20 April

President Elect Gen. Muhammadu BUHARI (rtd) stated that his incoming government would continue military cooperation with CAMEROUN, NIGER and CHAD, begin oil exploration in the CHAD Basin and tackle the receding Lake CHAD shoreline, whilst speaking to a delegation from BORNO State.

22 April

Nigerian forces supported by aircraft have begun operations to clear SAMBISA Forest, BORNO State. Chadian and Camerounian forces are reportedly concentrated in MORA, MAYO SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region, CAMEROUN.

23 April

The BORNO State has set up 10 temporary Primary Schools in IDP Camps in MAIDUGURI, BORNO State.

The High Commissioner to CAMEROUN HE Hadiza MUSTAPHA met Camerounian Minister of External Affairs Pierre Moukoko MBONJO to discuss issues of concern between the two countries and emphasise that the defeat of Boko Haram is the priority of the incoming government.

24 April

100 children who had been orphaned or displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency have been enrolled into the KANO State Special Education Programme. Some of the children are so distressed and disorientated they no longer know their names much less where they are from.

25 April

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked TSE UOSU, TSE GBUDU And UMENGER Villages in MBADWEM, GUMA LGA, BENUE State killing up to 28 people and displacing local inhabitants to UDEJ and DAUDA Villages, GUMA LGA and local Fulanis moving to MAKURDI. The attackers reportedly crossed over from NASARAWA State

An explosion took place at 3 Armoured Div HQ, MAXWELL KHOBE Cantonment, RUKUBA, BASSA LGA, PLATEAU State around 9.45am The incident occurred when expired explosives being transported for controlled detonation prematurely detonated.

DHQ has denied media reports that Nigerian forces withdrew from SAMBISA Forest to BAMA, stating that forces have maintained their assault reinforced by further counter IED equipment.

The NPF has arrested 6 people in KATSINA ALA LGA, BENUE State on suspicion of being part of a gang of cattle thieves and kidnappers who stole over 500 cows in TACHA Village, YAYA WARD, KATSINA ALA LGA. 21 cows were recovered from the cattle market and Hausa Quarters.

Several hundred decomposing corpses have been discovered in KARETO, DUTSE, GASHIGAR and DAMASAK, MOBBAR LGA, BORNO State by workers cleaning up and fumigating the town

18 April

Light skinned gunmen mounted in 7 x Toyota Landcruisers with 12.7mm HMGs were spotted in the vicinity of SIGAL, KALA BALGE LGA, BORNO State near the border with LOGONE ET CHARI Department, CAMEROUN

19 April

A military vehicle detonated a suspected IED in KAUYEN KUROS Village the vicinity of BAGA, KUKAWA LGA, BORNO State, injuring 6 soldiers and a vigilante whilst escorting 1,200 returnees

20 April

An IED detonated near the Shia SAKAFA Mosque in DOGO TEBO, POTISKUM, YOBE State around 4.30pm as the male bearer was jumping over a gutter injuring him (who later died of his wounds) and 8 bystanders

21 April

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked AYIASE Village, TAKUM LGA, TARABA STATE killing 3 people and burning the village before moving onto TSE GBAUN and GAZA Villages, DONGA LGA killing 3 and 4 people respectively and burning the villages. A runoff election is due to hold on Saturday 25 April

Gunmen ambushed a military convoy in the vicinity on BAGA, with small arms and RPGs killing 2 and wounding 6 soldiers and 3 vigilantes, when another armoured vehicle became trapped in mud, the enemy was defeated after a prolonged firefight losing 22 killed.

Gunmen mounted in vehicles attacked friendly positions ALAGARNO, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State with small arms, crew served AAA weapons and RPGs but were repelled with significant enemy casualties, including a reported senior commander ‘Abu MOJAHID’

23 April

A vehicle detonated an explosive device killing 3 vigilantes during operations to clear SAMBISA Forest.

Approximately 2,000 gunmen attacked KIRENOWA and MARTE, MARTE LGA, BORNO State with small arms, IEDs and armoured vehicles.

Media reports state that gunmen are reportedly withdrawing to YAMTAKE, TABE and JANGORO, DAMBOA LGA, BORNO State

Gunmen mounted in a Toyota Corolla attacked a police patrol vehicle in the vicinity of the town Motor Park in KATSINA ALA, KATSINA ALA LGA, BENUE State killing an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and a cattle herder and injuring 3 other policemen. The Murdered ASP Baba IBRAHIM was head of the Cattle Rustling Task Force.

Photographs have been released through Daesh linked social media claiming to be from Boko Haram and renaming the group Wilayat al Sudan a Gharbi (Islamic State in West Africa). The photographs with Daesh logos include one with 16 fighters with AK47s and an RPG, 11 of the fighters have webbing, all are dressed in traditional attire with headdress. Another shows4 fighters in a pickup truck with 5-6 others around. The vehicle does not appear to have any crew served weapons mounted. Another photograph shows 2 fighters with what appears to be an improvised mortar with another wearing a Daesh headband in the foreground

Armed robbers robbed and killed 2 Fulani in GUMA LGA, BENUE State.

24 April

Gunmen disguised as soldiers ambushed a group of male returnees on their way to their villages at BULTARAM Village, GUJBA LGA, YOBE State murdering 21 of them

Media reports state that troops have withdrawn from some positions in the vicinity of MARTE, claiming they were out of ammunition.

25 April

Thugs went on a rampage in ILORIN, KWARA State reportedly in retaliation for an NDLEA raid on a marijuana den in IDI APE BARUBA Area of ILORIN on Friday 24 April. The disturbances led to 3 dead and an unspecified number of wounded as well as millions of Naira in property damage

Suspected nomadic gunmen attacked a village in GUMA LGA, BENUE State killing 10 people

Gunmen attacked MAFA, MAFA LGA, BORNO State around 6.00pm reportedly killing 4 vigilantes and 2 soldiers before being repelled by the security forces.

Gunmen attacked SHONONG Village, RIYOM LGA, PLATEAU State killing 4 people

19 April


UNHCR donated agricultural implements to 10,000 IDPs in BENUE State such as herbicides, high yielding maize and rice seeds, mosquito nets and other things

20 April

The US Ambassador James ENTWISTLE stated that the US would partner with the NPF for training, whilst on a courtesy call to IGP Suleiman ABBA

French Defence Minister Jean Yves LE DRIAN has suggested that a military liaison committee be set up between CHAD, CAMEROUN, NIGERIA and NIGER and offered FRANCE’s support.

21 April

A French Operational Training Detachment of 8 Officers, NCS and other ranks will be providing counter IED training to 60 members of the Camerounian forces in GAROUA, BENOUE Department, NORD Region, CAMEROUN running from 21 April to 15 May. The course is part of the CAMEROUN/ FRANCE Defence Partnership Framework Agreement of 21 May 2009

22 April

Chadian forces state they have repatriated 43 Chadian children (aged from 12 +) who reportedly escaped from a training camp during fighting in DAMASAK, MOBBAR LGA, BORNO State.

23 April

Ambassador Francoise COLLET (Head of the EU Delegation to CAMEROUN) reaffirmed the EU’s support for CAMEROUN in the fight against Boko Haram in a meeting with Camerounian Minister of External Affairs Pierre Moukoko MBONJO

25 April

Gunmen mounted in approximately 10 x motorised canoes attacked KARAMGA Island, DIFFA Department, DIFFA Region, NIGER, allegedly killing 80 people including 48 soldiers with up to 36 missing. The village was burnt down

24 April

The EU has announced a grant of $325m to support children affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in BORNO State. The 1 year support will provide psychological aid to 45,000 children

The French Government is to fund a Camerounian Red Cross Programme with 400, 000 Euros (216m CFA Francs) to provide access to quality care for women and children under five in EXTREME NORD Region
