA, PLATEAU State killing 3 of them.

12 August

Gunmen attacked LAHOU Village (near NGUDE), ASKIRA UBA LGA, BORNO State around 4.00pm killing several people before being defeated by Vigilantes who killed 17 and captured 2 vehicles

13 August

Gunmen reportedly killed 2 people in GANA ROPP BARKIN LADI LGA and KURA FALLS, KURA LGA, PLATEAU State. Crops were reportedly destroyed in GASHISH, BARKIN LADI LGA AND JOL, RIYOM LGA

15 August

A male PBSIED detonated at the entrance to the Market in RUMIRGO, ASKIRA UBA LGA, BORNO State around 11.00am as he was being searched by a vigilante killing 4 and wounding 7.

Camerounian Police rescued 17 Nigerians, 19 Camerounians without papers and 35 Camerounians with papers from an Islamic School in NGAOUNDERE, ADAMAOUA Region, where they were allegedly chained, fed every other day and allowed to bath once in 3 months for periods ranging from 8 months to 4 years. The Proprietor, Mallam DANLATTI was arrested

10 August

Camerounian media reports that 3 employees of Thales have been arrested by the Nigerian security services for producing over 60,000 fake Camerounian ID cards and residence permits fake ID cards.

11 August

Chadian President Idriss DEBY stated that Boko Haram is decapitated and scattered and that the insurgency would be defeated by the end of the year, he claimed ‘SHEKAU’ had been replaced by a person named Mahamat DAOUD

Gunmen mounted on horses attacked BIM positions in ASHIGASHIYA, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region, CAMEROUN, around 2.30am killing 1 Camerounian soldier and wounding 2 others for 10 attackers killed in the 5 hour firefight, with the enemy repelled by a BIR counter attack around 4.00am

12 August

Gunmen mounted on horses and bicycles attacked BLAME, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region, killing 8 people and burning 2 buildings before being repulsed by Camerounian forces who killed 12 attackers losing 2 Camerounian soldiers including one to friendly fire.

The US Federal District Court, BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, NEW YORK State, USA sentenced a Nigerian Lawal BABAFEMI (35 years old) to 22 years in prison for providing material support to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. BABAFEMI (who used the nom de plume AYATOLLAH MUSTAPHA) had been extradited from NIGERIA in 2013 after being arrested for 2 terror related offences. He wrote articles for AQAP magazine ‘Inspire’, appeared in photographs, wrote rap lyrics and reportedly received $9,000.00 from deceased AQAP leader Anwar AL AWLAKI to recruit other English speaking Nigerians. BABAFEMI plead guilty and stated he had renounced al Qaeda and terrorism.

14 August

The Camerounian Minister of Defence stated that 2,450 soldiers will be contributed to the MNJTF, with Brig Gen Valere NKA as Deputy Commander and Gen Bo DOPE as Commander First Sector with HQ in MORA, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region

Media reports state that the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency has authorised since 2014, Excess Defence Articles to Nigeria, such as 6 x Cougar JERRV MRAPs (EOD/ counter IED), 10 x Caiman Base, 6 x Caiman Cat 1, 2 x MaxxPro MRAP Ambulance, 6 x MaxxPro Plus, 2 x MaxxPro MRAP Recovery Vehicles, and miscellaneous logistics and communication equipment such as water purification plants, clothing and personal equipment, power distribution equipment, tents, medical equipment and other sundry items. The latter do not appear to have been optioned.

Approximately 20 gunmen mounted in motor canoes attacked MOURDAS and KAFOURAM Villages, HILE ALIFA District, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region killing 4 villagers and burning several houses

Gunmen attacked AFADE, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, burning down several buildings. Elements of Cameroun’s 41eme BIM counterattacked at night reportedly clearing the town

Gunmen ambushed policemen patrolling between MORA and DOUBLE, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region, wounding one policeman and capturing a motorcycle

15 August
