07 May

2,000 returnees from NIGER arrived at a rehabilitation centre in KALANBAINA, SOKOTO State

10 May

The YOBE SEMA is partnering with UNICEF and the state Universal Education Board to set up tent classrooms, with the intention to enrol 2,600 children in basic education classes. The children were also vaccinated against polio and other communicable diseases

11 May

NEMA states that 11,449 Nigerian refugees have been received at GEIDAM from YOBE State of whom 7,000 had been transported onto their states of origin. The refugees were reportedly indigenes of BORNO, TARABA, JIGAWA, KANO, BENUE, BAUCHI, SOKOTO, NIGER, KEBBI, ZAMFARA, KATSINA, YOBE, GOMBE, ADAMAWA, NASARAWA, IMO and DELTA States

The Chairman of the Presidential Initiative for the North East (PINE) Prof Soji ADELAJA has ordered the release of additional relief materials to victims of the insurgency in the North East at the end of a meeting of the Special Committee on the Resettlement and Rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons. The type and quantity of relief materials was not specified.

12 May

Nigerian forces attacked an enemy camp in the vicinity of MAFA, MAFA LGA, BORNO State reportedly inflicting heavy casualties and liberating several abductees.

Chadian President Idris DEBY ITNO paid a courtesy visit to President JONATHAN in ABUJA to discuss security issues and congratulate the President on his election conduct (apparently without irony), he stated that there was a lack of cooperation between the Chadian and Nigerian Army. . He also visited President elect Gen Muhammadu BUHARI (retired), discussing Boko Haram, cross border issues and infrastructure reconstruction.

14 May

7 Div has imposed a 24 hour curfew on MAIDUGURI, BORNO State

KANO State Government stated it had evacuated 500 IDP’s to a camp at DAWAKIN KUDU from GEIDAM, YOBE State. The IDPs received a donation of 600 bags of maize and each got N2,500 transport and feeding allowance

15 May

The BORNO State government has amended the curfew from 12.00pm to 5.00pm midday

ZAMFARA State Emergency Management Agency has evacuated 21 NIGER Republic returnees from the KALAMBAINA SOKOTO rehabilitation camp. The returnees were part of a batch of 88 from GEIDAM

Vigilantes state they have capture a Boko Haram commander in DUMSA, BORNO State

16 May

DHQ states that Nigerian forces have destroyed 10 Boko Haram camps in SAMBISA Forest, capturing several armoured vehicles and AAA guns. Heavy fighting was reported around DURE, 4 were destroyed in the vicinity of IZA while 3 recently stablished camps were also destroyed. 1 soldier was killed and 2 wounded by a buried IED. Retreating enemy were ambushed by Nigerian forces in the vicinity of BITTA and in KISKERU, NIGER Republic

Gunmen attacked farmers in GIDAN BUSA, KACHIA LGA, KADUNA State, killing 3 and wounding one other. The attackers are suspected to be thieves hiding in nearby forests

11 May

A mob attacked and killed 2 Fulani men in KURMIN JAMA’A, KACHIA LGA, KADUNA State for reasons unknown

13 May

Several hundred gunmen mounted in pickup trucks and motorcycles attacked MAIDUGURI, BORNO State with small arms, RPGs and PBSIEDs around 6.45pm. The enemy initially attacked BA’ALE Village, JERE LGA killing 29 people, wounding 30 and burning 25 properties. They then attacked  LADI KAYAMLA Village, KONDUGA LGA killing 30 people and infiltrated MAIDUGURI through a cashew plantation in, reportedly initiating the attack with a female PBSIED, infiltrating as far as FORI they were defeated by elements of 21 Armoured Brigade from GIWA Barracks. Fighting died down by 9.00pm but restarted around 9.30pm and continued until the next morning. 4 soldiers were reportedly killed in the fighting. 3 vigilantes and 10 civilians were reportedly killed and 12 wounded by up to 3 female PBSIEDs who allegedly pretended to be civilian evacuees/ escapees, they then approached a checkpoint and detonated their devices. The enemy retreated back to SAMBISA Forest via ALAU DAM Village, reportedly murdering 27 peaceful civilians in the town. 35 enemy were reported killed in the fighting

14 May

Gunmen attacked KOJITI, MADAGALI LGA, ADAMAWA State killing 7 people

Gunmen attacked GUR, BIU LGA, BORNO State around 12.00 midnight killing 6 people, wounding several others and burning down the village

Gunmen attacked BALE GALTIMARI and BALE SHUWARI, JERE LGA, BORNO State killing 28 people, burning houses and stealing cattle

15 May

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked TSE AGBULU, TSE ATAKPA and TSE ABICHI Villages, SENGEV District, GWER WEST LGA, BENUE State around 3.00pm with small arms and bladed weapons killing 8 people and displacing several hundred to NAKA the LGA headquarters. Many were robbed of mobile phones and money.

Gunmen attacked MULE, JERE LGA, BORNO State in the afternoon, casualties were not ascertained

Gunmen reportedly occupied MARTE, MARTE LGA, BORNO State. Troops had left the town undefended during the advance on SAMBISA Forest

Gunmen abducted Adamu USMAN, the ADAMAWA House of Assembly Rep for TOUNGO from his house in KOFARE Ward, YOLA, ADAMAWA State

16 May

A suspected female PBSIED detonated at a Market next to BAYAN TASHA Motor Park in DAMATURU, YOBE State around 10.40am killing 9 people and wounding 30 others. The bearer was reported to appear approximately 12 years

Gunmen attacked SABONGARI Town, MADAGALI LGA, ADAMAWA State around 10.00pm killing 1 man, wounding 13 people and abducting 6 women. They looted foodstuffs and burnt property. Villagers reportedly fled into the hills.

Gunmen attacked AJIYA WAGGA Village, MADAGALI LGA, ADAMAWA State killing 12 people

Gunmen ambushed a Camerounian patrol in KRAWA MAFFA, EXTREME NORD Region, killing 2 soldiers and injuring two others

07 May

The French Air Force has deployed a third MQ 9A Reaper UAV to NIAEY, NIGER as part of Op Barkhane. Operated by 1/33 Belfort Sqn, Op Barkhane has 2 x Harfang and 2 x Reapers already in service. They are all unarmed.

10 May

Gunmen ambushed a truck around 5.00pm killing the driver, stealing the truck and abducting the drivers’ assistant in the vicinity of TCHAKAMARI, between WAZA and DOUBLE, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region

11 May

The US Ambassador James ENTWISTLE stated that the US would assist in the provision of psycho-social support to the 275 women and children whilst on a courtesy visit to the Governor of ADAMAWA State, Bala James NGILARI

16 May

Camerounian media reports a heavy concentration of enemy forces in FIMA, EXTREME NORD Region, 7 km from FOTOKOL, LOGONE ET CHARI Department
