Nigerian forces captured a suspected Boko Haram member with an RPG launcher in the vicinity of MAIDUGURI, BORNO State

03 June

Maj Gen Tukur Yusuf BURATAI has been appointed Commander of the MJNTF in N’DJAMENA, CHAD. The MJNTF is organised into 3 sectors at BAGA and 2 other locations.

President BUHARI visited NIAMEY, NIGER Republic to meet Mahamadou ISSOUFOU to discuss the Boko Haram campaign, the return of Nigerian refugees, human trafficking and small arms and light weapons proliferation

BORNO State Coordinator of IDP Camps and BORNO State Emergency Management Agency stated Alhaj Grema TERAB stated that a special camp with a counselling centre for 300 pregnant IDPs will be set up at the LEGACY Housing Estate along MAIDUGURI International Airport Road

25 soldiers (21 x Privates, 2 x Corporals and 2 x Lance Corporals) sentenced to death for mutiny have filed a suit against the Nigeria Army and the COAS Lt Gen MINIMAH challenging their sentence. Represented by FALANA and FALANA Chambers, the suit avers that the refusal of the Army to make public the findings of the General Court Martial illegal and asked the court to determine whether it was legal to deprive them of visit from family or lawyers

04 June

President BUHARI visited CHAD, meeting President Idriss DEBY. President BUHARI praised Chadians for their support and both leaders pledged to intensify cooperation.

Gunmen killed 3 people at the entrance to JIMETA Main Market YOLA, ADAMAWA State

Gunmen attacked and killed a bank manager opposite YOLA International Airport, YOLA, ADAMAWA State and stole his car. They were pursued and caught as they by a military detachment along GOMBE-BIU Road as they headed in the direction of MAIDUGURI. The NPF Spokesman Yoila NEMUEL stated the suspects had led the police to their hideout and had led to a significant breakthrough in the fight against Boko Haram

An IED reportedly concealed in a bag of charcoal detonated in MORU MORU Market GAMBORU District, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State around 1.30pm killing 1 person and wounding 4.

01 June

Gunmen attacked traders in JIMETA Main Market, YOLA, ADAMAWA State killing 2 people and wounding 2 others

02 June

A PBSIED detonated in KASUWAN SHANU Cattle Market, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State around 3.30pm killing at least 21 people and wounding 24

Boko Haram has released a 10 minute video in the name of ‘The Army of the Caliphate in West Africa’. The masked speaker claims to be in SAMBISA Forest, and claims Boko Haram control of DIKWA, DAMASAK, GAMBORU etc. The first part has the speaker holding up what he claims are Nigerian Army ID cards. The latter part shows what appears to be combat footage of a Boko Haram attack, followed by footage of Boko Haram murdering wounded security personnel and slitting the throat of a wounded civilian, it ends with what is claimed to be wreckage of an aircraft. ‘SHEKAU’ is noticeably absent.

Gunmen attacked MAIDUGURI, BORNO State with small arms but were defeated by elements of 7 Div with air support

Gunmen attacked the outskirts of MAIDUGURI, BORNO State with indirect fire, damage and casualties are unknown

03 June

An IED detonated at a military VCP at a mechanic workshop opposite Sector One Military Base and NNPC Mega Station along BAGA Road killing up to 7 people and wounding 8

An IED detonated in the vicinity of the BAGA Road Fish Market, opposite the IBRAHIM TAIWO Divisional Police Station near MAIKORE Filling Station, BOLORI, MAIDUGURI, BORNO State around 5.15pm kiln up to 14 people and wounding up to 19 others. The device was reportedly hidden in a bag and either remote or time detonated.

Suspected Nomadic gunmen attacked MATOKUN Village, PATIGI LGA, KWARA State killing 3 people, a MOPOL unit has deployed to the area

04 June

A VBIED contained in a Volkswagen Sharon detonated at a Vehicle Checkpoint in SHAGARI Low Cost Housing Estate along MAIDUGURI- MONGNO Road, near MAIMALARI Cantonment in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State around 6.00pm killing up to 8 people including at least 5 soldiers

Gunmen attacked SHETIMARI, KAGA LGA, BORNO State with small arms, IEDs RPGs, but were defeated by elements of 7 Div. The attack was preceded by 2 x PBSIEDs, friendly forces captured 12 x rifles, 1 x machine gun (types unknown)

2 x male PBSIED detonated in near Zenith Bank, GAMBO JIMETA Main Market, JIMETA, YOLA, ADAMAWA State around 7.45pm killing up to 32 people and wounding up to 40. Local hospitals put out an appeal for blood donations. The bombers reportedly pretended to fight drawing a crowd before detonating their devices.

06 June

A suspected female PBSIED detonated at a VCP along BAGA- MONGUNO Road killing 3 people and wounding 4

An IED detonated at TUNGUSHE Village, KONDUGA LGA, BORNO State around 9.30am wounding 2 people.

Suspected nomadic gunmen beheaded 2 Tarok farmers in the vicinity of BULULU and YIPLACK, KANAM LGA, PLATEAU State (date of incident unclear).

Gunmen ambushed an STF patrol in the vicinity of NGAR Village, BARKIN LADI LGA, PLATEAU State killing 1 soldier and wounding another

25 May

The Camerounian Minister of Defence Edgard Mebe NGO’O appointed Col Myondo Menyengue ALFRED Commander Air Base 101, Col Kameni ALPHONSE as commander 4RG, Col Prothe ENYOUMA commander 4e Battalion and 4RMIA.

02 June

The Nigerien President Mahamadou ISSOUFOU stated that the MJNTF will be operational in a few weeks

3 Camerounian soldiers from 11e Bn based in BERTOUA, EST Region robbed the payroll vehicle they were escorting of CWE a Chinese company constructing the LOM PANGAR Dam, in the vicinity of MANSA Village, near BELABO Town, EXTREME NORD Region, and fled in a pick up truck. The truck, their weapons and body armour were later discovered at DJOUFO College NKOLBIKON Village

The Inspector General of the Camerounian Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation Ryan Abrams EGBE state that there were 75,000 Nigerian refugees and 82,000 IDPs in LOGONE ET CHARI, MAYO SAVA and MAYO TSANAGA Departments of EXTREME NORD Region, whilst the region had a deficit of 132,000 tonnes of cereals.

03 June

Amnesty International released a report alleging war crimes such as illegal detention, extra judicial killings, torture, ill treatment by the Nigerian military. The Nigerian military rejected the report and accused Amnesty International of ‘blackmail’

04 June

The US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Linda THOMAS-GREENFIELD told a US Congressional hearing that a team of advisors would deploy to NIGERIA within a few weeks to train the military

05 June

The head of the UN Human Rights Office Zeid Ra’ad AL HUSSEIN called on President BUHARI to investigate crimes by Boko Haram and allegations against the military
