Situation Friendly Forces

11 August

The 500 IDPs trapped on top of the MANDARA Mountains since 06 August were able to effect an escape to MADAGALI LGA, ADAMAWA State. Amongst the escapees were the Emir of GWOZA Mohammed TINTA and the District Head Hakimi IBRAHIM

13 August

NEMA stated that 400,000 people have been internally displaced in North Eastern Nigeria from January to the end of July 2014 in BORNO (183, 031), YOBE (30,233) and ADAMAWA (147, 198) States.

The acting Inspector General of Police Suleiman ABBA has ordered the establishment of Tactical Operation Points in KANO, JIGAWA, SOKOTO, KEBBI, ZAMFARA, BAUCHI, GOMBE and TARABA States, to be manned by policemen trained in tactical operation and counter terrorism in order to prevent thee illegal movement of small arms an explosive material

Defence HQ states that Nigerian forces have infiltrated SAMBISA Forest

The NPF states it has intercepted a convoy of 3 x 18 seater buses containing 51 youth moving from MAIDUGURI, BORNO State to ABUJA at BABALE, PLATEAU State at 3.00am. the youths were allegedly led by a woman and gave contradictory statements as to their movements.

14 August

Troops advancing from BAMA to GWOZA were ambushed along the MAIDUGURI-BAMA—GWOZA Road in the vicinity of PULKA and KIRAWA, BORNO State killing approximately 50 insurgents and losing 30 soldiers. Insurgents also attacked a military outpost at T Junction. Air strikes on enemy positions are ongoing.

15 August

The Emir of ARGUNGU Alhaji Mohammed Ismaila MERA is to head the Fulani/ Farmers Reconciliation Committee

16 August

Elements of the MNJTF cleared an insurgents camp in the vicinity of BUDURAM, KUKAWA LGA, BORNO State killing 17 insurgents in a dawn attack. The insurgents were allegedly massing for another attack on DORON BAGA which lies south of the village. 20 abductees were rescued

10 August

Gunmen attacked JALIN Village, JOS EAST LGA, PLATEAU State around 9.00pm killing 2 people. Police have been deployed to the village

Gunmen attacked DORON BAGA, KUKAWA LGA, BORNO State, killing 26 people, wounding 5 and kidnapping approximately 97 boys and young men and approximately 20 women. The abductees were taken on motorboats towards CHAD via LAKE CHAD. Villagers have fled to IDP centres in YOBE State and BORNO State.

11 August

US President OBAMA authorised $10m in military aid to FRANCE to assist Op. Barkhane with airlift and aerial refuelling in their operations in MALI, NIGER and CHAD.

14 August

CAMEROUN has reorganised its military, adding another Military Region for EXTREME NORD Region alone with HQ at MAROUA. The Gendamarie will also follow the new orbat, with ADAMAOUA and NORD Regions remaining in 3RMIA

Gunmen attacked BONDERIE, MAYO—SAVA Department, EXTREME NORD Region, CAMEROUN around 4.00am killing a civilian, 2 soldiers and wounding an officer. 7 policemen were reported missing and a vehicle missing. 3 attackers were killed

16 August

Chadian troops reportedly intercepted a convoy of buses transporting 6 gunmen and a number abductees, rescuing 65 men and 22 women, however 30 were still being held by the insurgents.
