Situation Friendly Forces

13 June

Nigerian forces attacked enemy positions in the vicinity of BAYAWARI and SASAWA, TARMUWA LGA, YOBE State pushing them towards SASAWA Forest

15 June

President BUHARI stated that he would visit CAMEROUN on his return to NIGERIA from the AU Summit, JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA. He also stated that the main support needed is in terms of intelligence and logistics.

16 June

The Inspector General of Police Solomon ARASE stated that the 27 MOPOL trainees missing after the August 2014 attack on GWOZA were not yet declared dead.

Vigilantes patrolling the MONGUNO MARTE Road, in the vicinity of MONGUNO Town, MONGUNO LGA, BORNO State recovered a plastic bag containing unknown material and took it to a vigilante position in the BAKASSI Area of BULABULIN Ward, MONGUNO where it detonated around 5.30pm killing up to 71 and wounding up to 40 people (vigilantes and curious onlookers). The explosion was caused by a bag allegedly containing RPGs which was found by vigilantes along the roadside in the vicinity of MARTE and brought to the town for examination.

The AIG Zone 10 Bala HASSAN and stated the Zone and the NIGER State Police command have formed an anti-kidnapping squad in order to deal with the crime in SOKOTO, KEBBI, ZAMFARA and NIGER States.

17 June

Elements of the STF killed 2 x female protestors at a roadblock mounted between HAIPANG Village and BARKIN LADI Town, BARKIN LADI LGA, KADUNA State

The Nigerian Army states that the Military Command and Control Centre in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State will open in 21 days (08 July?)

Army mechanised patrols killed up to 12 gunmen in the vicinity of NJABA, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State

18 June

The BORNO State Governor announced a review of the curfew from 9.30pm to 6.00am as opposed to 7.00pm to 6.00am to mark the commencement of Ramadan

DHQ states that the Chadian airstrikes were ‘probably’ not on Nigerian territory. Gen OLUKOLADE stated that NAF ISTAR assets had identified a target named Camp 6 in the vicinity of BOSSO, NIGER Republic

19 June

27 Bde held a medals parade in DAMATURU, YOBE State awarding the Nigerian Army Purple Heart to those wounded or killed in action as well as the Op Zaman Lafiya Operational Medal for those who have served more than 6 months in theatre

DHQ states that the Army is investigating Amnesty International’s allegations of war crimes

The Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and IDPs Hadiza Sani KANGIWA, stated that there are approximately 200,000 Nigeria refugees in CHAD, CAMEROUN and NIGER Republic and 1, 491, 706 IDPs in NE NIGERIA

The Army Chief of Administration Maj Gen Adamu ABUBAKAR stated that 2 Joint Investigation Teams set up by DHQ had established prima facie cases against 350 out of 504 Boko Haram suspects have been recommended for prosecution in NE NIGERIA

Situation Enemy Forces

13 June

Gunmen attached ROPP,BARKIN LADI LGA, PLATEAU State reportedly defeating the resident garrison and killing up to 22 people

14 June

An ethnic clash between the Kufai and Kulishi in BILLIRI, KALTUNGO LGA, GOMBE State over a disputed piece of land resulted in the death if two people and 1 wounded

Gunmen attacked BABANGIDA Town, TARMUWA LGA, YOBE State, around 7.00am burning several buildings including the police station and some mobile phone masts but were defeated by elements of 7 Div, 1 soldier and 1 vigilante was killed and 5 wounded. The insurgents stole food, petrol, diesel and other items as they retreated. A large number of enemy were reported killed, 10 rifles captured, unspecified amount and type of ammunition and hand grenades

15 June

Gunmen stole several dozen cattle in BIRNIN GWARI LGA, KADUNA State and killed 3 people in KAMPANIN DOKA, 3 people in GAYAM and 2 people in HAYIN LASAN Village.

A male PBSIED exploded at a vigilante office near LARA Filling Station on GASHUWA Road, IGWANDA, DAUWRA Ward, POTISKUM, YOBE State around 12.30pm, killing up to 8 people including the vigilante commander Alhaji ADO and wounding 4. The bomber was allegedly detained on suspicion of stealing computer equipment and brought back to the Vigilante HQ for questioning. A few minutes later a PBSIED was identified and chased by a crowd, until he detonated at a drinking area in MA SHAYA, DAURWA Ward, killing up to 2 people.

An IED detonated along DAMBOA-BIU Road, in the vicinity of ALAGARNO, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State against a convoy of military protecting PHCN staff, killing at least 3 soldiers, 1 x MOPOL and 3 others. 3 soldiers were badly injured

A PBSIED attacked a vigilante checkpoint in the vicinity of BALE Village, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State.

17 June

Approximately 30 suspected nomadic militants attacked SONDI Village, WUKARI LGA, TARABA State with bladed weapons killing 8 farmers on their way to the farm.

18 June

Gunmen attacked two people in DAMIRI Village, BARKIN GWARI LGA, KADUNA State and injured 3 PHCN employees

Gunmen attacked KATSAK Village, JEMA’A LGA, KADUNA State killing 9 people around 9.00pm, they also attacked UNGWAN DANBORNO, BIRNIN GWARI LGA killing 5 people. 15 others were injured in both incidents

Situation External Forces

12 June

CHAD has begun a 2 month exercise to recruit 10,000 more people into the ANT

15 June

A PBSIED (possibly 2) mounted on a motorcycle detonated at the Public Security Directorate in N’DJAMENA, CHAD, killing 7 people, followed by 2 PBSIEDs on motorcycles who detonated at the Police Training School killing up to 28 people and wounding 101 in total in the attacks.

Gunmen attacked DABANGA and NGASSAMA, LOGONE ET CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region killing 3 soldiers, stealing food and livestock and taking several hostages.

Approximately 11 gunmen attacked 4 trailers of food for the Camerounian security forces in EXTREME NORD Region, after one of the vehicles got stuck in the mud. 2 Camerounian soldiers were killed and several injured when their vehicle had an accident whilst pursuing the attackers.

16 June

Chadian forces arrested 2 men who they state are the main suspects in organising the N’DJAMENA IED attacks. The Chadian police and Army patrolled N’DJAMENA, CHAD, sealing off the Presidential Palace and Police Headquarters and setting up checkpoints across the city

The US stated that it will give $5m to the MJNTF. US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Linda THOMAS-GREENFIELD stated the US was in talks with the Nigerian government as to how to further assist.

17 June

James DUDDRIDGE the UK AFRICA Minister stated the UK was willing to provide further technical support, military training and increased assistance with intelligence sharing.

2 x VBIEDs have been discovered by police in N’DJAMENA, CHAD contained in a Toyota V8 and Landcruiser following a confession by 2 suspects, one of the vehicles reportedly belonged to a policeman who has also been detained

Gunmen mounted in motorcycles and vehicles attacked LAMINA Village GUESKEROU, DIFFA Department, AGADEZ Prefecture, NIGER Republic with small arms killing 28 people, looting buildings and burning them down. They then attacked NGOUMAWA Villages killing at least 10 people.

18 June

10 Camerounians (2 women and 8 children) abducted by Boko Haram escaped/ were released in LWADAF, MAYO TSANAGA Department, EXTREME NORD Region, CAMEROUN

The Chadian Prime Minister Kalzeube Pahimi DEUBET states that CHAD has banned the burqa and niqab, stating it can be used as camouflage by militants. The NGUELI Bridge leading to KOUSSERI, CAMEROUN and other land bridges have also been closed.

Chadian forces claimed to have conducted airstrikes against 6 Boko Haram camps in WURGE and WURGE MAMADOU, NGALA LGA, BORNO State, BAGA SOLA Island and YAU ABADAM, DIFFA Region, NIGER Republic, using 2 x mercenary piloted MiG 29s.

19 June

The Chadian Prime Minister states that beggars and undocumented foreigners would be rounded up and detained in BAGA SOLA, near Lake CHAD and that boating and fishing would be banned in the River CHARI as it flows into Lake CHAD

The US State Department issued a condemnation of the attacks in NIGER Republic

The EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos STYLIANIDES stated the EU is to provide 21m Euros to assist people affected by the Boko Haram insurgency. 12.5m Euros will be used to provide humanitarian aid in NIGERIA and 8.5m Euros to support refugees in NIGER, CHAD and CAMEROUN

20 June

A man suspected of being a Boko Haram member was detained in a refugee camp in MINAWAONU, MAYO TSANAGA Department. HE claims to have escaped the sect and is currently being held in MOKOLO

Amnesty International has demanded the release of 80 children detained after a raid on a Qur’anic school months ago. They are being held in MAROUA, EXTREME NORD Region
