Situation Friendly Forces

05 August

The National Union of Road Transport Workers has introduced thorough screening of passengers and luggage at all motor parks in YOBE State.

06 August

The NPF paraded a captured Boko Haram leader Zakari Mohammed ARDO for the press in ABUJA to belay rumours he had escaped. ARDO dubbed Boko Harams chief butcher spoke in Kanuri stated he was 30 years old from DARAZO LGA, BAUCHI State and claimed he had only slaughtered five people as part of a 5 man cell. The police accuse him of 7 murders.

07 August

A task force based on 25 Tank Battalion supported by artillery and air strikes recaptured DAMBOA. Fighting is still reported in and around the town

Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Adeshola AMOSUN has stated that the NAF is currently updating its tactics in the campaign against Boko Haram.

The Joint Task Force, KANO has arrested Ibrahim IBRAHIM in DALA LGA, KANO State on suspicion of being the trainer of female suicide bombers. Approximately 16 females were reportedly being trained for suicide operations

08 August

Health officials in BORNO State have said there are 325 cases of cholera amongst IDPs in BIU of whom 11 have died.

10 August

A Battle group consisting of 213 Bn, 234 Bn and Task Force Mike, NIGERIA Army (based in MUBI, ADAMAWA State), supported by 3 Alphajets advanced on GWOZA from MADAGALI, the assault commanded by Lt Col AGWU (234 Bn) was reportedly unsuccessful and were compelled to withdraw, with own forces losing 5 killed and one captured. An Armoured vehicle was also reportedly captured9 August: approximately 500 IDPs from GWOZA have been trapped on the MANDARA Mountains for 4 days without food, shelter or sustenance. Individuals have been phoning MAIDUGURI for assistance

The Local Government Chairman MADAGALI LGA, ADAMAWA State James WATHARDA stated that over 7,000 IDPs from GWOZA had arrived since the attack on the town

The North East Zonal Coordinator of NEMA Mallam Mohammed KANAR states that over 10,000 people had fled from GWOZA and its environs to ADAMAWA State and CAMEROUN

06 August

Gunmen attacked GARKIDA Village, HAWUL LGA, BORNO State with small arms and IEDs and used IEDs to attack the bridge there

Gunmen mounted in fighting vehicles and motorcycles attacked GWOZA, BORNO State with small arms and IEDS in a dawn attack and burning the local government secretariat, the police station and other buildings. The gunmen stole several vehicles from motor parks which they took to the MANDARA Mountains and are reportedly in control of the town, the new Emir whereabouts are unclear. The gunmen reportedly separated male and females and killed the males, over a 100 dead are reported

07 August

Insurgents have allegedly occupied BUNI YADI, GUJBA LGA, YOBE State and taken control of one end of the KATARKO Bridge. Insurgents are reportedly openly moving in BUNI GARI, GONIRI GULANI in GUJBA LGQ

08 August

Suspected herdsmen attacked GIMI DOGARA Village, SANGA LGA, KADUNA State round 11.00pm killing 4 people by decapitation in and burning 15 houses, several hundred people have fled to NASARAWA State.

09 August

Gunmen attacked YELWAN SHENDAM, PLATEAU State killing 5 people and the theft of over 100 cattle.

05 August

The UN states that 650,000 Nigerians had been displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency

06 August

Gunmen mounted in pick ups and motorcycles attacked ZIGAGUE, LOGONE AND CHARI Department, EXTREME NORD Region, CAMEROUN around 2.00pm killing 10 people and abducting 2 sons of the chief of ZIGUE ZIGAGUE and the elder brotheerr of the Chief of WAZA and stealing a vehicle. As they withdrew they engaged Camerounian Army units killing a BIR soldier and 9 bus passengers.

CHAD has begun to move Nigerian refugees who fled from KOLIKOLIA, BORNO State from the uninhabited island of CHOUA in LAKE CHAD by helicopter to camps in NGOUBOUA

07 August

Gunmen mounted on motorcycles attacked BONDERI, EXTREME NORD Region, CAMEROUN killing 5 people

The kidnappers of the wife of the Camerounian Deputy Prime Minister Mme. ALI and the Lamido of KOLFATA and 7 others have reportedly requested a ransom of 1.8bn CFA Francs and the Deputy PM Amadou ALI’s resignation.

Gunmen crossed the border from NIGERIA and attacked DUBUWA Village, CHAD and killed 6 Nigerian IDPs who fled there from KIRENOWA Town, MARTE LGA, BORNO State 2 weeks ago

08 August

Gunmen attacked TCHAKARMARI Town, MAYO-SAVA Department, Extreme Nord Region killing 4 people including the town’s imam and stealing several motorcycles

US planes have allegedly spotted large groups of girls in remote locations that reportedly matched those highlighted by HUMINT gathered by Nigerian Forces. One group of approximately 70 was seen in an open field and 40 in another location

10 August

The President of SOMALIA Hassan SHEIKH stated that Boko Haram militants had recently come to SOMALIA to train with al Shabaab
